I guess it's just not met expectation of what a 10AE should be, but I don't really know what that is; 25AE of Gran Turismo got you some in-game money and three free cars (one in a unique livery), and that seems... less. Did people expect it to have lots of 10AE clothing items and liveries, and some new-new cars - or more AE/FE versions of cars
When you put it that way, I guess many people were expecting an Expansion-level Anniversary. But with time and maybe resource limitations, they had to give what they can. And like you said, GT's 25th and even 15th weren't big either. Just special edition cars and extra money.

I retract my previous comment about the update now, it actually does look very promising if you look past the cars. And I'm more than likely going to keep Mixtape as my favorite station :)

At least - some fixes maybe? FXX-K Evo spoiler, SF90 Stradale active rear 'spoiler', M4 Competition missed roof...
FXX-K Evo has been on the bugs list since April, yet nothing happened since then. Quick look under animation folder on FXX-K Evo and SF90 Stradale revealed that the animation for the wing didn't even exist (yet). I didn't see it getting fixed since they didn't even bother fixing MK4 Supra shifting animation.

There is an element of foot-shooting there, but what returning cars would have special significant? The cover cars are all already there - I guess if they're doing a Viper AE they could have done Huracan, Centenario, and Senna AE (and AMG One/Bronco AE) maybe.
I agree with @-Fred-.
I don't dislike this lineup, but I don't see the point of adding it this time.

For example
FH1: 2006 Ford GTX1
FH2: 2013 Robby Gordon #7 Speed Energy Drink Stadium Super Truck
FH3: 2015 Ford #17 Xbox Racing Ford Falcon FG X
FH4: 1964 Austin FX4
I am sure there were other cars that impressed each title, such as
Of course, this list is just a selection of cars that I felt that way, and with race cars there are more licensing issues than with road cars...

Supra shifting animation is already listed under 'won't fix by design' while the other ones are still 'known bugs' so...

No foot-shooting, I think it's a fair point. Horizon games have been mostly remembered for their environment than their cars. The cars added here are not necessarily cars I feel most fans... wanted back. While the elephant in the room will obviously mention the Alfa/Fiat/Lancias that are tragically missing, I could have seen the fan-favorite Mercedes SLR coming back eventually given how they have both the Mercedes and McLaren licenses... Like an "hey, thanks for supporting us for 10 years, here's stuff you've actually been wanting" thingie instead of recycling cars no one really cares about.

I think a lot of the cars that only appeared in the first Horizon would have had special significance. Cars like the Mini John Cooper Works Coupe, the BMW M135i Hatchback, the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale (licensing issues notwithstanding), the Ford GTX1, the Ford Focus RS500, the Mazda MX-5 Superlight, the Ford Country Squire, and the Lamborghini Miura Concept just to name a few.

At least cars like the original Ferrari 599XX and Koenigsegg Agera are there so we don't have to worry about the series' dumb "latest or fastest" rule yet again, when it comes to an older variant of a particular model family series.

The most frustrating about this whole update is how much it harkens back to all these notable FH moments, and they're just SO CLOSE to getting it. FH1 rivals, starting with the Corrado, they know what made FH1 good and they must have noticed how none of those memorable elements were in FH4. What made those games so good is staring right at them but they just swerve past it to yoink some returning car models.

I'm somewhat happy to see we're getting the base Agera back. Usually not a fan of really fast cars, but I do like those Koenigseggs :P

I'll go against the grain and say that I'm personally excited for the update. Maybe it's because I didn't play the first three titles and that makes me interested in the story update, or maybe I just wasn't expecting anything more than that. A lot of info was leaked a week or two ago, and I didn't think there would be anything significantly more than that. Can't wait for a new radio station, the song selection in FH5 is hit or miss, so it'll be great to have something else to listen to.

Also try to look at this from a business point of view. Part of the team is working on the next expansion, part of it is probably in pre-production stage for the next game. I think there is just a small team working on the playlists and medium-sized additions to the game (theme of the month, new story chapters etc) while trying to allocate new (or old-new) cars between different series. Can the playlists be better? Yes. But they are still much better than extremely samey playlists in FH4. And the upcoming update will already have more than most of the previous ones: new radio and new story chapters.

I will agree that the absence of the new-to-forza cars is a bit disappointing, but it wouldn't blend well with the theme of the month. Still, giving us one brand-new modern car as a series reward would have worked, as if saying "Now that we have relived the history of the series, here is a taste of what the future holds". Still, I'm ok with what's offered, it's not like I don't have anything else to do in the game apart from the playlist.

Also, as others mentioned, compare this to the anniversaries of other games. Don't think many of them have been better than this. And no matter how hard we want something special for this occasion, a game anniversary can't get bigger than an expansion. And it was clear we are not getting an expansion this time.

If you look at this content wise, it's way better than like 90% of the series updates so far. It has a new radio station (15 songs), midnight battles (5 new routes), a new story, 22 rims and 90+ useful eventlab props. All of these are permanent and will have a lasting effect on the game. Cars are the only things that let down this update. 4 more returning cars would be great (Shelby 1000, ultimate Aero, gtx1, boss 302).

The Jesko is a bit slippery for me but I'm using more fast cars than in previous Horizons. Current faves for me are the Lotus Evija, AM Valhalla and Lambo Sesto Elemento. They pretty much replaced the Mosler for me as my go to S2s.

Either I'm not following or you misinterpreted.

PG has shot itself in the foot by including one previous cover car as a special "Anniversary Edition" but not done the same for any of the others or - as you say - brought back any other cars of special relevance from previous games.

It was great to see Ralph Fulton (Creative Director FH1-FH4) as a special guest on the Forza Horizon 5 Let's Go! livestream. Ralph is definitely very much aware of the fans still having Forza Horizon 1 as their favourite Forza Horizon game, although his favourite is Forza Horizon 3.

What is he actually doing at Playground games? Working at fable or secret at the next forza-title? Only read still creative director in his job profile.
He said yes, he was not working at horizon 5.

New radio station of FH hits and you don't include Zodiac by Sung on it? One of the best songs from FH4? Tsk tsk
It makes you want to smoke your opponent, if anything, the song for the Agera RS.

Not bad.

It has an R4 The Objective feel with its driving beat (no pun intended).

I misinterpreted your post yes. Blame it on lack of sleep.

I think PG have been brave this time around, with the focus on the stories and races not on new cars. I was basically assuming that the small team left updating FH5 (outside of those working on expansion 2 and FH6) has limited bandwidth and introducing all those new eventlab models took precious modelling and testing time which would have been needed to finish up brand new cars, so they went for full recycling.

I'm assuming they will make up for it in the coming months with more new-to-Forza cars. Having said that, anyone know what the iconic donut media cars would be?

P.S. I'm also in the camp which is very much looking forward to the One-77. Along with the McLaren Mercedes SLR that's one of my favourite "chubby, misunderstood, but definitely iconic" British cars which we're missing in FH5.

If you have problems with your Koenig... I mean your S2 998 specialist clearing the seasonal danger sign, raise the front suspension height to the max so the front end does not hit the base of the ramp, which will instantly cost you at least 20 kph in momentum, (and you need about 325+ kph (200 mph) to clear that out).
