It really heavily depends on the implementation. Car Mechanic Simulator? Terrible. Gran Turismo 7? Really good. FH5 lands comfortably just below or right next to GT7 in my opinion.

What ?? 😵🤔
I can't stand TAA either, and to elaborate on @TheAdmiester's own distaste for it, it's the ghosting (likely the artifacting being referred to). AC Competizione has it, GT7 has a few minor visual things that bother that I didn't even know it used TAA, so add that to the list as well, but basically anything that uses TAA suffers from it — it's the Achilles heel.

What's ghosting, you ask?

It's very apparent in images that move across the screen quickly, but it's the main body of character (whether it be a person, car, animal, etc) leaving a trail of after images in its wake. It's a byproduct of the way TAA works by taking information from both past frames and the current frame to remove jaggies. There's anti-ghosting TAA which heavily minimizes it but at that point you may as well turn on driver level MF/MLAA.

Some games have worse ghosting than others, but yeah, that's the reason why I don't care for it.

I agree that it isn't perfect, but I'd rather have a bit of ghosting than aliasing. FH5's got TAA or bad MSAA, so I'd rather take the TAA. It's just preference really. I do think that TAA implementation as good as GT7 is far superior to no AA at all which is why it surprised me, but I guess I can see why some might feel otherwise, especially with 4K displays.

I do take back what I said about it being almost as good as GT7 though, after playing a bit longer the ghosting is more noticeable. Strangely it seems to be worst around a certain distance from the car.

Some are better than others, absolutely. I'd rather have jaggies, if for no other reason than something trailing behind my car reminds me of a ghost (pun thoroughly unintended!) and I hate ghosts. They're way too distracting and I wind up racing against myself and flubbing whatever I'm doing.

I realize now that my MF/MLAA comment was a bit tone deaf as that's a PC thing, but I'll stand by it specifically in that space. If you have an AMD card, turn on MLAA. If you have nVidia, turn on MFAA. The latter literally halves the resources of the in-game native MSAA rate. So 4x is equivalent to 2x, 8x equivalent to 4x, and 2x is basically 1x.

I don't remember how MLAA works, so I won't comment on that. :P

Definitely a stronger car pass than FH4, lots of new cars to the franchise which ultimately is what we should be wanting. They need to do the impossible and find a balance across a great many car fans who adore a great many different types of cars. I think they nailed it.

Makes me excited for FH6 to be honest.

Love the discussion on the car pass, have to say I agree with a lot of the points being made, especially around slight car variants being added, too many Audis/Ferraris/FD cars etc. Still better than FH4's car pass IMO.

Anyway, Series 10 in FH5 will be called Horizon X

The New Cars have the same icon of the Forza E Rival Laps, so new Electric Cars coming?
Rivian?

Is the TAA worth using? I had no problem with what the game was like before so I don't know to use it or not. Is it just a straight upgrade across the board or does it just help people on lower systems? I guess Ill try it myself and see of theres a difference.

All anti aliasing has pros and cons. TAA provides a softer image, and is generally a lot better at removing jaggies than FH5's MSAA. However, it can lead to trails behind moving objects. The softer image I don't mind, since it's closer to how things look to my eyes in real life anyway, but the ghosting is a bit distracting to me in FH5. It does say it's an "experimental feature", so maybe it'll be improved in the future.

If you never saw a problem without TAA, I'd recommend not using it. But you're free to give it a try anyway, maybe you'll still find that you prefer it.

I know theres pro's and cons but the collective excitement that the implementation of TAA to FH5 made me think it would be something really impressive, I tried it myself just now and I thought it made my performance worse and made the texture when wheels are turning poor and blurry. I'm perfectly happy staying with my regular settings. Like you say It is labelled as an "experimental" feature so Hopefully they can improve it in the future and I will try it again when they make progress with it.

In other doings My first wheelspin since the update worked out great!

For the Car Pack vehicles overall I'm happy. I've favoured the more quirky vehicles like the Gordini and VW Pickup, but that's just my style. I would've preferred more vehicles like these but I understand that the developers have to appeal to the majority primarily. I'm just hoping for more unusual cars in the future.🤞

If you go to the new Hot Wheels icon on the map (basically in the sea near where you would land off of the jungle airport danger sign), you can view this new trailer...

Well that basically confirms that the leaked map is real. The last few seconds shows it pretty well.

Hey all. I'm curious to see peoples opinion of the FH5 Car Pass now that it has finished. Obviously we still will get series reward cars for the foreseeable future like FH4 did, but the paid cars on top of the series rewards will stop on July 7th.

Do you think it was worth the money? If so why?

If not, why not? What would types of cars would you have liked to see more of? Older cars? Newer cars? Euro, JDM or American?
My assessment of the content of car pass.
Most excellent:
  • 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

Excellent:
  • 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8
  • 1992 Mazda 323GTR
  • 2005 MG X Power SV
  • 1982 Volkswagen Pickup LX

Good:
  • 1966 Jaguar XJ13
  • 1973 Lamborghini Espada 400 GT
  • 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler
  • 1968 Renault 8 Gordini
  • 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

Not bad:
  • 2010 Forsberg Racing Toyota Gumout 2JZ Camry Stock Car
  • 2006 Noble M400
  • 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

Not for me:
  • All Audi
  • All Ferrari
  • 2021 Aston Martin DBX
  • 2020 BMW M8 Competition

Go to the Festival playlist:
  • All variant models. (That includes some of my favorites like Mustang and XJ220, but in the interest of fairness I won't exclude them)
  • 2021 McLaren 620R

My personal impression was that there was too much bias toward Europe, Italy and Germany at that, and too many variant models.
I think I got my money's worth for what I paid for the car pass, in part because there were some great gems like Toronado and Magnum.
But apart from some of those great things, the rest of the content did not seem very appealing.
Back in FH4, I still looked forward to checking the car pass updates every week, but this time around, there were even weeks when I forgot to receive those cars when they were released.

The significant reduction of remastered content from the Xbox 360 era and convertible variants of existing models in this car pass may have been influenced by the negative feedback on such content during FH4.

Hopefully, there will be fewer of these variant cars in FH6 car pass than this time.

I'm happy with the Car Pass. It didn't strike me as any better or worse than previous car passes. There are a lot that I liked, and there are a lot that are just taking up space in my garage (but I'm a completionist so they're not going anywhere.) The ones I like I really like, so I think I got my money's worth.

Used 100 wheel spins and 60 SWS and got 3 out of 5 wheel spin exclusives Hot Wheels. They are rare spins so expect a lot of tries before one show up.

It will definitely take a lot of tries. I spun probably 10 or so wheelspins and maybe 5 supers and didn't see a single one of the new Hot Wheels cars. I did manage to fill in some gaps in my collection though so there's that.

I found myself using FT points and skill trees to unlock spins in addition to completing the other two PR stunts on the playlist I didn't need in order to get more spins, lol.

Car Pass was great for me, lots of quirky cars and many favorites.

Many many spins used so far but no Hot Wheels cars. I have resorted to the dark art of using Super 7 cards to get my promo pictures if the cars though.
I have a feeling that with the HW expansion and series 10 playlist we will be able to get those 5 cars without using wheel spins. But was curious since I have been saving WS since December I think. And this was a perfect opportunity. But man they are rare. Did some grinding today after spinning all my WS and haven't seen a single HW car since morning.

I think they have said the cars will be obtainable through playing as well in the DLC bud. There's an accolade for getting them all next series so surely they won't leave that down to chance.🤔🤔

I never have the patience to save my wheelspins, I'm like a kid as soon as I get them. Good effort on saving them for that long.
