You can only use:

Fanatec Porsche Turbo S
Microsoft Xbox 360 Racing Wheel
Logitech DriveFX

Does anyone know how the DriveFX wheel performs compared to the MS Wheel? I have an MS wheel now but the lock to lock is busted on it from a late night drunk racing session. Looking to get another wheel but don't want to buy another MS wheel. I really want the Fanatec but I heard you can't order them anymore because they're out of stock. Is that true?

I've used DriveFX and MS wheel, and the logitech wheel sucks. There's no FFB, only vibration. There's good resistance, but doesn't compare to the full FFB MS wheel.

Thanks for the quick reply, mate! The MS wheel still works fine but sometimes I find myself getting a little too excited and crank the wheel over it's limit causing it to reset upside down and ruining my race. I really want the Fanatec but will have to ask the wife-to-be for permission to get one. Very slim chance she will approve since I already have 2 gaming wheels (MS & G25).

Well i'm happy it has my old car the CTS-V and the New one. I'm also happy they got rid of the locked car levels.... bUt I really like the ZR-1 but not enough to pay $10 for...

I would also love a Fanatec. I'd settle for a MS wheel. Unfortunately my wife found out I was looking for a wheel, and decided to buy it for me. One of my friends went with her, neither of them looked at reviews, and I ended up with the DriveFX. Now I can't buy a better wheel cause it'll hurt her feelings. I'm willing the damn Logitech to break so I have an excuse to replace it with a full FFB wheel, but it just won't. Curse the logitech build quality! I play on my friends MS wheel every chance I get and it's a much better experience. Especially with Forza 3, I think they really nailed the wheel feedback this time. Have you played F3 with your wheel yet?

I cant wait til this comes out, it'll be the main game I play on my 360 for a while so I'd like to install both discs onto my HDD (mainly to cut down on the noise the disc makes in the drive), I know the second disc is 1.9GB but has anyone seen anything pertaining to how much space the first disc might take up?

Given that they needed a second disc, I'm going to assume that the first disc is full. So... 8 gigs or so? Therefore approximately 10 gigs total.

I have used the wheel a few times with Forza 3 and I like it a lot. I bought the wheel when Forza 2 and it did the job just fine. I really love how the wheel feels with the Forza 3 demo and look forward to the full game. The physics improvement is great Just curious how much better it would be with the Fanatec wheel. I would love to have the H shifter and 900 degrees of rotation for Forza 3. You can say I've been spoiled by the G25 wheel. I didn't think the MS wheel was that bad when I first purchased it until I compared the feel to the G25. Too bad the wheel isn't compatible with the 360.:(

An easy way to break the wheel is to counter-steer really fast past the lock of the wheel. Not that I'm advising you to do anything of the sort but I'm just saying that is one way to break the wheel. I broke the lock-to-lock on my MS wheel because I was clipped from behind and had to counter-steer really fast to keep from spinning out. Turned a little too far and heard a pop then the wheel spun another half turn and resetted itself upside down.

I assume that overloads the motor or does something to break the motor/wheel alignment. But my DriveFX has no motor! I think I'll just have to drag it out, race with it for a week or so, then snap it when noone's looking. I agree about the wheel feeling great on Forza 3, much more communication than F2 I feel.

Heh, that's tough. Though I bet you could swap the wheel and she wouldn't even notice.

9.5/10 on IGN...it is now so very tempting to buy a 300 dollar console for just one 60 dollar game (most of the games I own are on PS3 and PC so there's no real games I'd want on the 360...and no I don't really like Halo or Gears)

If you buy a xbox 360 i highly recommend the BAFTA award winning Fable 2, for me it was a awesome time-sink with great open world gameplay ( i love that s**t), personally i felt that lionshead studio's put alot of heart into the game....so i would give it a try 👍

It wasn't the motor that broke. It was the 2 pins that prevents you from turning the wheel full circle that broke off of the gear. FFB motor still works fine and the wheel is still as aligned as an MS wheel could be. Just that mine can keep turning and turning without anything stopping it. My friend's son came over one day and kept turning the wheel one way while we were talking and it yanked all the wires loose inside the wheel. I had to take it apart to reconnect everything.

I'm sure if you broke the lock-to-lock on your FX wheel and turn it a bunch of times, it'll rip out the wires internally and won't work anymore. Then you can tell your wife that the wheel broke and get yourself a Fanatec!👍 Yes, I am a very bad influence.:D

I actually think the DriveFX is MUCH MUCH better than the MS wheel, but it needs a bit of trickery.

- Using the small button near the D-pad, set the wheel to the slowest sensitivity. I think it's when the light blinks fastest.
- In console preferences, turn OFF vibration.

Now you'll lose the weird rumble feedback, but you'll get a much firmer and more precise wheel.

I'd strongly advise against getting an MS wheel, and fyi I have both. After using the DriveFX, the MS wheel feels absolutely hopeless... it's numb and sloppy, with what feels like a 20 degree deadzone, but the worst part is the pedal range - which is frankly useless. I suggest running the DFX for a while with vibration off, to see if you can get used to it. It's no Fanatec or G25 but I think it feels better than anything else available for the 360.

Same thing happened to my MS wheel, the end stop broke off (after some drift abuse)..

I put a metal stem in it's place, bolted in, and while I had it open, glued the position sensor shaft to the sensor itself which has transformed the wheel into some much more precise (no deadband at all, only the 'gear' backlash of the mechanics), and I ajusted the sensor to line the wheel up more respectably!..

I had to do all this, as I want to save up for a Fanatec, but after years of just buying whatever I want, I am now forced to 'save up' until I can afford things (Ahh, the joys of having kids...)

So I just watched the IGN video review of this game. "Best physics ever" eh? Hmmmm.... When I see a car snake through a chicane, and then flip onto 2 wheels at a 45' angle just because it clipped the rumble strip...er, no thanks.

Yes, it looks nice, seems to be well structured, and has a lot of features. However, they use the term "accessible" a lot. Accessible generally means dumbed down. I'll stick with Gran Turismo me thinks - save my cash on buying an Xbox 360 just for one game and get a wheel and stand instead.

Please, pretty please, avoid the DriveFX wheel at all costs. That was the worst purchase I have ever made in regards to gaming. The wheel is just a loud pile of garbage. There is no force feedback at all, even though it has a force feedback motor. The wheel is not compatible with the Xbox 360's force feedback, so Logitech just uses the force feedback motor as rumble (like your controller) instead. Secondly, it's loud as heck when turning it. You can hear the mechanics inside the wheel turn, many times even overpowering the sound coming from your TV. The quality is very poor as well, and the pedals slide WAY too easy.

With the Fanatac being out of reach for many people money wise (and close to being sold out, if not already sold out), the MS wheel is your best choice. It lacks a shifter and 900 degrees, but it's solid, and it has excellent force feedback...especially in Forza 3. It's completely compatible with all racing titles on the 360 as well.

I just placed my pre-order about 10 minutes for the limited edition. I am sorry, but I just can't give up the ZR1. If this game only came with one car, and it was the ZR1, I would still buy it.

If anyone has the time, can they post a direct download link for the GT HD review? My work blocks the site. If not, that is cool. If anyone has already watched it, did they show anything we don't know yet?

IMO, it's better than FM1, FM2 and GT5p. However, Race Pro 2009 still has FM3 beat, and GT5 could beat it come March.

Couldn't agree less. I think it's easily 10x better than the MS wheel when it comes to driving. In the demo it doesn't give rumble and feedback at the same time, but it will in the full game (reduce vibration amount).

Set vibration to 25-30% and you get the same amount of feedback and rumble as with the MS, only with a more natural feel. Don't ask me about the technical details, all I can say is it works.

It is also miles ahead when it comes to precision and build quality. I have no idea why yours is loud, mine makes no sound at all.

The pedal base is slippery, but that's the only negative point.

I own both wheels (actually two MS wheels since one broke), and to be honest after playing with the DFX I'd rather quit than use the MS wheel. It's harsh, but that's how bad it felt when I tried to go back to the MS because of posts like yours.

I own both as well, though the DriveFX remains in storage. The wheel is easily the biggest waste of money in the form of gaming. I was going to eBay it, but I didn't want to get bad feedback, tarnishing my rating, because it's just that bad.

But then again, that is just our experiences. Neither one of us are wrong, we just have a different feeling about the wheels. That's cool.

Why did you selectively choose to not quote the bit about the car flipping 45 degrees as it hopped over a rumble strip? Yeah, massive improvement... It's like they added rollover into it, and because it's new, they over-do the ease at which you can do it.

The whole game looks good, sounds good, but is in fact heading in the wrong direction for me. Far too commercial and conformist now. While I am not impressed with the GT5 launch date, I can rest easy in the knowledge that we will get a serious driving game, not one sprinkled with fairy dust.

Edit: Oh dear, I just watched that Gametrailers video review... So, a pristine car goes smashing head on into another one. Then, all of sudden, the entire car is covered in long scratches and scrapes down the sides and over the roof... Riiiiiiight. Interesting to hear that the AI pretty much follows a strict racing line, overtaking occasionally. Doesn't sound like the fantastic AI that people here have been harping on about.

Why would I include every single glitch or every single perfection in every reply? Every game has them. What do you want me to say?

FM3 has finally gone even more sim in this version, and I am pumped about it.

I've just played the demo and I can tell you this isn't the case.

Anyway, the demo is fun but for some reason I find it hard to get used to the left and right triggers as gas / break. Maybe because I have played GT for years using the "X" button, which has worked because it's pressure sensitive. In some sense, though, it feels more natural because I'm only using one hand to gas and brake, like I only use one foot.

I almost think that using right trigger / right shoulder button would feel more natural for gas / break. Anyone know how customizable the controller is?

I was disappointed to see that they havn't bothered modelling the new wing on the 2009 Pug 908 and just re-used the 2007 model. They did the same thing with the R8.

They have dropped the ball on many of those details it seems. I am curious as to who is in charge of the quality control of these car designs over there.

It's not just cars, some tracks are stuck in 2007 too (if they are returning that is). Understandable given the tight schedule.

So the limited edition will come with the ZR1 for $10 more? Wouldn't it be possible for the people who didn't get the LE copy of Forza 3 to just buy a ZR1 from the Online Auction with in game credits instead of spending $10 more of real money to get it? That is a pretty dirty thing to do if they lock out all the regular copies of the game of ever being able to purchase the ZR1 from the online auction. I would hate M$ even more.
