Not immediately. My preorder is showing as reserved on my credit card, so I expect it within a few days.
Perfect! As long as it's reserved or taken out immediately. With the PSVR2 pre-order it didn't take it for a long time so I had to really pay attention to my finances. It wasn't fun

Q: What is convolution reverb and how does Forza Motorsport utilize it?

A: Convolution reverb is a hardware-accelerated technique enabled by Xbox Series X|S. It accurately reproduces how sounds interact within an environment to create a realistic and detailed soundscape. We also partnered with Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos to create a more immersive audio composition for Forza Motorsport.
A really brief explanation of convolution reverb, which would probably run fine on any Xbox unless they've actively recorded samples in 3D rather than stereo since they mention Atmos, which could up CPU usage a bit, hard to tell if they mean the same thing here from that wording.

How they blend the sound between us passing a grandstand really fast compared to empty space and back again at the next stand / bridge / tunnel will be interesting, especially if in 3D.

Basically if you record a click or clap in a big cathedral and just keep the recording of the sound that bounces back, it can then be multiplied with any new input sound, like a vocalist singing, or for us engines/tyres driving past. It saves more CPU and can be more realistic than using dedicated reverb units running their own algorithms of delays which might not sound exactly like a particularly shaped cathedral, or for us tunnel or pit lane.

I'm guessing they'll have went round all the real tracks recording these samples to use as the multiplier inputs for convolution in every part of the track, not too sure what they'll do for the made up tracks other than use somewhere fairly similar. Either that or they'll just settle for something that sounds realistic enough for the rough space types we'll pass for all tracks.

Pretty sure I saw Ian Bell suggest convolution was dated (interested to hear what they will use) when FM8 announced this, although it's definitely still used by the best reverb units in the software world to emulate some of the most expensive hardware units from back in the day which would have heavy duty algorithms that could technically be made into software but the original manufacturers generally don't, though sometimes allow others to use convolution under licence. Reverb units can also be 'stolen' in this way by getting a setting that's great, recording the click then using that, but without much option to alter as well as the original hardware/software unless it's recorded at every possibly setting like those using licences do to make the software versions.

FL Studio Convolver is probably the cheapest/free demo route to explore with decent online tutorials explaining it all better. LiquidSonics make the best, highly praised conversions under licence, along with some of their own, including more recently 3D stuff.

For me FM is looking and sounding good with what's been advised thus far. I will be interested to see how the race weekend will be implemented. Maybe a stretch but would love to see a next gen version of Camino Viejo de Montserrat. That was an amazing track and the scenery would look amazing in my humble opinion.

I want all Montserrat tracks not just Camino Viejo
Iberian and Ladera Test Track
Man...seeing them all in this gen would be absolutely incredible, and it doesn't hurt that they were pretty fun to drive too! I really hope that even if they're not in at launch, that we atleast get them as post-launch content.

That trailer took me back to FM4. Prettier, of course, but same kinda vibe. If they just removed the voice and "music" it would have been a stellar trailer

Either that or they'll just settle for something that sounds realistic enough for the rough space types we'll pass for all tracks.
Forgot to say, and this could be really useful for car modification in Car Builders that reverb could be cleverly used for different exhaust systems, possibly even in engine bays (but I can't see them taking supercars to bits to record engines in isolation due to cost).

I'm hoping we'll hear advanced sound inside and outside car views totally differently (or with options to let us hear whatever variant we want with whatever view we race with). Whether that changes when a window is missing or there's glass sliding from side to side to enhance the audio perception of G forces could be something special in Atmos. I'm not sure if we drive under a flipping car it'll have the sound go right over our heads but that'd be pretty special, despite bass having no discernible direction to human ears we'd still hear the low end above whatever (.1) frequency directionality happens.

It'll be interesting to hear also how other cars are processed, say we park or sit in a stand for replays near a tunnel and there's a hairpin behind us coming into the opposite side from the tunnel will it be blending all the cars coming round there with their own environmental convolutions, mixed in with the ones already racing through the tunnel/in other directions/different track areas? Or whether they'll only be able to give us our own car noise and cars next to us (which themselves should bounce our sound back the same as the visual reflections, to some extent).

Technically they could maybe even use the 3D map of tracks in a similar way to ray-tracing but within the sound spectrum to record the spaces virtually, then just convert whatever wizardry that would take into convolution to reduce CPU requirements per track area, but that'd be hyper advanced.

A trailer that focuses solely on car sound recordings like the chase scene in Bullitt in a creative fun/musical(?) way would rock.
If they just removed the voice
Wasn't too keen on the stylised distortion effect choice used here either (if we can tone that down in a settings?), unless she's an actual robogirl who transforms into a hypercar after upgrades.

I still don't know why there was not such a thing in GT7!
I still cant belive how they dropped the ball after teasing so much the GT4-like aestetics
I guess they just wanted smoke and mirrors to sell microtransations or something changed during development......

Someone pointed this out to me.

I dont see the connection too much and this is probably just a coincidence but, the menu seems to be simplified like FM4:

The upgrade menu seems to be in the Void™ :

Fine by me, FM4 is by far the best in the series, was a joy to navigate. Hopefully it's not the only inspiration they've taken from that game.

This kind of stuff is really putting me off a lot of new games, especially with the £70 launch prices or need for continued subscriptions.

The 911 RSR in the Mid Ohio screenshot feels very random. An almost 10 year old car, with no outstanding historic relevance. Was surprised it never made any of the older titles. No complaint though, just an observation.
Also quite surprised by its inclusion. But I would argue that it has historic relevance (in its IMSA livery though) as it won Petit Le Mans overall in 2015, the first (and I believe) only time a GT car achieved that.

As this car somewhat completes the 2014/15 IMSA GTLM field, I am really hoping for the possibility to almost manually create races. For example, I would like to be able to have 2 Corvette C7.R's, the two Z4 GTE's that were in Forza Motorsport 7, the Risi Ferrari 458, two Viper GTS-R's, and 2 Porsche 911 RSR's. And then throw in some of the prototypes from those years as well for a good multi-class race with dynamic time of day. That's basically all I want from this game.

Also, the inclusion of the 991.1 RSR makes me hopeful to see my favourite racing car get included: the Aston Martin Vantage GTE from 2012-2017. And apparently, wheel textures for the 2017 Vantage GTE (Le Mans GTE Pro winner that year) were found in Horizon 5 files :)

These comments about colour of lighting crack me up. First of all there’s dynamic weather and time of day in the new FM. Secondly it was built from the start with HDR and global illumination in play: lighting will change every lap, and SDR YouTube videos really can’t display its splendor.

Thankfully anyone can try out FM(8) via game pass so it’s basically a permanent full game demo, so the real lighting on your high quality HDR TV will be visible.

VIP always existed on Forza, i think it is just a way to win money from uninformed people thinking that VIP is something important that you need for the game or some stupid thinking like that but at end of the day all you are paying for is for just a stupid crown next to your nickname and that is just about it...

Also most VIP Cars on older Forzas were just random cars that some default car with a good setup would easly beat them, nothjing to worry about

Finally we will be getting a proper Career with FM...
I still don't know why there was not such a thing in GT7!
In terms of races we didin’t get what we wanted in gt7, but gt7 offers a lot in career mode forza wont, like licenses, missions circuit experinces, forza as of late just have the races, but we still dont know yet what kind of career mode we will have in forza motorsport, until later today, i hope its good one and more simular to fm4, where you class racing, i also hope you start with slow car and build your way up

Aren't mission circuits and weekly #Forzathon roughly equivalent to each other? Set tasks that you have to complete with a specific vehicle or group of vehicles?

I'm not sure as I haven't gone back to GT7 after the first week or so's play as once the café menus and most of the licence tests were done, I wasn't really sure what to do next and it was difficult to progress without amassing in game cash through excessive grinding.

It's a shame and a bit of a disappointment for me tbh as I was hoping to play the game for months, not days. Perhaps I should give it another chance but I don't use my PS4 for any other games so there's little incentive for me to boot it up.

I'm so glad I didn't buy the latest PS5 console to play it as I did with GT5 and PS3 at the time. I didn't play that game for very long either although GT6 was slightly better for me.

If FM2023 turns out to be a dud, at least I have quite a few other games on the Xbox to keep me occupied. I was surprised at how much I got out of FM7's career, though, so would expect to play the upcoming game for longer than I did GT.
