Forza Horizon 5: General Discussion

I did the Goliath seasonal earlier and had some weirdness I don't recall seeing before. After I got into first the position marker didn't update until the next checkpoint. Then after the AI cars behind passed the checkpoint my position dropped until the next. I was worried the last half of the race that it wouldn't register the win at the finish, but it jumped from fifth to first on the finish screen.

So I've done most of the other stuff for the week, but not the Donut, Trial, nor Flag Rush.

Hey, since Jay Leno's Garage and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee are no longer being made, maybe Leno and Seinfeld would like to do voice-overs while we ramble around. See what XZibit has been doing to help out designs & paints. Okay, maybe not.

And didn't Christina Hendricks voice act in a Need for Speed that wasn't very good? Maybe she wants to voice act in a better racing game. Could just have her talk about doughnuts, tie it all in.

Or get Morgan Freeman. He doesn't even have to be a character. He can just occasionally remark on things. Like, "The Saguaro Cactus you just ended had lived for 163 years. It emerged from this harsh soil before the automobile existed, grew to its impressive height over eight score years of change, and is now scattered across your hood and desert sands."

Better yet, get more from Margo Rey, the actress who voices the classical radio DJ. She could be a riot.

Some of y'all really love to exaggerate. The dialogue isn't as different as their youtube channel. But to those complaining about it, you get 4 cars for putting up with a 15 minute story.

I do! Especially for a laugh. I've actually sat through the Donut Media content without too much problems. It's like any other voiced content in the game. It's eh. I just can't stand the channel or their brand of content creation... my kind of automotive YouTube content is more along the lines of Regular Car Reviews and Doug DeMuro.

Pagani Huayra R. Great sounding car. Great performance, in theory. But that cockpit view makes me sick. What is this, seriously? I feel like I'm in a 838-horsepower version of a MASKA helmet.

And that's with the field of view set to the minimum. It's awful.

Just a heads up for Horizon Promo completionists: the Alejandra’s Flatbeds that are in the Hi Car and Low Car stories are different from the Alejandra’s Flatbed in the Vocho story. In fact there’s a fourth Alejandra’s Flatbed, but there’s no thumbnail for it. (I will admit I’ve only done the Hi Car stories so far. Maybe it shows up later in Low Car?)

The blank thumbnail for the Flatbed Truck is a bug they need to fix. If I remember correctly they've admitted as such, but yeah you need to photograph the rescue truck in both hi and low chapters.

Trial was kinda easy this week. Used the S15 with a downloaded setup and cruised to victory in the first race with my team just competent enough to take the points to our favor. Couldve swept the second race until my hubris made me miss a checkpoint and take P2 on the road.

I've now finished the Donut Media stories. I’m going to go against the grain here and say I enjoyed them. I don’t feel the voice acting was cringy at all. They were having fun, and that came through in their performances. I’m not a fan of their show. I have a very low threshold for their brand of bro-ishness. Despite that, I do have great respect for them. They love cars, and they’ve figured out a way to play with them all day, and make a good living at it, too. They work hard to produce stories their nearly 8,000,000 fans love. And I’m willing to bet just about everyone here would love to have a job like theirs.

With the caveat that if I am ever fortunate enough to have the kind of job they do, I sure as heck hope I won't blow as many engines as they did...

Regular Car Reviews would 100% not work in a Forza Horizon game, not only because it'd be an instant M for Mature rating, but I'd get pretty sick of all the "winga-dinga" mockery if I ever hopped in a car made before 1980.

Oh no I know. Brian's humor (or sudden and unexpected dips into philosophy) is absolutely not made for Forza. I'm just saying I like his content more than Donut. It's okay to not be the target audience, sometimes; I still did the Donut content and I'm still happy to race.

Although it WOULD be funny if he started talking about one of the cars in the game and went on a long 15-minute tirade about post-modernism completely unprompted. I would LOVE to see the average player react to that.

I'm firmly in the middle ground for the Donut Media story. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination game play wise, however for me it was just missing something. I'm not sure what it was but it was bordering on good but not quite there. It might be the Hi/Low story chapters were quite similar, some of the dialogue (Neesan Zee, as a Brit it's pronounced Nis-san Zed, but that's a minor quibble), pop up headlights chant 😡😡😡 and an identical last chapter in both stories that required the same thing to pass.

However, the overall theme and atmosphere of the story was quite jaunty and fun. The cars are good as well.

Agreed there's a lot of copy-paste going on. What it was missing was more variety, period. The final chapter for both paths should have been the same, not duplicated.

Glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed the new Donut Media stories in FH5. THIS is the one I felt the most energy and enthuse by, thus loving the performances that were on display during the playthrough. Although I did cringed from some of them, I still enjoyed it because, well, it involved cars. At least it destroys the last story months ago. This one was actually enjoyable!

need some dialogues like DM ngl, but mc voice acting feels like robotic to me

That and the bouncing back and forth between jokes involving genitalia/bodily functions and Foucaultian Pantopticism would be interesting. I have a couple Literature degrees, so I enjoy the Lit-nerd launches, yet sometimes think, "Dude, chill."

But if we need tie-ins with motor-vehicle YouTubers, I'd see what Ryan F9 (the Fort Nine guy) would do. Sure he's all motorcycles, but some of the narratives are excellent.

Oh Ryan F9 would be fun, I watch him sometimes even though I'm not much of a bike person. As you said, simply excellent narrative.

And now for something completely different. Today's obsession has been D-class muscle cars. On the Goliath.

This has been an amazing experience on the wheel. Something incredibly satisfying about taming the Goliath in a muscle car with 2.1 braking stat and a tendency to slide... and be reasonably fast! If a world top 2% time can be considered reasonably fast. Probably isn't, I'm nothing special, I'm just happy I've done it three times now.
