Have to say, the game either needed more polish or desperately needs drivers. 30-40 FPS, at 1080p, without RT, on an RTX3070 is not acceptable.
Update on this. My Nvidia GeForce Experience wasn't notifying me of a new driver update, so I went to look if, by any chance, there was something more recent. There was. Even though it didn't say if it contained updates for Forza Motorsport, I installed it anyway, to see if there were improvements. And yes, there clearly were, a few stutters here and there but the FPS is stable now and I even have Ray-tracing on. So, even if you don't have notifications for a driver update, do check, because it can help majorly.

I hope all that forced ray tracing was worth it though!
The game clearly has some major issues at launch which need to be addressed asap but I don't think the raytracing is forced. I'm planning to do most of my playing in Performance mode which has no raytracing on Series X.

Do the new FH4/FH5 photomode and livery editor improvements make it into FM? It'd honestly be baffling if they didn't.

Seriously, what is up with the regression on features and QoL from previous games?! It has the exact same issues as for example Call of Duty games - a new iteration comes out and with less features as the previous version, that are then slowly added back in again as updates?

I'm starting to believe it's by design, that some secret metrics show that updating the game over time to be on par with the previous one, hold more engagement over time.. It's infuriating.

What I've noticed is missing:
  • Wheel offset upgrades
  • Camera control in menus (some can just orbit around, some are even fully static)
  • Photo mode lacking features/improvements
  • Livery editor missing features and has limited camera control
  • No creative hub
  • No auction house
  • Can't add cars as Favorites in the garage
  • Can't sort cars by Latest in garage
  • Can't select our preferred units for speed, weight and horsepower, only between metric and imperial (HOW are we back to this?! We mostly use HP, KM/H and KG here, never KW)
  • No HP/TQ graphs
  • No AI cars in private MP lobbies
  • No way to change race length in Career
  • No drift scoring
  • Considerably less content in Career
Not to mention all the cars that are removed..

I'm sure I missed more than one thing, so let me know..

Isn’t it forced in the menus regardless of settings?

I turned RT off, set res scaling to 110, and bumped car detail to ultra, the trade-off was worth it, looks nice and crisp now and the cars look great

I found this on my first play, the graphics were terrible and stuttering like mad, looking worse than a game from 2010 before I ran out of time at lunch. However, updating the graphics card drivers, rebooting my PC, restarting FM all fixed these issues and I'm running medium/high 2520x1080 ultrawide at a rock steady 60fps on a Ryzen 5600/1660 Super.

I might, however, in between tries of playing it, have accidentally bought a 4060ti.... :embarrassed::D

Well, going out tonight (wife wanted to see a play lol)
So Ive got things to do and only spent time trying the first races/practice, therefore not yet conclusive..

For those interested:
Based on what is currently one of the best AMD system PC specs available for gamming.
A completely new build heres the early findings

Btw, steam unpacking took about 8 minutes on this setup.
Ive noticed loading times are very fast too compared to my previous PC.

Setting game to custom and everything I could see to MAX quality (need to check with others) and at the moment just on my G7 2560x1440 monitor and with no FSR enabled.

SPECS:
AMD 7800X3D
Sapphire Nitro 7900XTX
32GB Dominator Titanium RAM (6000 EXPO CAS30)
Corsair MP700 2TB

It was hitting around high 70s - 80s fps, which I expect may be around 20+ fps lower than a 4090.
Will be more interested to see how it plays on my G9 in 32:9 but I think the game offers plenty of options to help get a balance of visuals and performance. We will have to see in time what options for PC users help give an ideal balance based on peoples different specs.

Interested to share with others like for like settings later....
Game looked great and yeah damn the positional audio is indeed superb.

Masking is in, setting the matte effect of vinyls not only isn’t, but any cars you painted that way won’t import.

Also you don’t have the Hot Wheels Spectraflame paint colours but that’s to be expected.

Haven’t tried photo mode but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was identical to Forza Motorsport 7.

They built it from the ground up, so its going to take a while to re-write the code 😄

So, I reinstalled Motorsport again, and this stays. I wonder if this is part of the bugs that Forza Support mentioned, or if I've done something worse.

6 years. 6 whole years...I don't get it

It's certainly not got the new FH5 features.

Glad I am a console gamer 😬

They are "stickier" this time. Not really like the "Forza glue" from FM7 really, but there is some impact absorption going on instead of the pinball effect of the early games where it feels like you just transfer all of your energy into them and send them flying.

You will get to experience the collision physics very quickly when you fire the game up because the AI is awful.

Just did a 6 lap race at Lime Rock, still with the AI setting on the highest difficulty. Multiple cars crashed going onto the back "straight" by understeering off into the wall... and not by a little bit, like a full 8 car widths off the track and face-first in the barriers, not even close to making the corner. At least 5 cars pitted as well, and one car I actually put 2 laps down. During a 6 lap, approximately 6 minute long race. Also, for some reason, on the last lap one of the AI was just stopped in the grass next to the track on the exit of turn 1, like they had just pulled up to park because they didn't want to drive anymore.

But hey, instead of finishing 5 seconds behind 1st place and 5 seconds ahead of 3rd, this time I won by a whopping 12 seconds.

Seriously, the AI is so bad that I'm wondering if they didn't screw up the day 1 patch and have reverted us to that preview-copy, early build AI.
I wonder if you need to restart your gaming device. I haven't had any of those AI issues on my Series X.
I haven’t encountered big problems with the AI
Yeah, it's been pretty solid here too. I have some great saved replays too. It's fun to watch.

I haven't had any of those AI issues on my Series X.
I play entirely on XSX (only turned on the PC for a wheel handling/FFB test) and my review is based upon that.

I have endless videos of cretinous AI behaviour - from boneheadedly braking off the grid start rather than moving into 30 yards of clear space to keep momentum and make the pass, to smashing each other off, to single-file chains because they're so easy to block, to just being scared right off the track, to totally inappropriate braking (I nearly hit one at Maple Valley on AI 8 because they came to almost a full stop at the third-last corner), and ploughing into me while by the side of the track after being spun and on the racing line just because.

This was one of the first races in "Built for Sport", with AI set to 6:

Yikes, that blows. I will have to see if that ends up happening to me as I get further into the game.

Not to mention split screen and the ability to select between manufacturer car-specific colors for rental cars, as well as to do basic tuning to their default setup.

On a separate topic, anyone got good wheel settings for the CSL DD (GT DD Pro) on Xbox?
I'll put mine up when I get home from work. Was pretty happy by the time I adjusted many many times, but you know, everyone has different preference for the wheel. I am on 8nm.

I got really really bad oscillation, especially in the Honda Multiplayer Qualifier Car.

I know I am running the following settings on the CSL DD base.

Fanatec control menu settings:

SEN: 720

FF: 100

FFS: Linear (yes linear is correct) - FFB is a little less than peak and also feels better turning the wheel.

NDP: Off

NFR: Off

NIN: 12

INT: 12

FEI: 50

FOR: 85 or Preference (Can't rememeber off the top of my head)

SPR: 85 or Preference (Can't rememeber off the top of my head)

DPR: 85 or Preference (Can't rememeber off the top of my head)

In Game Settings that I can remember

Vibration: 75

FFB Scale: 175

SSA: 80

Mechanical Trail: 135

Pneumatic Trail: 135

Road Scale Feel: 100

Load Sensitivity: 75

Wheel Damping Scale: 20

Center Spring: 5

Dynamic Damper: 20

I would try this and adjust the last 3 until you find the wheel weight you are looking for. Like I said, when I get, I'll take some pictures and upload my setting but I think these are all pretty close.

Feel free to drop some feedback. I know it's not perfect but curious to know anyway. I'll also be offering tunes through these settings moving forward. I actually already have one uploaded which is the '09 Focus RS - No Aero. Keyword for all tunes will be ROWDY

This would make a good thread for generations to come to find, and set up their wheels.

Everyone's favoured settings per wheel.

I forgot to mention Steering Sensitivity should be moved up to 60. I feel like the wheel isn't very responsive and this seemed to help a good bit.
