And why did they wait so long to upgrade the physics anyway?

Because the last gen systems had a weak cpu that could not run this physics engine plain simple. Same as why ACC last gen version has a inferior physics vs pc version.
The CPU in XSX is only 4 times stronger theoretically, which in practical terms means 2-3 times more powerful in real world applications, not exactly a huge upgrade.

So now you are downplaying 400% increase in cpu power?
"With up to 16 threads available on the new consoles, multithreaded performance offers an even larger benefit, at 414% faster in the Series X, and 386% faster in the Series S.
The previous generation consoles were significantly CPU limited, and while this was not always noticeable in gameplay, the new generation should be able to offer much more immersive scenes with more going on at any one time thanks to the major CPU performance increase – even on Series S"

A 4x increase from a 1.6 GHz 2012 netbook CPU is big to you?

Are you trolling or are you serious? The point was that the 2012 netbook cpu was not strong enough for those improvements. Now they have 4x the power to deliver those improvements. Whats so difficult about it? You are just looking for straws at this point. You tryna downplay everything Forza related as usual.

Who says it wasn't strong enough? A 48 times more processor intensive task done on a processor only 4 times stronger. The math doesn't compute, it's marketing speak made to impress simple minds. In reality it's probably not that much heavier compute wise than the previous system and with certain concessions could be made to run on the old CPU. They simply didn't have the incentive to push further until the sales started to drop. Same with the lighting, they saved a lot of CPU/GPU performance by using PS2 era baked shadows until FM8 while the rest of the market moved to dynamic shadow maps 10-15 years ago which are heavy on memory/CPU/GPU yet still the competition produced similar or better graphics/physics/sound.

I mean it takes a strong determination to downplay a full RT Global illumination system, that operates with full time of day and weather changes across all tracks with 24 cars. The same system that can do 4k60 on consoles with RT reflections (and a non RT, GI system as backup). All of which is extremely visible in all the footage released, except for the Nissan Z video (only the gameplay part mind you, the rest of the footage in menus and cutscenes have RTGI at 4k30). Which is still unoptimized code.

Then it takes an even stronger mind to say that people don't feel physics changes that significant, especially when people can notice smaller changes like FH4 to FH5, or FM6 to FM7. This is even more noticeable with a wheel for all these games.

Then you have the whole "jumping from an 8 core 2.3GHz laptop grade cpu to a modern desktop grade 8 core 3.5 Ghz cpu, that provides a 400% improvement in performance". Which is apparently not significant.

On top of that, assuming that the only thing the cpu does is physics calculations? When it also handles ai, audio, weather, temperature, frame data, suspension data etc.

Oh and to forget that fm was one of the very few games to keep its native + 60fps promise up till now regardless of condition, cars or track. The same FM7 that still looks good enough when compared to a modern competitor, while having double the number of cars despite having "PS2 era shadows" and 2d trees (which its competitor still uses". The same FM7 that has similar dynamic time and weather capabilities as it's modern competitor.
The competition definitely left it in the dust (
).

The same FM7 that was flawed because of its progression structure and its online, both of which are addressed by the new game, aside from massive engine improvements.

Yeah, FM seems like a scam to me. Good arguments there.

So I guess it's prohibited to criticize the game in any manner at all, maybe you should put a big disclamer on top of the page. That will solve the problem.

Except what you do isn't criticism. You do anything but from making what are borderline troll comments,
Man the graphics keep looking worse and worse with every new bit of new footage,

Digs b/c people called you out for your piss poor opinions (whilst in the same breath, thinking you've been right all along),
I don't know what's up with you americans always sticking fingers in your ears and pretending everything is fine. Only gonna make you more bitter in the end.

And just out right baseless claims.
This is Turn10's last shot at turning it around before getting closed down

And you've done it this entire year judging by your post history. You come in here & start this same old bull **** and every time, you get blasted for your nonsense. As per your posting routine, you will probably crawl out of here b/c you've once again, instigated everyone and be back just before launch to tell us how the graphics suck, T10 wasted 6 years, so on and so forth. Like the other member, your posts are a predictable, broken record every time you come in here.

The fact that this Doge guy doesn’t even list an Xbox profile on their account tells you everything you need to know
Also, the Doge meme died a few years ago

I honestly think most of the problems with FM7 were due to the upgrade system, as cars felt so much better as stock. (So hope the upgrade system doesn't cause problems this time out too) The thing that excites me most about the new game is the AI, esp if they can keep it consistent across the game and they really do use the same physics as the player.

What makes you say that? Just from the cadence of car reveals?
If I were to guess, it's because it's gamescom week. Makes sense to unveil either the full track list or full car list alongside a new trailer and some gameplay.

It's also where the press would get a chance to play the game, but it seems like it's not happening this year.

Not only that, we're currently at 250 cars revealed, which is just about half of what was promised. The true figure remains unknown, but given they're pushing for that "over 500" mark, I think they can do something within the mid-to-high 500's.

I've been really impressed with what they've done on the physics side of the game. Focusing on circuit racing and ditching drift / drag was a move in the right direction IMO. Hopefully it helps clean up the multiplayer lobbies a little and forces people to drive a little cleaner.

I just can't see myself enjoying it ever since switching to VR. I don't understand why they can't even have proper triple screen support. Is it really that niche? I'm extremely bummed because this will be the first FM title that I won't be buying at launch.

If you have the Ferrari 512 S don't you need to have it's main rival the Porsche 917?
You would hope so, but T10 hasn't been very good at getting/adding rivals like that to the games, especially since the start of the XB1 era.

Can always hope it turns up later in DLC though, as it seems like a pretty obvious thing to include... Although it is kinda weird we got 917 variants but no regular old 917K.

Just kinda rambling on a tangent here but I never was much of a Porsche fan until getting a wheel and playing Assetto Corsa. Previous Forzas have done a bad job with MR and RR cars, making 911s miserable to drive but after using them in more "proper sims" they have grown on me a bit, and I genuinely like the MR Porsches like the 962, 908, RS 60, and so on. The 917K is a frankly pretty terrifying car, somehow I find it scarier than the 1200hp or whatever 917/30.
The Shelby Daytona is there, so it's all good. The 2x credits vip bonus will come in handy there.
I thought it was mentioned somewhere that cars will be much cheaper this time around? Maybe I'm mixing up some news or something though, but I seem to remember a quote about how the cars won't cost millions like in previous games, and the most expensive cars now are just a few hundred thousand.

You could be right, I was just going by experience with FH5 - although I managed to get one dirt cheap in the auction house.

It's not as if any of us here expect it to be perfect. There will be some other game which does pretty much every single aspect better. But this just doesn't matter since we are looking at it as the sum of it's parts and a complete game.

Focusing on negatives in a forum which has no power to change anything is just a waste of everybody's energy. Much better to focus on what we know about it, how it is improving on FM7 and learning from FH5, and whether the end result will be fun to play. That's all that really matters.

The auction house would go against the notion of getting to know your car, I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it again unless they reset car levels when you buy from the AH. I just don't want to see them remove features like that again, like back in FM5.
