This has now been stealth edited in the article. :D
Wasn't me. I was at my daughter's school play. On a side note, what a terrible week to have eyes and ears.
You are technically correct. The AI is implemented by writing code, so in that sense everything it does is scripted, with the script being the code. At the same time, I understood what Chris meant, he's talking about specific types of scripted behaviour. It becomes a grey area where we draw the line between the types of unrealistic scripted behaviours that he's saying aren't present, and the behaviours embodied by the code that are present, but for the most part, I feel like I understood what types of behaviour he was saying would fall into each category and therefore be present or absent.
I'm pretty sure I think I know what they mean by it all, but I'm also not quite as dense as that earlier chap was pretending I am. It's something that really should be explained better than it has been. Some particulars on the process would be of great benefit - especially as T10 have been using the "machine-learning AI" line since 2005 and it's actually pretty hard to distinguish what they've said with each successive game from each other.

On that topic it's also been quite good fun to look at some of Dan Greenawalt's tyre/suspension physics statements ahead of older games, particularly FM7, after seeing the tyre model in Esaki's presentation

Would you be willing to share this (ACC controller) setting? ❤️
Sure. Sorry for the off topic guys.

I am using this: https://solox.gg/how-to-play-acc-with-controller/
Sounds bizarre, with 35% deadzone, but what it basically does is to encourage you not to make constant small adjustments while ensuring that cornering works great. And the steer assist setting allows you to survive nasty snap oversteer moments, so I leave it on.

I ended up reducing the deadzone to 15%, but any lower and it gets too manic.
This setup works great for cornering and generally driving, but you are occasionally frustrated during long straights since tiny adjustments are a bit tricky. Still, it's a small price to pay for that feeling of stability in the rest of the lap.

If you find something better, feel free to post it in the ACC controller thread!

Yeah, I'm sceptical about the >1000 hours figure as well. Hope the game doesn't prove us wrong.
They said 2-3 hours per car in the last but one Forza Monthly. They've said over 500 cars at launch, so that's over 1000 hours.

Thank you! I am doing those settings when I get home. Anything to make it feel closer to FM7, the happier I will be.

We don't yet know if all 500 cars have the same upgrade system. Perhaps race cars will get a limited set of homologation parts, or be BoP balanced in their classes as stock...

Iirc the '2-3 hours' was to reach max level (lvl 50) for a single car. All parts are unlocked by level 30 with the conversions and swaps being the last ones to get unlocked. This apparently takes about an hour or so.

I found "built from the ground up" more than once in my old FM7 news thread.

In fact, the thread and quotes are an interesting read now with the power of hindsight, especially around features that never made it into the game.

What @skazz said. We don't know whether they'll keep the earning rate the same for all cars or whether the various bonuses suggested in previous posts will enable people to level up faster. That's what I'm sceptical about, not your arithmetic.

I would imagine that the earning rate would change depending on amount of assists and level of difficulty of a given race in the same way that credits have worked thus far in the previous games. The June showcase I think showed it a little bit.

In all fairness I think quite a few people including myself were looking forward to drag racing in the Motorsport series since what they added in FM7 seemed to hint at a far more in-depth experience than what is in Horizon.

I'm not too bothered by it not being present at launch though.
T10 is doing pretty well carving out a spot for the Forza franchise. You have Horizon for casual racing fans, and you have rFactor GTR2 Automobilista iRacing Assetto Corsa Forza Motorsport for the more hardcore racing crowd.

Thanks, I wasn't aware all upgrades were unlocked before the max level. It still feels like a pointless impediment to playing the game, but driving games with grinding to unlock things do seem to have more players, e.g. FH5 on Steam has about 4x the peak daily concurrent player count of ACC, so I guess it has some appeal to a lot of people.

not looking forward to seeing "You are ignoring content by this member" every other comment lol. it is what it is
The member in question literally comes and goes. You probably won't even see him posting much in here.
By this point those 360 models are also older than the 2001 standard models that showed up in a 2009 game .
Gran Turismo was literally copying and pasting those models to the point you had 2 significantly different tiers of car models. The game itself separated the cars into different categories & only a quarter of the car list fell into Premium category.

The X360 models are an extremely small fraction of the overall list and still easily blend in with the rest of the cars unless you know what you're looking for.

You're not pointing out any hypocrisy, you're just posting with the intent of believing you've had some "gotcha" moment before you continue posting back in the GT section. Even attempting to see some similarity in what you're pointing out, it's a flipped case for FM where the higher quality cars far out number the X360 cars unlike GT5's 200/800 list.

From what I understood they will drip the upgrades as you level up. There are 50 car levels, and 100+ upgrade parts, so let's assume you get a few upgrade parts every level.

I think people will make a sport out of it. "You can make this upgrade at car level 23" for example.
Or a challenge: "how fast can I make the car at upgrade level 20?"

As I understand it ACC is a lot more fun when modded. Maybe the Horizon players prefer having fun stuff to do in game rather than having to search it out for themselves?

They also said that you unlock all the parts a good bit before level 50 as well. I just cant remember exactly what was said and when. Think it was somewhere around level 30?

I wonder if it would be anything like "Car Mastery" in Forza Horizon 5 (less the crazy items).

yes, they mentioned that all performance upgrades would be available by level 30 (1 hour of driving), and the engine or drivetrain swaps would be closer to level 50 (up to 3 hours of driving).

But I remain sure they will tune all that based on community and play tester feedback in the coming months. So let's just wait and see what it becomes... and how it gets changed soon after launch if there's negative feedback...

While its a system I'm not too fond of, I don't think it'll bother me too much. I remember one of the screen grabs at the end of a race with the driver using the new Z, the player was barely level 4 but already about level 20-25 for car level. Knowing that, and knowing these showcases don't exactly have the best drivers, I think I'll manage just fine.

The most suitable Hot Wheels car for FM8 would be the Bad to the Blade.

Imagine fast-paced one-make racing with it, it would make for extremely competitive open-wheel racing, and that is definitely Motorsport at its very core. I don't mind the other Hot Wheels cars not making it at launch, but the Bad to the Blade is a must-have as it definitely fits the theme and spirit of Motorsport.
Could enjoy these in virtual 1:1 scale, a 15 car DLC that fits the Motorsport circuit racing theme with minimal licencing issues, maybe?

One interesting fact in this video from Colteastwood, is that all the footage we have been seeing is from the 4k performance on Xbox Series X and there will be multiple performance and quality modes.

If they are so few why can't they upgrade them after nearly 15+ years? There is a difference between turning the largest car roster ever in a video game for 2009 to premium vs by your own words , upgrading a small amount of cars . The same ancient models have been used in 7 games . That's pure lazyness .

Doesn't this game have static time of day too !

I don't even think this game is going to be bad , it's just hilarious seeing people mame excuses for it.

How many people cried that GT didn't have engine swaps or drag racing for YEARS when GT never had those to begin with , but all of a sudden when Forza loses drag racing it's cool guys , no big deal .

Mark my words this game is gonna have a small event list and it's going to be defended by the same people who were complaining about it in sport and 7 .

So, hold on a second.

Forza's X360 models are on the same level as GT using 2001 assets in a 2009 game, but that's "excused" by Forza fans. Now, GT actually had a valid "excuse" for doing that, but it's still bad for Forza.

Goodness, you really shotgunned your whole claim about "hypocrisy" right off the ankle....

Congratulations, you'll find no disagreement here & from others. It's likely a case of sourcing the car again & having to completely remodel it, where as the developers feel that effort is better spent doing new cars b/c the X360 models have been touched up over time and still pass.
Doesn't this game have static time of day too !
I'm pretty sure they put out a video showcasing the day/weather change.
I don't even think this game is going to be bad , it's just hilarious seeing people mame excuses for it.
As opposed to how sad this effort from you has been showcasing complete ignorance & false equivalency?

I'm sure there's an actual difference in how both developers have handled that. Forza's dev though, has literally said it will not be in at launch, which means it is coming. So, it's hasn't been "lost".
Mark my words this game is gonna have a small event list and it's going to be defended by the same people who were complaining about it in sport and 7 .
The same way it's going to be bitched about by you regardless, you mean.

This will be the first forza i wont buy at launch, it just dosen’t get me excited and cutting drag and drift that has been part of franshise since forever should not happen with a game that been in works for 6 years. The crew motorfest i will buy at day one through

Then don’t, it’s better without all that crap. If you want all that in, go play Horizon. This is Motorsports. I hope they NEVER put it in.

This was a large part of the trailers and what they showed off on stream so far. The fact that you don't know this tells me it's entirely safe to disregard the rest of your whining as trolling, you clearly don't actually know much about the game that hasn't even released.

The game has full 24 hour dynamic time of day on every track, by the way. Same with weather, every track. Can't say the same about Gran Turismo.

Forzas Xbox 360 models are big time much better than Gran Turismo's standard models.

Not only does T10 able to polish them for todays gen they actually in my opinion not look bad at all.

What really breaks the deal for me is the cars we lost like the 1st gen Lamborghini Gallardo and the 1st gen Murcielago along with the Ferrari 360 Modena.

So many cars we lost then again T10 can actually polish them with new technology even from the 360 era I say go ahead it should be done.

ACC doesn't have mods. AC does which is why it's still popular despite its age.

If there is going to be only "track" racing, im expecting ALL LMH/LMDH cars, ALL DTM cars, ALL GT3LM Cars, ALL GT500 cars, ALL TRC cars, ALL IMSA cars, ALL NASCAR cars, ALL ETCR Trucks, ALL GT4 Cars, and the base boring street versions too i guess...

And ofcourse from Nordshleife (idk how to writte it) to Imola, passing throught Daytona and Indianapolis, and not forgeting Silverstone, Monaco, Monza, Spa, Montmello, Lemans, Suzuka, Bathurst, even Laguna Seca or why not Hockhemhein Ring

Since you are not adding any "not track racing"
I EXPECT THE ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, of the WAY
smaller quantity of Categories you have now

It Isn't a problem of money after all, we are talking about THE GREAT MICROSOFT THAT LOVES TO BUY EVERYTHING BCAUSE THEY HAVE LOTS OF MONEY RIGHT?

Well... Microsoft Xbox, then why not for the first time in your pityfull life, you actually use you money to something valuable and useful instead of throwing into the trash making buys that nobody cares and make terrible games years later

(cough RedFall cough Fallout 76 cough lazy mojang cough starfield in a 24 year old graphic engine cough FH 3,4 & 5 cough doom eternal (repetitive, worse than 2016, and terrible story, still decent, but not PERFECT) cough We Happy Few cough Halo Infinite (bruh took fricking years to come and its halo 5 levels, not halo 4, but 1,2 & 3 are better and the game was not finished on launch)

i don't want the MODERN GAMING STANDARD has
I EXPECT THE QUALITY MODERN GAMING

S H O U L D H A V E

Sigh. Gamers™.

I can't even make fun of this. It's literally someone saying they expect perfection and nothing less.

Honestly it's amazing, in a this exhibit is strange, curious, and should be put in a museum kind of amazing.

Thanks. I guess that'd give casual PC players even more reason to play Horizon instead on Steam. Seems kinda weird for @breeminator to suggest the primary reason that game is more popular on the platform than ACC is because it's "grindier". Perhaps the reason is as straightforward as its having a shallower learning curve on controller?

It's hard to believe a post demanding absolute perfection has so many typos. Maybe English isn't @FurryestX's first language but it's kind of odd to expect even "the great Microsoft" to be able to license every current race car in existence when that decision lies in the hands of the people who own those licences.

I dont quite understand your logic there the game is not better without drag or drift modes, fm4 witch is the best game in series by far, had drag mode, and also option to choise the ai cars witch has not been in forza since fm4, only thing they need to do is to have 1/4 mile strip, drag tyres is already in the game at launch, so its clear it will come after launch you would not even be effected by it, drag racing is one kind of motorsport just as racing on circuit just a different one, and besides horizon was never as good for drag racing as motorsport becouse of lack of grip, and not been able to have proper strip and no countdown timer for starts,

this is valid complaint considering this has been in works for 6 years, same with reused inaccurate 360 car models, still being carried over in a game thats supose to be a reboot, and why does not even this game going to have animated pitstops other than multiplayer it dosen’t make much sense, i dont see the hype with this game, they have not done a good job marketing this game at all, i use to be hyped for most previous forza titles, but this just dosen’t, i am still going to buy it but not on day one i rather wait until i see those features added back in,

I'm the opposite. I'm more hyped for this game than I was for FM7 after the latest showcase demonstration and, while I understand why potential buyers are disappointed with those car models they didn't update, I'm glad they decided to spend the development time on fundamental systems like AI and tyre physics which affect the driving experience and providing a circuit based career mode to give us a reason to play the game, instead of cosmetic or peripheral changes like pitstop animations and drag events which can be added after launch if the demand is there.

I haven't put my pre-order down yet but if the remaining videos are as revelatory and encouraging as the last one I think I'll be more likely to want to start playing as soon as possible. Hopefully Chris Esaki and his team'll continue the trend of comparing the game with the previous version to demonstrate exactly where the bulk of that six year development time has gone and why it's likely to offer more replayabilty than FM4's static time of day and lack of weather conditions.
