It'd be nice to have somebody specifically quiz Chris Esaki about the omission of single-player qualification in interview. Too bad GTPlanet has what is probably a Microsoft-prohibited phrase in its name :D as otherwise it'd be great if someone from the site were to be invited to pin them down with a list of our biggest questions. I guess most of them'll be answered after release, though. At the very least, it'd be great if they were to have a truly flexible custom event creator with the option of race weekends and championships with user-selected AI.

Challenge The Grid, while a poor substitute for the above at least as far as hardcore racing fans are concerned, seems like an attempt to overhaul the card based betting system of earlier Forzas to create a constantly adjustable risk/reward system. In practice I'll probably be using it to start as far up the field as the game says is still likely to net me a first place but'll try and push it back further as my skills improve with the new driving model.

I think their choice to let you pick your starting spot for the career, but to offer full race weekends elsewhere is fine. Take Codemasters GRiD 2019/Legends - they offer a skippable qualification option during the career followed by a short 2-4 lap race. I bet 99% of players just skip the qualification and start from lower down the grid. FM2023 will have slightly longer races, but it's the same principle.

Assuming full race weekend in multiplayer, the only real question is whether you can enable a full race weekend and variable race length when playing single races against the AI. I assume you can, so players who want to simulate race weekends can do so, just outside the career mode. But those laps will still earn credits and car XP, so it's all good.

Has AI in private multiplayer sessions been confirmed yet? If so then it'd be a good compromise as I said in my previous post provided players could get used to the lack of rewind.

I don't really mind qualifying not being there for career mode, it'snot something I expected it to have as other games of this type tend not to either. The fact there is a practice function and "Challenge The Grid", makes up for it in my opinion.

Trouble with qualifying sessions in any game that features them in single player is there are many issues which plague them and kills enjoyment a lot of the time. F1, MotoGP, Grid, ACC, pCars, all have suffered various issues in qualifying sessions. Whether it's unbalanced AI (either too fast or too slow relative to chosen difficulty), unbalanced/made up times (especially when fast-forwarding or skipping to end of sessions), poor application of rules (blocking etc). So it can be a chore as much as it can be a good addition, plus for a lot of games, it exists because the series being simulated has it.

As has been mentioned as well, for the more casual player or players with less time in hand to play, it's an extra thing that just isn't adding anything other than some XP.

I find it is a great method to replace the old card system, (for me) it grows the sandbox factor and i could try diifferent types of racing

I think that you will see the time of other drivers on pratice, so you could use it as qualifying as well

I think that obivusly start in first will give you less than start in last, the difference growing even more as difficulty goes harder

First look at the FM2023 Homespace! (No audio)

Oh...bummer...looks like headlights will still look very off. I'm not gonna act like it's the end of the world like some individuals that have posted in this thread, but it's very annoying to me since I photograph cars quite a bit. The metals look way better this time around though.

This was one of my concerns too, but those unlit headlights in the video look pretty good to me on a decent high resolution screen. Better than the lit ones on the admittedly low res video from FH5.

I was wondering if you were perhaps viewing the video on a screen with low brightness and not seeing the detail maybe?

Noticing that the 917LH has Goodyear tires compared to the Firestone tyres that it regularly had in FH5/FH4.

Are we gonna get licensed tires as customization options?
I wish they would just do like Midnight Club 3 and allow you to customize the sidewall type (red line, whitewall, white letter, etc.) and just have the white letter option have enterable text so they don’t have to worry about licensing.

They looked stellar to me when I watched it.

Finally a change away from the darkness of the garage in FM7. Much preferred the home spaces in 4/5/6 because they were nice and bright with sun streaming in through the windows. A home space might not be the games main selling point but sometimes I leave the home space on in the background whilst I do other stuff away from gaming. Like a wallpaper.

Hopefully I’ll have a series S by release date (it’s all I can afford at this stage). From what I’ve seen so far I’m cautiously optimistic.

I had no idea about this until today, but this just sucks. When are people going to stop pretending that the Series S isn’t holding gaming back?

This game just went from a “must buy” to something I’ll just try on game pass.

Why do you want to gain an advantage? Isn't it better for everyone to be equal?

What does this have to do with the Series S? It's a game engine limitation, if anything. Plus, consoles will be the majority of the player base, so it (kinda) makes sense that t10 is prioritizing protecting them.

I can’t think of a single racing game that caps it at 60 on pc. The Series x is capable of more frames too.

It’s not about gaining an advantage either. I just want the game to run as smoothly as possible. I like to get as many fps as I can in racing games, even if it means I have to lower the graphic settings.

What about someone playing on a 5k sim rig or ultra wide gaming monitor, isn’t that an advantage?

This “equal playing field” reason is garbage, imo there must be a technical reason like something to do with timing

As Hokihoshi mentioned, FH5 has some issues with cross play between Xbox and PC related to frame rates. So this appears to be a preventative measure related to how the Forza engine works during cross platform multiplay. Obviously PC frame rates are unlocked during single player gameplay.

Besides, how many other racing games actually support cross play during multiplayer races between PC and Xbox?

Title: "Players are cancelling pre-orders"

Not denying that people would cancel of course but this article seems like a classic example of taking a small volume and making it sound like a big one. Like how some "news" sites proclaim that "people are upset" and then you find out it's only 2 people. 🤔

My theory on the framerate thing is that their network sync rate is probably 60 times per second, so if people play on different framerates they could be sending different things to the server, thus introducing more lag and positional variation (a thing which does happen in Forza Horizon 5), leading to unnecessary car collisions.

It was a thing in F1 2021, esports players brought it up a lot.

I think one reason some people appear upset is because the explanation Turn 10 gave was too vague and not really helpful. Yes it's "to ensure there is a fair and level playing field", cool (and I'm ok with it), but saying how would have avoided any controversy, I feel.

Yeah I don’t really care about that part of the article, but the locked fps part was new to me.

It's a small list, though I'm probably missing a few:

  • DIRT 5
  • F1 23
  • F1 22
  • GRID Legends
  • NFS Unbound
  • NFS Heat
  • NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
  • The Crew Motorfest
  • Forza Motorsport 7
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Forza Horizon 5

DiRT Rally 2.0 only supports asynchronous cross-platform play (leaderboards essentially), as do DiRT 4 and DiRT Rally.
