Forza

Am i supposed to be impressed when an Xbox game looks that flat and jagged?

GT3 looks better than that.

You're not supposed to be impressed if you don't want to be. So go on being unimpressed, and keep spouting forced little quips like that.

People with functioning eyeballs that also do not feel the compulsion to lie to themselves will aknowledge the brilliance of said graphics.

If you want to see what the fuss is about, just play the game and judge for yourself, or are you too close-minded to even try?

Having an opposite opinion does not make you close-minded.

I'm sure you can agree that GT3 looks much better than that. The sprites are so horrible there.

Giancarlo, you sir are a fool. Most gamers would laugh at what you just said, it's like saying sonic 1 looks better then half life 2. I also love how you call it "flat and jagged", nothing like making stuff up eh when you can't win an argument! Two can play at this game!

"tsk I hate Gt4, it has far too much disco lighting!"

see, if you played the game before mouthing off, you'd realise that those aren't sprites, if you are indeed referring to the crowd. They're all full 3d models, and look much nicer than the "uber realistic/human element" 3d models seen in GT4.

You can say the game is ugly, I'd at least give you the benefit of the doubt if you played the damn game. And in my honest opinion, RSC2 kicks the crap out of GT3. It pummels it. It does not follow the same school of photorealism, but it looks better , much better.

Playing them back to back, I see GT3's cool lighting and unparralleled (but nonetheless lacking detail and sporting blurry textures) car-models, topped off with track backgrounds that range from pretty mediocre (complex string) to spectacular (cote d"azur). No matter the track, the detail is still low and dull. Basically, GT is all car. When you look elsewhere, you get dissapointed. Also, jaggies abound, and there is no progressive scan option.

Pop in RSC2, it explodes in your face. Vivid colours, long stretching open landscapes full of detail and rich textures, car models that look tangible and have sharp textures, plenty of detail and nice reflection and mud effects. The 3d wheels look much nicer than GT3's 2d templates as well. Don't even get me started on the environmental effects; rain smearing down the windscreen as you cut through a muddy rallycross track covered in puddles of rain water while your tires kick up clumps of dirt and spray water behind you. Or blazing through the english countryside while autumn leaves are stirred up in your wake as the sun peaks through the branches of incredibly modelled trees. Put it in 480p mode and the effect is amplified twofold.

that descriptive enough?

oh yeah, and here's the kicker: the headlights actually work (they look stunning during night races, actually), and there is impressive (if unrealistic) damage modelling. OMFG!!!11

Do you know what anti-aliasing is? Looks at all the edges of objects in those screens. Particularly the edges of trees and shadows. Tell me that's not jagged.

It looks flat because the colors are flat. Nothing has sheen where it's supposed to.

And don't even mention GT4. This rally game could never dream of reaching GT4.

Back on the topic, then.

You really think GT3 loos better then RSC2 ? LMAO !! you sir are the saddest fanboy that ever existed or you just being plain stubburn and don't want to admit you are wrong.

RSC2 is an excellent and if you cannot enjoy what it has to offer then you are too biased to ever love anything else. It sad to see people like you. You only enjoy one thing and one thing only. You are missing on so much.

no, you've just made this the topic.

It seriously burns me everytime somebody just lets crap pour out onto their keyboards like that. People have preferences and different tastes, that's perfectly natural and reasonable. But there are also people that are so caught up in whatever (insert game, film, show, favourite thing) that they put other things down without even using their brains beforehand.

Before you start judging based on screenshots, we should get some honest-to-god screens of GT3 (in a resolution that is feasible for mere mortals on televisions) and compare. All of the developer-released shots in the thread (especially forza, it does not look that sharp when you play it, it looks, like code said, very rough) are totally not representative of the game in question.

You obviously don't.

I do, actually.

I'm just as much of a biased fanboy to GT3 as you are to this RSC2.

Bascially i'm saying that i'm not either one of those.

How can you state this when you jumped to conclusions and assumed i was caught up with hating RSC2?

Damn, i just said that those screens looked like crap. Big deal, they do, after all. I didn't complain about anything but the graphics. I don't have to play the game to see the graphics look the way i think they do.

So stop thinking i'm an anal-retentive, close-minded fanboy just because what i say is different from what you say.

This is the Forza thread. Discuss Forza before we get this thread closed.

thats probs the best RSC2 lighting shot ive seen

Oh yes, Gt3 looks better then THAT! cough...

yeah. tell me about it.

Anyway, that screenshot is incredibly high resolution that isn't a realistic portrayal of the game engine when being played. But people take photomode pics from GT4 and wave them about, somehow believing the game will look that good on their television screens. They're in for a rude awakening.

Although there's not enough shadow under the car, that's much better. Looks more like a rendering than an in-game screen though?

And it still looks GT3 to me. ;)

Yeah the game obviously isn't that sharp, but it does look like that, and is still very smooth.

Umm yes there is a shadow there, look. And no, it's not a rendering, it's a flattering screenshot, at a higher then game res.

I said not enough. Looks to me like the car is floating.

Flattering screenshot at a high than game resolution? What other names can you think up for rendering? And don't say cutscene... ;)

A rendering would be done on a pc. The game DOES actually look like that. And the cars DEFF do not feel, nor look like they float, the feeling of grip in RSC2 is fantastic.

renders are usually represented in a controlled environment, like a placeholder level that the developer can use like a virtual sandbox on a PC. That shot is an in-game shot with upped resolution captured from the dev kit.

Ok, that's enough. You're not going to make me change my mind; live with it.

What do guys think of Forza's poor number of tracks? I recently read it only had around 6, is that true?

More like 40. Not true.

some hi-res forza screens for good measure. Again, these are "flattering", as the resolution is not anywhere near what you'd see on your tv. This game needs more than just a boost in resolution to compete successfully with GT4, as evidenced by the link:

http://www.webquad.com/forza/content/view/94/46/

still, it's a start, and definitely one of the nicer looking racers out there.
