After being out most of the day, I booted the game and I was immediately thrusted into the Donut 2 history... and I did not appreciate that ONE BIT... and quitting to free roam seems to get you into an infinite loading screen loop! :banghead:

Edit: Just rebooting the game fixes that... But I refuse to do anything Donut related.

I had the infinite loading screen problem too, I didn't say anything as I thought it was just a glitch my end. I fixed it the same way as well, a quick reboot.

A thrown axe through the television screen also helps but may affect future play.

And if the immediate donut launch wasn't bad enough, it put me in a Nissan. As a previous Nissan owner I try to avoid that, even virtually.

But I brought out my NSX for the speed trap and zone. Didn't do so well in the drift zone, however, so I'll try later.

I don’t love the Donut Media guys, but don’t think they’re anywhere near as bad as people here make them out to be. They’re a bit obnoxious but honestly I find the dialogue more natural and less jarring than the standard Horizon dialogue.
DM story part2 is decent, just yeah i cringe a bit when James said his favourite lines. But hey I would take this story mode higher than any horizon stories. Even myself not a fan of DM but I just enjoying watching their vids as entertainment and if i want something that useful and full with information, I would watch vids from Hagerty.

The EventLab things this week are surprisingly decent. The one night track feels almost like it could be base-game content, and the mountain one is kinda cool but unfortunately has some framerate issues in a few spots on XB1, but not nearly as bad as many of the tracks PG has selected.

For anyone who has messed with the EventLab thing much, is there any way to force off the driving line or TCS or something? I can't seem to find a way to do it but maybe I'm not looking in the right menu.
I'm going to try something new for the Season Change article this week. Please let me know if it's helpful or not.
I found the new table of contents very useful. I mainly use your weekly write-ups for the treasure hunts and finding where to go to smash things and so on to save time hunting around fields... but then I'm pretty jaded/miserable/burned out and do the bare minimum to get the new car and be done with it.

You put in far more work than these RNG-quality weekly lists deserve and I do appreciate that dedication and the work it takes, but sometimes it took some scrolling around to find the section I needed so this makes it much faster/easier to find.
I don't think I have the mental capacity to go through 2 more updates with James Pumphrey in them. He's the very definition of the word cringe. The story mode this time was embarassingly bad and I hated just about every second if it.
I haven't even done either of the Donut ones but this is how I feel about basically every Horizon story. Listening to them chatter is painful and I often find myself talking to my TV. I just did the... one with the douchey street racers like 2 weeks ago for some reason, and after listening to them talk I start the race and 30 seconds in my idiot character says "ANNA call Jaimin" (or whatever his name is) and I found myself pleading out loud "nooo ANNA don't call him... just everybody stop."
Why's he so sad?
I prefer to think it's because he knows how much we all hate him.

Being slightly more serious, I did see something on YouTube the other day from another channel they were doing a collab with and James was surprisingly tolerable. I never intentionally watched Donut stuff beyond like 2 "Up To Speed" videos so maybe they have dialed it back a bit lately?

Did they mess up the GT Black Series sound? I thought it was supposed to be loud, but it seems to have an interior cabin noise regardless of camera view.

I've watched the original Hi-Low series with the 350Zs featured in this update and James is honestly the one person from Donut I absolutely cannot tolerate. Nolan feels like the most likeable/less cringy person on the crew, and the others are just... there I guess. But Pumphrey is just insufferable. It doesn't help he also looks like the visual definition of body odor. He sounds fake and annoying, like a combination of Doug DeMuro, Nick from AR12 and Shmee. His whole pop-up light thingie in the story's 3rd or 4th chapter almost made me throw my controller at the TV. I don't like the guy, and him being the at the forefront of Donut means I simply cannot like what they do.

In some of the Up To Speed videos, there were a few awful moments that made me say "that's enough crack, James" because he was being totally obnoxious.

Ugh. The DM cars are listed as "Doughnut Media 350Z Low Car" and "Doughnut Media 350Z High Car" - the latter of which has two errors in it.

Edit: Oh my word the errors in the subtitling! :yuck:

Well that makes this update entirely more entertaining. Can't wait to get back from work and finally get through this... with the voice volume set to zero.

Why's he so sad?

He knows about my gamer trick. He knows I'm going to mute his a—

The ‘To The Rescue’ Lo-Team mission has such a long black loading screen after completing the mission…

Probably because I am on the XBOX One X, but the loading times usually aren’t that long.

EDIT: Had to reboot the game and problem fixed!

Never has an update made me want to send my character off of the Hotwheels Park quite like this one. MAN I wish they hadn't given the player character a voice. Hearing him imitate the pop-up light cringefest made me mute the TV. 🤢

Still haven't got round to playing this season but after hearing him in the rally expansion I actually changed my male avatar's voice to the female one because it's marginally less annoying and grating. Would prefer not to have to hear it at all though.

Some of y'all really love to exaggerate. The dialogue isn't as different as their youtube channel. But to those complaining about it, you get 4 cars for putting up with a 15 minute story.

Haven’t done any of the Horizon content but the Donut guys were pretty decent in DIRT 5. That was set up more like a podcast between races though.

Personally I could deal with it; I'm not a fan of them or their dumb catchphrases, but the banter between them is the closest this game gets to sounding like an actual conversation. What I can't deal with is the player character saying all the same rubbish with the most stilted and painful delivery possible. I was ambivalent at the start about them talking but now I sincerely hope PG decide that the MC's vocal chords died on the way to their home planet and we revert back to them being mute.

Thankfully I'm good at tuning out American drawl. Although the headlights catchphrase was extremely annoying. 20 seconds of irritation is bearable.

But in the end it was not much effort for 4 brand new cars, and quite fun to be given a 350Z and have to tune to a target (60k credits, A800, certain upgrades required). Definitely a unique challenge.

The Donut voices really dont bug me tbh. Like yeah hearing James Pumphrey's voice is a bit grating but the rest are literally fine. The main character voices are so so much worse like jesus I cant stand them. Either of them

... anything at all.

Still baffling to me that they've done all that work on diversity and representation, but you've only got a choice of smug zoomer male or smug zoomer female voices.

Game's crying out for a nihilistic GenX voice.
And beards, why can't my avatar have a beard like me?
