Solid list for one of my favourite categories. But I do hope this isn't all as I am missing a couple of cars that would really shine in Forza Motorsport:
  • 1953 Jaguar C-Type (in Horizon 4)
  • 1964 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight (in both Horizon 4 and Horizon 5)
  • 1966 Jaguar XJ13 (in Horizon 5)
  • 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 (in Forza Motorsport 7 and Horizon 4)
  • 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS (In Forza Motorsport 7)

have a feeling we will get the full car list next week.
Could very well be, or they might finish with the cars that are not new to Forza and will continue to unveil a handful of new to Forza cars in the weeks following Gamescom.

I have a feeling we will get the full car list next week.
There has a Monthly left before the launch so who knows
I am more curious about paint customization, nothing talked yet about the paint, we will be able to FINNALY paint the windshields?

Painting windshields would be quite nice, maybe I could even get over the 360 models persisting if I could finally put stickers on the windows.

The track YouTube clips are still coming... Le Mans:

RT is enabled here.

However there seems to be a visual glitch where the underside of the car is unnaturaly lit up. This is some of the footage in the Dev Direct video (i wonder if its similar to the edges of the tires having a white outline like in fh5 at launch or in some of the fm footage). Hope its fixed at launch.

Also they need to stop drowning out the car sounds with music.

It simply doesn´t look very good. I´m sorry, it just does not.

I´m beginning to wonder what they´ve been doing all these years.

Game must have been in development hell.

This certainly does not look like the big reboot I´ve been hoping for and they´ve been hyping this up to be.

Still looking forward to it, but it wasn´t coming to GamePass I´d take a wait and see approach here.

I saw a rumor on the official forums (before running away in disgust) that FM2023 might have 2 modes:
  • Quality: includes RT while driving
  • Performance: no RT while driving

Not sure of the impact of this setting on hitting and sustaining 4k@60 or on things like aliasing and pop-in (which usually take a hit in performance modes to stay at locked frame rates). Since I don’t believe they are aiming for less than 60fps locked in either mode?

Maybe the RT mode uses FSR up scaling whereas non-RT mode uses their own resolution scaling tech?

Whoops :D Thanks for the lesson (and for beating my edit as usual).

Are you sure that's Daytona? Because this chicane from the Le Mans video looks very similar to me:

If I were to guess, their track reference data is probably from 2021 or older, whereas the Daytona branding came in 2022. Since it's "just" an environment decal though, might make it in a patch or build update before launch.

There's also the very real possibility that track signage has not been finalised/approved yet, that's something I've seen change on F1 a few times pre-release.

We don't know how far in advance these clips were recorded, it's usually a few weeks minimum for OEM approval, plus production time, track capture readiness etc.

Does this suggestion sound any good? I think it could potentially add a way to balance the grind, if necessary, without full changing the rate of earning car xp or car level XP requirements.

There is a seemingly massive backlash against the time requirements for the car level system. In game, seemingly, it is fed by race wins and corner mastery. A lot feel that this system, while addressing the “connection to the car” aspect, limits the openness of the past forza games.

As such, I propose a Sponsor system. A system that rewards the player for doing mini challenges, as per sponsors picked by the player, such as:

  • Qualify higher than X
  • Finish higher than X
  • Overtake X cars
  • Complete a race with X assist off/on
  • Perfect 3 corners
  • Hit X Mph
and so on. As for rewards, these can be anything from:
  • Simple 2x or 1.5x Multiplier to Car XP
  • Credits (e.g… +1000Cr.)
  • Driver Gear
  • Badges
  • Sponsor Stickers (of the fictional variety)
  • Forza Edition cars (or cars with specialized liveries)
Of course, the sponsors can be fictional, of which a lot can be seen in the footage so far.
IF this sounds familiar, then it is because it is a slightly altered version of the Mod cards system. Instead of buying mods, you can just have challenges you pick under the name of your sponsor. THese can be tiered similar to FH’s star system. Where, for example, Finishing 3rd is 1 star, 2nd is 2 stars and 1st is 3 stars. More stars means more rewards. They key differences that these can’t be bought, and that these do not give the player advantages during a race (like additional grip).
This does mean that players will have the choice of picking the challenges that they are comfortable with, instead of buying mod packs. This can work well with the “career” aspect of the player too.

This will add additional incentive to take risks, and add variety to gameplay loops, while theoretically being familiar to the developers.

As a smaller note, Manufacturer affinity could be brought back to add simple boosts to Car XP and credits, or to just add a discount to the next car from that manufacturer that can be purchased by the player, alongside driver gear and badges.

Coming from a simpleton (me), are you saying that a game development team has someone who monitors promotional signs on the tracks that are created to see if changes happen during production? So if a banner on a bridge at Road America changes from Goodyear to Bridgestone 90 days before launch (or even post launch), someone on the game dev team is notified?

I plan on waiting until I actually play the game to determine if upgrading cars is too much of a grind. I have the VIP package, so I don't know if the 2X Boost impacts the car upgrading.

tldr: yes (not their sole job, but somebody would be checking these things)

In the case of F1, it’s likely more that the previous year’s signage locations are used for the first pass, and then when F1 lock down the signage locations for the current season, they get updated accordingly in-game.

There’s also the aspect of whether or not some sponsors are allowed to feature in the games their commercial agreements with the sport end abruptly, new sponsors get added to the global partner list etc. For example, Emirates used to be the official airline of Formula 1 and now it’s Qatar Airways. That has knock-on effects for the track signage.

I imagine it’s more of a deal for F1 than Forza though (because it’s the official game of an individual race series), if you look at a circuit on a regular track day vs when F1 is in town, the amount of signage that’s erected trackside is enormous.

I would love to have the job of making sure all the assets are current!
