Some interpreted the "focus on motorsport" talk and how they discussed the new tracks were built for good racing first and foremost to suggest that the graphical showcase tracks from the last few titles wouldn't be returning. Probably add in some wishful thinking in there too.

Personally, I'd much rather see them update the old FM1 circuits over nonsense like Bernese Alps and Prague. The original FM1 tracks were actually good for racing, and sadly Maple Valley is the only one we have and it was pretty easily the worst of them.

Rio grew on me, although the FRR update took all the fun out of the chicane, and if they could figure out how to squeeze a pitlane onto Rio Mini it would make a fantastic track for stuff like MX5 Cup and Ginetta Juniors. Dubai was mostly bad, but the "City" layout was actually pretty great for racing, particularly with stuff like touring cars. Needed a skilled group though, as unfortunately it had a few deathtrap areas that would often cause crashes with clumsier drivers, but that could be easily fixed by moving a barrier or something. I guess I wouldn't be too disappointed with those coming back but I'd still put them below everything from FM1 and Sedona.
Damn I miss Rio too that was a great track. I remember that downhill section where your speed climbs quick the helicopter would fly above and you just look at all the scenery on the right side. Perfect track

It was fun to drive, especially before the FRR update it was super satisfying to put in a hot lap... It was pretty cheesy how you could cut it before FRR, but that chicane after the downhill chute into the left hander with the tire wall (where everyone died) was great the way you could jump final kerb all 4 wheels in the air and land into a slide right up near the angled wall on the left... one of the most satisfying corners in the game, like the exit of the Gold Coast chicane on steroids. Unfortunately FRR neutered it, but it was probably for the best as it did make things safer there... for the few people who survived that death tire wall before it anyways.

...But it wasn't very good for racing really, especially not for the average public lobby players. Narrow and bumpy is a tough mix even for skilled drivers, but then you add in walls (and a few of them with hit box issues) and some fairly extreme speeds in a few spots with the downhill stuff and it was an absolute disaster in public lobbies... And you know they would put it in GT3 and Touring Car divisions too, not just E class or whatever (speaking of E class, the Ginetta Junior would be fantastic there though, but then where isn't the Junior fantastic?) where it might actually be safe-ish. If their focus is on tracks that race well, you really can't count Rio on that list.

Unfortunately, the driving standard in the new game hasn't improved at all, as I've been starkly reminded the last day or two when I've done a few public lobby races where I didn't have time to qualify. The nonsense that goes on outside of the top 4 places... it's shocking, occasionally hilarious, and depressing. We will, for sure, never have nice things when the driving standard is this abysmal.

Adding in a deathtrap that would jump straight to meme status and likely be avoided by everyone in public lobbies doesn't seem like the best use of their time. It would take a ton of changes to make the full version of Rio into something that isn't a deathtrap, to the point it probably wouldn't be recognizable anymore. FM1 Rio would probably be a better starting point for a sensible, versatile circuit.

Things I HOPE to see in the next update(s):
- Improved AI with reduced aggressiveness towards you and among themselves, and also with more sense to when to pit in endurance races (some sense of strategy, at least)
-Fix the bug where an AI spontaneously switch liveries
-Ability to switch those horrible grey backgrounds, just like in the livery mode
-Photo mode like in FH5
-New graphical mode on PC (RTGI for those rigs that can)
-Switch to a better upscaler in the Xbox consoles (FSR 3.0 or 3.1) and frame generation
-More F1 cars of the 1976 season
-More F1 cars of the 1990 season because pitting the MP4/4 vs the 641 has never made much sense (or more cars of the 1989 season)
-With the dynamic weather/improved physics/pit stops, I wouldn't mind the return of the Bernese Alps and Rio (balcony view included)
-Lastly, I hope the Forza aero pieces do not outlive me

That's it from the top of my head, c'mon T10, the update will land close to my birthday!!!

I wonder if we will get Logitech True Force implemented in the next update since it was mentioned in one of the road map posts. I was looking over my wheel settings and noticed that the vibration scale setting was greyed out, so the game at least recognizes my wheel has it.

Wow, you've got a great wishlist for the next update! I completely agree with improved AI behavior, especially in endurance races. The livery bug fix and customizable backgrounds are long overdue. A photo mode like FH5 would be amazing! The graphical updates for PC and Xbox consoles would be a huge boost. And, of course, more F1 cars from the 70s and 90s would be incredible! The return of Bernese Alps and Rio would be a great addition too. Fingers crossed that T10 delivers on some of these features for your birthday update!

I presume this is a bug or is it intentional?
Whereas the voiceover at the end of the race used to be "Well done, you finished P1", it's now "Well done...." for me.
I hope it's intentional - I always found Lil LapLap (after her slightly muffled "Last Lap!" quote) as annoying and contributing almost nothing to the game, apart from taking partial credit for my own victories (the quote being "Well done, WE finished P1"... no disembodied voice, WE didn't do anything, I did.)

Speaking of road map updates, we should be coming up on one come next month, maybe? Hopefully a few of their notes will include work on the career mode structure/events including the reward car debacle and plans to address engine audio in one big update. Wishful thinking I know but they have previously touched on multiplayer, AI which is still ongoing, car progression and a few others.

It’s not out of the question, but I reckon the focus will be on getting all of the remaining real-world tracks from Forza Motorsport 7 in first before expanding with new/original content.

There’s not many left:
  • Monza
  • Bathurst
  • Road Atlanta
  • Long Beach
  • Circuit of the Americas
  • Sonoma
I've mixed feelings about this.

I'm excited to get all of those tracks back in the game. Having variable weather and time of day means many of the old tracks feel almost brand new. The new physics also makes them feel much better to drive compared to before.

On the other hand, with the current cadence of having tracks added to the game (one track every two months), that means another whole year before we are possibly getting new tracks that haven't been present in the franchise before.

So, yeah. Mixed feelings indeed.

I'm with you, im not ungrateful for what they are doing with the older tracks they look and feel the best of any FM before this. At first it seemed like T10 would bring back a track every month for the whole year which would have been great. But as we see several months have been skipped and it's basically been confirmed they are doing a track every other month now. I was holding out hope they would put out at least 1 new to FM track before the years over but I doubt it now. Maybe this time next year we can have something like a Zolder, Paul Ricard or CTMP added to the game.

Could we at least get a post on X with maybe a preview for Monday? T10 is not very transparent with its community. Instead we get posts about a Mustang GT at a discounted price. Or a reminder about a Rival event.

I really wonder how many are actually on staff at Turn 10 currently.

I wonder that too. If they are indeed short staffed I can't necessarily fault them for certain things regarding this game ( like bug fixes and features. They are doing their best there) but at the same time they know where things are lacking ( content, communication). It shouldn't pain them to really hone in on those areas in the coming months.

I can't find it now, but I recently saw an article where it was made clear that FM is a long term live service game, there's no sequel coming any time soon. So a year from now to have all the real world tracks that were in FM7 is in a sense not that much time relative to the planned lifespan of the game. I see parallels with the long term approach MS has taken with another of their major franchises, Age of Empires. Age of Empires II DE was released in 2019, but the new version of Age of Mythology is only just coming out this year, 5 years later. 2 years to get all the tracks remastered in the new FM isn't that much time compared to 5 years to get a full range of remastered Age of Empires/Mythology titles. IMO it's all part of a long term plan for what they want their set of main franchises on Game Pass to look like. They know where they want to get to, but they're doing it in a fairly slow and steady manner.

I don’t even know what they would call a sequel. Forza Motorsport 2?

Actually, I can see FM23 living a life long enough to possibly coexist alongside FH6. After that the Motorsport and Horizon franchises might merge into a single game called just Forza combining circuit driving with an open world.

When they split the GT division they mentioned a GT4 division was coming, maybe a return of the GT4 Cayman from FM7? GT4 cars are pretty heavily production based, and we already have a few Caymans in game to be the road car to the race car.

Gonna be a pretty thin division though, as all we have is the KTM and the Ginetta... Low car counts are good for balance though I guess, but there isn't really any rivalry or history in that set of cars.

Would like to have something more interesting than the Cayman though, as it's in everything (and I don't think I've enjoyed driving it in anything). Out of date race cars seems to be Forza's thing, so if I was dreaming I'd like to see Camaro and last gen Mustang GT4s. Sure there is updated Mustang and the Camaro just went out of homologation, but they are perfect rivals, and they are some of the more uncommon GT4 cars that you can't drive in every other game.

The removal of the Trans Am cars from the GT divisions also mean it would be a good time to get the Camaro as a free car to go with the others and a new division for them, but given they are tubeframe cars they don't really follow the "road to race" thing very well since all they have in common with their road counterparts is vaguely inspired fiberglass bodywork.

I watched a Failrace video on their attempts to get road cars to race against the Ginetta GT4. They concluded that they simply couldn't get enough downforce on normal cars compared to the Ginetta. And that's only GT4, GT3 aero is completely impossible.

So if they were to seriously want to give us road-to-race capabilities, we would need more powerful aero to allow us to create cars which can compete directly with purpose built GT4 and GT3 race cars.

Edit:

Edit 2: Iirc a patch after this reduced the Ginetta GT4's downforce, but Forza aero is still not enough.

I've read several such articles as well. Here's one of them:

If the plan is to support FM'23 for a long time, I wonder what they plan to do when the next console generation arrives, which is rumoured to happen in 2026 already. Will T10 just continue to build on this platform and introduce graphical improvements like RTGI even on consoles, or will they start building on something new?🤔

@Nielsen I can see why the idea of a combined Forza-verse is enticing, but personally I hope that they never ever merge the two games together. Having them separate allows each game to focus on their fortes. Games that try to please everyone usually ends up pleasing no one at all in my experience.

If it's anything like other live-service games such as GTA V, iRacing, etc., they'll just keep up to date with the technology - improvements in graphics, new content and such like, but the core will remain the same and will just keep making it larger and larger. When there is enough of an improvement in performance that the physics engine can be overhauled (I'd say it's pretty good as it is and doesn't need much work, even retaining it for the next generation of consoles), then the current gen will be dropped, but there's no need to do that at the moment.

I think FM23 has at least 3-5 solid years in it before the next game can be even mentioned.

The first indication is the drip feeding of car and track content, if they are truly sticking to 6-8 cars a month and 1 track every two months then it's a long haul to reach certain counts of each which includes the highly requested ones. We might not eclipse 30 tracks for another year and will just top 600 cars this week after nearly a year since release. Plus besides the cars in the car pass, we have only had a handful of new to FM cars added to the game since release.

The second indicator is old features and the small amount of builders cup races. We have yet to get drag racing and drift back even though we know they are coming eventually but I think we will get one at a time. I also expect them to eventually add more permanent events to builders cup or maybe even a complete new playlist of events but who knows when that will be.

The trouble is, that behaviour could be them drip-feeding content for the long term, or it could be their budget having been slashed and this being all they can achieve. We don't really know for sure which it is.

For me a warning sign was when they allowed removal of TAA without even building in MSAA as an alternative. That's just sloppy, relying on people manually overriding antialiasing in drivers. (sidetone: When FH5 went from only supporting MSAA to adding DLAA, TAA, FSR etc... they went and built a multi-choice menu to switch between fully functional alternatives, as you'd expect)
And likewise around release they made a big noise about RTGI and how PG already had a working prototype they were going to leverage, and yet we've not heard a word since.

I don't expect them to support it much longer, the game is a failure by all accounts and MS is not gonna keep throwing resources to support a sinking ship. Most likely outcome is T10 getting shut down or downsized and turned into a support studio for PG, nothing more than that. We've seen studios with much more successful games getting the boot, e.g. Hi-Fi Rush, Driveclub and so on. It's a done deal at this point.

Oh boy, is it that time again for Sim to spout his aged like milk takes again? Let's reflect.
They don't have a history of supporting games with lots of tracks. The most they did is 3 tracks for FM5.
Brands Hatch, Daytona, Hockenheimring, full Nurburgring, Sebring, Yas Marina. That's double....
Lol at thinking that a new track will drop every month. Snap back to reality. One every 3-4 months is more realistic.
6 in 10 months. @Northstar was closer to the prediction than you. Snap back to reality....

If they didn't fix the car models after a 6 year dev cycle they'll never ever fix them.
They fixed the 22b & it's apparent they're working on others. Never fix them, though....

This is Turn10's last shot at turning it around before getting closed down
Oh man, predicting this year old diarrhea....
