If this game is focused on racing.

I hope to God that there is no useless stupid collarborations that make no sense.

This includes hot wheels and lego.

I want some serious collarborations especially based on racing. Heck even collarborate with tyre companies or even tuning companies as long as its serious and car centred.

I feel like this game is actually being marketed for racing fans or fans who love motorsport without having kind of horizon themes or try to be like horizon.

Back to basics the OG style.

HotWheels have great racing diecasts that would fill the gap of racing cars they couldnt get otherwise like NASCAR/Stock Cars, some Formula cars and others

I am not saying that should be priority, but it can be a nice replacement if they cant get certain racing licences due exclusivty with others

Who's "you guys?" Why are you ascribing a single personality to the thousands of members on this forum, as though everyone here belongs to a single hivemind — except you, apparently?

GT Sport got the reception it did because it had been 4 years since GT6, and it's arguably understandable to be disappointed that the first PS4-era Gran Turismo would be an eSports-focused, online-multiplayer centric title instead of something closer to the previous games. Especially after it became clear the single-player campaign was going to be lackluster... and with the usual lack of communication from Polys.

Like it or not, Turn 10 is doing something right with these Forza Monthly videos, and it's communicating what to expect. In the worst-case scenario, it's plenty of material to hold them accountable to if the game does turn out not to be what they said it would be.

But go ahead. Keep comparing apples and oranges. Disingenuous to the core.

I see "hive mind" and I instantly think...

IIRC, the problem at the time was that PD kept on promoting the eSports focus and FIA partnership while, in typical PD fashion, failing to mention that GT Sport was going to be a major tonal shift from previous entries and that it was going to be a significantly smaller game overall, in terms of car count, track count and things to do. Yes, those issues were addressed over time, but I do remember it catching a lot of users off-guard when the game first launched, which sparked a decent amount of negativity.

With FM '23, Turn 10 made it clear from the get-go what they were aiming for, and have had regular streams where they showcase the changes being made with FM '23, while also giving really deep dives into core details about the game, and showing how those details and changes helped T10 maintain their focus for this game. They're doing all of this while also answering community questions and addressing some of the long-standing concerns from previous titles. Because of this, there's a much clearer picture of what FM '23 is and isn't, and as a result there's been much better overall reception.

It's crazy what a little communication can do, isn't it?

Literally nobody is forcing you to post here.

Who exactly is "you guys?" I personally haven't said such a thing, and there have been plenty of times, both in the Motorsport and Horizon subforums, where there has been criticism levied at T10/PG's continued use of 360-era car models in the newer games.
To be fair, just for accuracy purposes and NOT trying to be argumentative :), what you recall is incorrect although its what the bulk of people think/ thought happened. What was in GT Sport at release was precisely what was detailed in that presentation at the London unveiling and the approx number of tracks was also mentioned. I was there on the second day (the public day) and saw the presentation rerun. It was also clear that car content was smallish at that event (and in the subsequent pre-release beta too).

It was also detailed in a news post on here the day before, after the official unveiling.

(shameless plug follows for reference ).

As an aside, I also got to meet the big man himself! Well I met Kaz as well but obviously I'm specifically referring to @Jordan

If anything, it's GT7 where the content was "overegged" rather than GTS.

For GTS, multiple YouTubers (e.g. Team VVV) were being told they were lying pre release when they said there was no career mode in GT Sport. I knew it wasn't as it was clear from that very first presentation, and felt the treatment of them by some commenters with fingers in their ears was appalling at the time.

There are MANY cases where what PD has said (or not said e.g. GT7 macrotransactions) I have felt was bad/ improper, ironically GTS content at launch is possibly the only one where they actually told pretty much the whole truth.

However, on topic, missing drift and drag modes in FM23 at launch is a whole different kettle of fish to not having any career mode at launch, and to compare the two equally as has been done is frankly ridiculous.

I do think however that if they do not return at all that is a more concerning outcome for a game that is going to have a multi year active lifespan, even though I'm neither a drifter nor a drag races (I'm barely competent at driving!

In practice they're going to have to find ways to keep interest in the game going for ?5 years, and adding additional modes could be a good part of doing that.

I'm willing to bet they also have solid telemetry that very few people actually did drag racing or drifting.
To be completely fair, if drag racing had been anything more than a half baked test mode, it probably would have been used more. Although I think drag, drift and the general car culture have a better home in Horizon.

Judging by the number of people who prefer to do informal "drag" racing at the Festival outpost in FH5 vs. the actual number of players who use the Drag Race events, I'd say it's a fair assessment. The festival playlist hasn't touched drag at all that I can remember either.

Personally, I've used Drag events mostly for testing purposes, logging times to compare tunes or cars. It's a quick and easy way to test acceleration.

Ah yes, it's focused on circuit racing, this new FM title has my interest. It could be a lot of fun and I happily now have a lot or room for it thanks to buying a new HDD this year.

Comments like these don't really help, you know? And there's nothing to "get ready" for, you can simply ignore people who you don't want to hear from.
not looking forward to seeing "You are ignoring content by this member" every other comment lol. it is what it is

Good to see that no matter which part of the forum outside the GT section you decide to dip into to stir up, your takes remain asinine.
Not just outside from the looks of things. He seems to be a bit of a poo magnet generally.

I'm pretty sure I remember doing drag events recently as part of the FH5 playlist. Probably as optional daily challenges, I'm not sure. Don't think I would've touched the mode otherwise as I much prefer driving with corners.

People as a whole will fight harder for stuff they perceive as having been taken away from them than stuff they never had in the first place but to be honest, drag and drift didn't have a huge presence in earlier FM games to the best of my knowledge. It seems an odd thing to concentrate on their absence given the multiple revelations about the game in the video and hopefully in future showcases.

Hopefully Chris'll start doubling up on topics soon if he intends to maintain a monthly schedule until launch. He mentioned a pretty long list.

Don't worry, GTP's forum software handles it quite smoothly. After a day or so even the ignored content flag drops off. You simply don't see posts by the blocked member unless you click the Show Ignored Content link at the bottom. You may see the odd contextless reply popping up, though.

I hope there'll be a good amount of races and event to start with in Forza Motorsport 2023. Also I can only hope Penalties can be turned off for casual players like me. Quick Edit: In singleplayer.

This video by HokiHoshi is definitely worth a watch in my opinion, in particular the comments about how FM7's Drivatars had no access to partial throttle control and how the improved AI is likely to lead to a more accurate and balanced PI system and fewer meta cars dominating multiplayer along with players hopefully learning better racecraft from them, thus benefitting all players - online and in single player.

No , you lie !

The best one I read is " It had been four years since GT6 and the first game on next gen so the blowback was justified !"

It's been six years since forza 7 and the first new game on next gen ( Horizon is not Motorsport ) yet it is smaller and more focused but how dare I point out the hypocritical copium . By this point those 360 models are also older than the 2001 standard models that showed up in a 2009 game .

It's just a joke. I find the bickering hilarious.
I wish I found it hilarious, instead I just find it tiresome.

I think there would actually be a really good way for them to partner with Hot Wheels that would benefit both parties. Hot Wheels has tons of castings for real race cars, and they make limited runs for Forza already... So it seems like a simple promotion opportunity to me:

When Hot Wheels is about to release a new casting of a real-world race car, partner/coordinate with Forza to get it put into the game at the same time (or make a Hot Wheels car pack with multiple cars). Then have a promotion in Forza where you paint the car, and your livery could be selected to be put onto the diecast car in the next Forza-themed Hot Wheels series.

It would add more relevant cars to the game, give players a chance to immortalize their work, surely end up with a bunch of liveries in-game for the community to download, create another series for collectors to buy up, and save the Hot Wheels design team a little time (as surely it would still take some time to modify the liveries a bit for the scale). It could also encourage crossover between the two fanbases, with Forza players more likely to buy a Hot Wheels of a car they drive in Forza with a cool livery they use/see all the time even if they aren't normally a collector, and for diehard Hot Wheels fans maybe on the fence about gaming stuff, the chance to drive some of the cars in their collection and try their own hand at a livery could be the push they need to try it out.

Naturally you would leave the fantasy models to Horizon, while the real race cars and such go to Motorsport.

The fact it'll be circuit racing focused at launch makes me want to consider pre-ordering it.
The same as every Forza Motorsport game then?

I am still waiting to hear about Homologations hopeful demise. The new confirmation of Circuit Racing focus is dead air. Having a quarter mile track to appease the drag enthusiasts is hardly derailing the game into an unfocussed mess.

Not quite. If they say they're going to concentrate on a track focused roster then it sounds like it could be a step up from the previous game's limos and SUVs.

🤔 It depends on how much this affects the track selection, car roster and direction of the single player career.

Nobody said that it would, but it won't be in at launch. I don't think this is a no-purchase game breaker for most of their target audience, though. If they did the bare minimum as you suggest people would still complain that it was half assed and would demand more.

I'm happy for them to concentrate on getting the driving experience and track racing basics sorted out in time for October rather than appeasing a small number of people.

Is it bad that I saw that rewind was confirmed? I use rewind A LOT when I go into free play to take a car on a track and try to find the best corner entrance and exit. I go through, then I rewind and go through again, rewind. Rinse and repeat until I find the best line.

He was talking about the lack of a drag strip.

Rewind is 99% sure to be in the game. As you said, many of their users depend on it!

Yeah, I was purposely going off topic a bit ;)

I'll never block anyone. It's a bit childish in my opinion.
Which is why it took me so long. I have seen the internet turn into a hellhole more and more as time goes on, that I just can't subject myself to having to weed through all the BS anymore. I just can't do it. I used to find the "wars" entertaining to watch, but it has become so toxic, that I would only rather see posts from people like you and other fellow veterans here.

If childish means I get to avoid discontent, I will take it 😎 Maybe because I am just getting too old for this?

GT Sport was lambasted even though PD said they were going to focus on E Sports .

Hypocrisy to the core on this forum .

Oh wait you guys defended the fact they were using a 360 asset with that BMW 😅.
Dumb post is dumb. Mind pointing out the exact users that were doing that here? Seeing how ridiculously hard you're trying to grasp at a moot point, it should be fairly easy. False equivalency at its core with you.

Um, no? I mean dude, FM7 had SUVs being focused on along with trophy trucks. With a career mode that in reflection feels like an afterthought. and in a couple of those packs, they added 2-3 offroad focused vehicles in dlc packs versus maybe one race car.

I would almost argue they haven't been circuit racing focused since FM5 with how little they cared to work on the career mode and the online racing modes.

I loved Chris Esaki's section in the latest Forza Monthly. One of the most interesting and informative pieces about a driving game that I've seen in a long time, with lots of specific detailed information that can't be inferred by playing the game. While I'm still not keen on the game requiring over a thousand hours of grinding just to be able to apply any tune to any car, I'm really looking forward to experiencing the physics and AI changes, and will definitely be buying the game at launch. I was very pleased to hear him talk about specifics such as the absurd lift-off oversteer in FM7 (you really had to play with a wheel to experience just how bad it was, as the controller assists largely fixed the problem), and how it was indeed unrealistic and is fixed with the physics improvements in the new FM. It seems that maybe the fake difficulty of older games may not have been intended specifically as fake difficulty, but rather was a consequence of inadequate physics models. I fully believe that there is actually no need for an arcade vs sim distinction in driving games, as realistic physics should be easy to drive. I recently played ACC again, having not played it for a while, and was very impressed by the current physics, I think it shows that realistic shouldn't equate to undriveable.

The two statements - that there's no scripted or artificial nobbling/boosting of the AI and the fact that certain behaviours can be implemented - do not mesh. It's really not hard to see that they are incongruent, absent further explanation.
You are technically correct. The AI is implemented by writing code, so in that sense everything it does is scripted, with the script being the code. At the same time, I understood what Chris meant, he's talking about specific types of scripted behaviour. It becomes a grey area where we draw the line between the types of unrealistic scripted behaviours that he's saying aren't present, and the behaviours embodied by the code that are present, but for the most part, I feel like I understood what types of behaviour he was saying would fall into each category and therefore be present or absent.

I fully expect them to reduce the car experience requirements either before launch or in an early patch as response to community complaints.

Maybe they'll add a multiplier: The more cars you've unlocked, the quicker the next car becomes?

On the subject of ACC, I found a really good controller setting (by SoloX) which allows me to enjoy racing almost as much as FM7. But the ACC physics and AI are considerably better than FM7 so it's getting more and more of my time. This is especially true since the 1.9 update came to both PC and Xbox, since as you said it made the cars feel more comfortable and driveable.

Did someone say Manufacturer affinity?

Or perhaps car collector rank/score?

I feel like 1 hour per car to unlock all upgrades is completely acceptable. However, one hour for a duplicate is going to be a bit more questionable.

Yeah, I'm sceptical about the >1000 hours figure as well. Hope the game doesn't prove us wrong.
Esaki states that the way in which the AI uses vehicle inputs — the “AI controller” — is improved, along with 16 ideal driving lines compared to just three.
I thought Chris talked about nineteen different driving lines (20'53" on the video)?
This has since been stealth edited in the article. :D
