wow! that looks amazing, looks alot like new zealand to be honest lol. am really hoping it's more then just desert, really hoping for a new fujimi kaido in the form of a canyon somewhere.

That screenshot of the water by the mountains has to be a real pic from the live action cinema. There is no way thats in game. At second glance, its clearly a real picture.

I am losing a little bit hope in the physics. I hope there is a sim option, but I doubt it. Hope there is a demo, and if it isn't good then maybe I wont buy it. With Assassin's Creed 3 and maybe GTA V in october, it's maybe too much. I will be broke by the end of the year.

No, its just a picture of actual Colorado.

Reading some past comments, i'm gaining a little hope again for the physics engine.

If this game is at the eurogamer event then I will check it out and tell you the results. There are already many people who have played and I recommend you check their impressions. Pretty much all of them say it is not simulation.

People are saying the new Viper is a pretty easy drive in FM4, so its behaviour in Horizon might not be that dumbed down.

The impressions seem to be all over the place. Some journalists claim that it's got the FM4 feel, for example. And you get, of course, the opposing reports.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. As I said earlier, Inside Sim Racing will undoubtedly test it and that will be what I'll be going by, for the time being. Well, that, and some members around here that I have some faith in, actually ;)

Since i'm guessing the E3 demos which we were shown for FH had the all assists on, I decided to try the Viper with them on (ABS, TC, SC and Normal Steering) and it didn't oversteer at all and the car movement/handling looked similar to what I saw in the FH demo. So hopefully we will have that FM4 feel in FH with all the assists off.

^ That would be what some folks hinted at, at the very least. It would also make the most sense, from a business point of view, as I explained earlier. I'll hold on hope and will be looking out for further information, though

It would make sense if they went down the assists route like FM4 as all the experienced Forza players could turn them off for the realistic feel and the newcomers to the series can use them until they get used to the physics. The best of both worlds.

Yeah I got a few laps with the Viper. It's pretty well behaved with all assists off. Did the challenge to open up the Autovista and the only big oops I had was breaking to late at the beginning of the corkscrew on the first lap but after that it was easy going. That car with all assists on must be on rails.

Well atleast that brings some hope back for FH.

I just tried it too, very understeery and "neutral" to drive unless you really push it! 👍

The Viper has always been known for its fat tires, and I would guess the new SRT is no different. Perhaps the Forza physics engine slightly exaggerates the grip and stability provided by wider tires?

I know in FM4 I've had some problems with R-class races in the Event List, where the car I want to use (eg. BMW E46 M3 GTR) can't keep up whatsoever, but a newer car with the same PI and wider tires (eg. BMW E92 M3 GTR) can blitz the AI as if they were standing still.

Fulton is quick to stress Horizon does not represent a sidestep in the fundamental feel of a Forza game. The handling has not been overhauled and simplified to suit the new open-world focus.

“Open-world games in the past have been characterised by arcade handling, which is fine,” he says. “But there’s a problem with those games: that all the cars start to feel the same, they start to handle the same. And that doesn’t work for Forza. In Forza, the car is the star. Every car is special.”

“We use exactly the same best-in-class physics and graphics systems that you’ve known and loved in Forza games previously. We have the same unrivalled handling model, which gives all those cars a sense of weight and heft, and believability. We prove, I think, that action racing doesn’t have to compromise on authenticity in order to achieve what we’ve achieved.”
Sounds good.

If the physics are in any way inferior then I think a lot of the Faithful won't forgive Fulton. I'd expect GT5 premium/standard levels of anguish.

Absolutely. Well, actually, even more so. The premium/standard thing was a lie of omission, to me. But dumbing the physics down for FH would mean that Fulton straight up lied to all of us. That would be beyond despicable, in my opinion.

That IGN article sounds great; I like the part where it says they enjoyed tearing up a golf course so they decided to allow players to bust the fence down and drive over it. That implies there will be fewer invisible walls and more freedom. 👍 👍

The article also clears up the "65 surfaces" thing by confirming that they've counted various "nuanced combinations." Tying in with the thing about the golf course, perhaps that includes surfaces wholly separate from roads and trails. Are they gonna put the SUVs to use? Colorado is a great choice of locale for that. I'd totally drive a Wrangler up a rocky bluff. I'll never use it in FM4.

Personally I'm back to my original level of anticipation/hope. :)

The dumbing down issue and unforgiving comments are interesting.

How many think if it was dumbed down they would do it intentionally.
Or it's dumbed down because of hardware.

Personally I think if it's dumbed down its because of limitations no less.
After all T10 have the physics engine up and running.
Dumbing down in this case would require more work oddly.

Well it seems the physics engine is gonna be great again. Thanks Turn 10 and Playground Games, hope you deliver a fantastic game. Forget my past comments, this game is gonna be bought when it releases :D

That's a shame. I really didn't see it happening but I was holding out hope.

I still can't believe they're not including Pikes Peak. I thought it was garunteed given it is in Colorado... Maybe it will be a $20 expansion pack LOL.

Whoops, here I go again being disappointed by things that were never announced...

So we have two very contradictory quotes from two people who are responsible for the game

Alan Hartman. T10 Studio head:

It is based on the same physics engine, yes. We did tweak things to allow for more "stylish" driving, though.

keywords: based, tweak

and

It's based on the Forza 4 engine, again, but with some significant changes.

keywords: based, significant changes

Ralph Fulton of Playground games:

“We use exactly the same best-in-class physics and graphics systems that you’ve known and loved in Forza games previously.

keywords: exactly the same

Source

So somebody is wrong or distorting the truth. I'm inclined to say it's Fulton, as Hartman would have no reason to do so.

Just food for thought.
