[UPDATE 17/6/17 2:20pm: we'll need to look at our captures more closely, but transitioning between multiple baked lighting models may be how Turn 10 has achieved this - it's an approach most recently seen in Horizon Zero Dawn]

Interesting article. I wonder if they're ever planning to delivery truly "uncompressed" sound. Speaking of which, I've recently been toying around with the Dolby Atmos setting and I gotta say it does make the cars sound more life-like (FM6/H3). Impressive work.

Why is it that only PCars 2 can achieve dynamic weather and time? As first party studios T10 and PDI really should be doing this also.

The engine T10 uses - I doubt if it can stay locked at 60 fps if it starts doing ToD like CARS2 does. And I can live with that. I'd rather have a richly detailed soundstage coupled with crisp-looking visuals that never hiccup at 60 fps.

I sort of get the feeling T10/PG are afraid to try pushing whatever system they are developing on and instead choose to take baby steps. Of course it may also be deliberate in order to have something big for each new release since both titles have a regular schedule.

I can't think of a reason for PD other than the fact it's PD.

I just hope SMS can deliver on consoles as Live Track sounds amazing.

Well, there goes my hope.

again by going from an interview I read of Chris Tector some time ago, maybe a month or two, when he was asked about scorpio and if he got everything he wanted out of microsoft's new hardware, he had one "complaint" to do: he said he pushed for some dedicated sound h/w chips and stuff, and these did not fit the final bill of materials.
We have to keep in mind that Forza Motorsport having this strict recipe for max resolution-max framerate at all times, it must make their sound resource budget thinner than other titles. Under this perspective, sound design in FM is even more impressive. Especially if these sound improvements we saw on E3 reach xbone too.

if you want me to make a list of what pcars does not achieve, my Sunday is ruined :)

edit:
premature sound comparo fm6-fm7

It's not like the game is going to sell out (on digital platforms) anyway, so no need to pre-order 3 months in advance ;)
Personally speaking early access was more of a thing with me with FM6 because I didn't yet have a PC and there wasn't much else to play over that summer. Now that DiRT 4's been released I'll probably wait until post release for FM7, especially if I get PCars 2.

But that does mean I have to pay for a online subscription? I have not been online on xbox live since forza 4.
If you're on PC, I think you can do multiplayer for free, but if you're on console you need Xbox Live Gold.

I hope that Tyre-Lettering like in Horizon3 returns to Forza 7.
The only problem in Horizon3 with Tyre-Lettering...we can put it on normal cars with the Horizon race tyres, but we are not able to put it on (GT)- Racecars.
Hope for an option in Forza 7 - racecars look more authentic with tyre-lettering.

That's one of the things I was expecting to see in F7 (especially after the NASCAR expansion and its Goodyear branded tyres), but all the race cars shown so far don't have any logo, unfortunately. Could be an option for the livery editor, but I doubt it.

I'm sorry, but I find the two statements somewhat conttradictory. Are you saying there will or won't be any improvements? You said Tector pushed for dedicated sound chips that didn't make the final console build. Then there's the constant push for max resolution and frame rate lock, so their sound budget is most likely not so heavy compared to other aspects in the game.

So how can the sound be more impressive? And what sound improvements from E3 are you talking about? Perhaps I haven't been keeping myself current on that.

right above, I have put two videos with comparable sound from forza6 and forza7. listen to them and come to your own conclusion if sound is improved or not. that's always the best way

For the trucks, sure. But aren't those different models of the 911?
Indeed. That's a 4.0-liter N/A Flat-6 up against a 3.8 Twin-Turbo Flat-6.

They're going to produce some unique sounds to themselves. You might get a more similar sound comparing the 997 GT2 instead; 3.6-liter TT H6.
second part of the porsche video though is nismo gtr, same car same conditions, thats why I put it ;)

Forgive one's assumption then when the video is titled;
"Forza Motorsport 7 Vs Forza Motorsport 6 "Comparaison Son" Porsche 911 GT2 RS XBOX ONE X"

Not that it changes Speedster's point; the Nismo comparison is fine, but the 911 one features 2 different cars with different engine configurations.

I'm with you there guys, I didnt make or name the videos.
porsche comparo its basically just recent 911's. even there, you can still check complementary to the engine sounds like transmission shifts and chassis, but as I wrote second part of that video has a completely apples to apples comparison

This may be somewhat off topic but I have to tell you guys that the Dolby Atmos with headphones setting really brings alive the overall sound stage and car sounds in particular. Most of the cars I've tested in FM6 with this setting sound very life-like. Absolutely insane what am advanced audio format can do to a game's soundtrack.

Sorry for dumb question - how you playing F6 and using Dolby Atmos? Sound through PC ?

One of the system updates (I'm guessing the latest one) introduced Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos for headphones for games. Previously, it was available as beta only for movies.

Just download the Dolby Access app and enjoy your 30-day trial. Buzzkill: you have to pay $15 to continue using it after that. I'm on the fence about getting it because the app is glitchy at the moment - you can ONLY get Dolby Atmos sound for the session you're in. If you power up your console the next time, you can no long enable the Atmos option (it will give you an error). The only workaround is to delete and reinstall it EVERY time you want to enable Dolby Atmos in subsequent gaming sessions.
