The Fanatec wheels is much smoother in the force feedback than the G25. Though if you crank it up it´s stronger so it´s harder being smooth with it then. As for force feedback feel it´s mostly in the software that limits them. Look at the different PC titles and how much the ffb feel differs! Remember not all sims have feedback that is realistic they are often used as aid so you get more information on how your car is doing. Since you can´t feel G-forces that well while racing otherwise :)

But it´s not the wheel it´s the implementation and the game physics that would limit it. On PC sims there is really no comparison to the G25. GT 3 RS and 911 Turbo is pretty much identical to the Turbo S internally no bigger differences.

As for extreme angles well as mentioned that was a cosession to the gamepad drivers in Forza 2 so it´s very possible it´s still in there :).

I am quite hesitant about all this drifting. I mean it´s superb for Project Gotham Racing but why should serious sims get infected by this virus that seems to spread everywhere... Drifting around corners is NOT the fastest way around. Sure have it in separate modes but don´t put it in scoring points for great powerslides in the real career... I mean 9x out of 10 it´s a misstake why should it be rewarded???

Who said its the fastest?

It's pretty clear what is the problem with steering in forza 3.

Forza 2 has steering help, steering is not linear (you can check it in telemetry). It makes driving with pad relatively easy. For example, when catching a slide, even 2-5 mm turn of stick will turn wheels ingame just enough to catch the slide. And you would expect to have little countersteer with that. It makes normal/race driving easy. But also makes drifting twitchy as it's very hard to have smooth countersteer in game. It is possible to get used to, but sucks non the less.

But on wheel in forza 2 the steering help is still active. So basically driving with a wheel is like driving with a pad, but insteed of pushing a stick, driver rotates a wheel. :P

And most likely the same steering help was transfered to forza 3.

Let's hope that they will work on it. Otherwise I find owning a wheel for xbox 360 quite pointless.

Noone say it´s faster. That is just an explanation why it´s so silly to drift around corners while racing for position since it´s slower.

Steering in Forza 2 like in GT 5 Prologue is not linear yes. In Forza 2 definiatly optimized more for gamepad. I would expect GT 5 to do the same to satisfy 90 % of their user base.

It sucks that they do it but well it´s the only right thing to do if they want to appeal to the masses. Hopefully Race Pro will have as good steering as Race 07 at least.

As for the trolling joke, was it really necessitated? I don't really see many trolls floating around this thread, if members make some relevant observations and bring them to light, what's wrong with that?

Necessary? Depends. Its been on and off since E3, and it seems to get worse when different bits of news and "news" shows up.

But, then again, is it any different in the GT5 threads? Not entirely. But, that's the internet. I feel like there are far too many petty arguments in here (and the GT5 threads) over finite details and "facts" that may or may not be true, which is why I largely avoid the discussions on a consistent basis. I'll be buying both games, both will likely be quite good, and I'll likely enjoy both for the fact that they offer a solid racing experience that is unlike any other franchise out there. Do I care if they didn't render the headlights properly on the ST204 Celica? Not in the least. Does that make Forza 3 a terrible game? Not in the slightest.

If I remember correctly Dan said something during the promotion of Forza 2 that they did a bit of work on steering with the controller so it like it is. I think this is what makes Forza seem the way it does to most people as far as the physics go.

Yes PD and turn 10 both does it. Suck but well what can you do. In 2020 all cars will be driven by joysticks hopefully then it will be less of a problem... Though I will probably be on the barricades saying it´s so much more fun with wheel and manual shifter/clutch lol

It's fairly nessasary for controllers (sticks and pads) but on wheels you get full control of the wheels, or at least should, Like I said earlier looks like Forza might not give you full control of the steering when you use a wheel or atleast the Fanatec shown in the video.

GT doesn't do it on the wheels, something I expect fixed for Forza by the time it ships.

The wheels move 1:1 with the steering (using a wheel) all the time, it doesn't change with speed like it does using the Controller.

I cant wait to get FORZA 3 and run some of the new cars and at the sametime I cant wait to get GT5,I mean I leaning alittle toward FORZA cause of some of the cars/trucks I mean come on and I dont care about what anyones thinks but having a Foxbody mustang is just badass and I hope GT5 will have a fox or even the SN95!

Heh. Take a look at this:

I just watched the GS demo, and I have to say, that I don't think anyone can really compare it to the GT series anymore. It would appear that the two franchises have split and have gone their separate ways. I mean, one is so accessible it's almost ridiculous (rewind and auto brake in a "simulator"...yeah....) and the other is heading towards becoming something of a hardcore franchise. Both are pretty cool, but, even with Froza 2 and GT4, they played soooooo differently, there really wasn't much to compare, other than the sound and graphics.

If I remember correctly, Turn10 even encouraged people to buy GT4 at one point, and I'm sure they're watching GT5 and GTPSP. But, I think it's more that they're watching it out of respect, not competition. I mean, when you're "competitor" has 1000 cars and 25+ Gigs of room to mess around with, it's almost silly to say "Let's compete with them". I think it's smart of developers like Turn10, EA and Atari to kind of move away from trying to compete with GT5 and simply find your own little niche in the racing genre. (Test Drive released "Eve of Destruction" shortly after GT3 was released, abandoning their simulation series, and then later returned to their roots with the creative Test Drive Unlimited which was an MMOR. Need For Speed series hasn't ever really tried to compete with GT, but, I don't think the upcoming Shift is a real direct competition with the simulator series.)

So, in conclusion, I would say, Forza 3 looks pretty fun, but there are some things that I am questioning (still have yet to see any extensive damage on the Ferraris, What's with the plaid grass textures? Rewind feature in a simulator? Really? and, is it me, or do the cars in the Forza games seems excessively shiny and colorful?) which just tells me they're slowly pushing towards a more arcady-style simulator (like NFS Shift and GRID). But, GT also seems like it's going to be a lot of fun (and we still don't know a lot of the details surrounding GT5). I'd say, Go GT and Forza!

Actually, I'm both a FM fanboy and a GT fanboy...soo.......and all I was saying is that they are both good games.

Nice to see a fine opinion for once without some random fanboy remark. 👍

I just realized when looking two screenshots for both games in another thread that I'd be cycling between the two endlessly.

Anyway enough of the fanboy and troll accusations and more with the pictures

i was just told that forza 3 cars poly count will be 1,000,000 vs GT5s 200,000

how is this possible, forza 3 cars do not look better than gt5

They look good, but not better

Polygons just say how accurate the geometry can potentially be. They define the finite shapes that when combined give the shape of the model. If you want a sphere that looks like a sphere, it requires a lot of polygons. If you have a flat plate, well, it doesn't really take many polygons at all.

If Forza truely does have more polygons, it still doesn't mean the cars will look better. It might mean things like curves and circles are smoother in FM3. Or it might mean the FM3 devs put polygons where they dont need to be.

If the higher polygon count is true, it may be down to the extra detailing of the underside / chassis of the car. With the damage models becoming more advanced in both FM 3 & GT5 we need to start seeing detailed chassis.

I have trouble believing GT5's cars have only 200,000 polygons. Does anyone have info on this?

Wow! Haven't seen an F-Body Trans-Am since High Stakes!

Whaaa? So we're getting Fox Bodies and late-model F-Bodies? Someone give Turn10 a cookie, they've officially made my favorite game, and I haven't even played it yet.

Early leaked info (tofu guy) about Forza3 clearly stated that the high poly models were not used during gameplay, that might be the reasson some shots/videos look different. If you look at the detail of the cars in the menu's and some photomode shots (parked cars), I think that might indeed be the case.

200.000 poly's is more then enough and sounds like a reasonable number for GT5, compared to what other models in PC sims use and the way they look (or not ;) )

quote I was refering to:
Super high level of detail car models in replays (Currently the super high detailed models are used in the UI homespace/garage, thumbnails, livery editor, and photo mode).
