Forza

Yes I have played both. Not the final build of Forza mind you but from what I have played so far, Forza's physics seem more accurate than the final Japanese GT4 physics engine. The sound seems less muffled in Forza as well.

I am for one VERY excited about Enthusia. It is sounding like it will be the real GT4 killer as far as pure driving goes.

from what I've seen Forza has a poor portrayal of real life gravity, the cars fload a LOT when coming off of a jump, or run into walls/other cars. In GT4 I have only seen this happen at high speeds, in Forza, in the videos, I see it happen at lower speeds and on small impact collisions.

I think you mean float, and from what I've experienced, the cars don't float, I haven' played the game but I have seen someone play it and at times it may look a little off in the demo build but the cars don't actually float, the physics are fantastic.

Both games have there little quirks i think. I have noticed in GT4 when the cars bump they look weird. Everything looks real when they are driving along without any contact then all of a sudden when they bump they look like icecubes on ice and ruins the immersion of realism a little.

Hahaha, yep even the mighty GT4's physics are flawed. at this point in time people have to a\ccept that no game will provide close to perfection.

lol @ that forza presentation, reminds me of window's 95 presentations critical error.

haha.
yeah that was probally embarrasing to say the least for them. Not good. This is the second year ive seen a sofware demo freeze up on a Microsoft presentation from last e3. Im just really peeved because we didnt get to finish seeing Forza. O well. i have a feeling a head or two will role though yikes. :ouch:

How about you play both games and then come back and comment. Old videos dont give you the proper experience.

Nonsense.

Actually, PD used toy cars a whole LOT, and everybody that models cars in 3D packages knows how helpful especially Tamiya models and blueprints are.

BUT, this is independent from the lighting. It's no big deal to change material properties or change the shader to make the car look different which is what this is all about.

Apart from that again, an artistic, pseudo-realistic look can look better, more homogenous and more immersive than an attempted hyper-realistic one and does in most cases. GT4 and GTR are good examples of this. GT4 doesn't go for all out graphical realism. I mean, just look at the contrast and saturation. In most contexts pseudo-realism and drawn textures look a lot better than attempted hyper-realism and photo-textures.

So how 'good' FM will end up looking largely depends on who's sitting at the top of the art and graphics department and it's a choice that can be done very late in the product development cycle.

it was just a theory.

But tell me how many scale miniatures look exactly like the real thing? Even with a manipulative photo with a beleivable background, it's easily distinguishable from a real car, because the lighting and shadows are different, and usually not proportionally. Also, the inserts for headlights often look strange upon closer inspection (the same could be said of Forza's headlights, even though GT uses flat textures for them.)

Ive played a family members demo of Forza, I might say even when i dont own a xbox, forza kinda reminds me of project gotham in some way, but when i played like every turn you take and you brake at that turn you steer all the way and it just goes straight, this might only be the demo but i didnt enjoy it at all.

Its not a bad game but it neither better than gt4 even with online and damage, i only like the engine sounds, but custimazation is weak in the game and gt4 has that partially, and i think thats good enough for me.

the customization wasn't implemented in the demo. They only had mock-ups (terrible looking ones too :yuck: ) of the 350Z, WRX sti, NSX, and EVO 8. There was no tuning.

the physics are so far removed from project gotham that I doubt you even played the game in question. :ill:

Like i mentioned before, i might not have a xbox but the cousins do and aswell have project gotham 2, and yes i do agree with you the kits were ugly on the 350z, and the others.

LOL.. why don't we wait for the full release of it then we compare after testing both games?

I don't quite like the look of the graphics for Forza at the moment.. the cars just seem too blocky and 3D lookalike.

GT4 actually can fool someone if you watch replay of Nurb without any on screen display!

Forza = going to get PWNED in sales. We have a demo setup in my store (ebGames) and no one freaking plays it for more than 30 seconds!

Probably because you can't brake and turn at the same time...I dunno.

It would get "owned" in sales anyway, even if people played it a lot at your store. More people have Playstations and more people know about gran turismo.

It's not supprising it crashed though, devs are put under alot of pressure to get show demos out on time, still funny though XD. Gotta feel sorry for the guy lol. Comic gold, thank you microsoft, thank you!!! The enzo sounded great though.

Sadly, I don't hold the title of Captain Obvious. My role is simply random freelance reviwer.

You should hear the customer comments!

I took the captain obvious thing off as it was abit over the top lol, but hell, you can be captain obvious if you want XD

Yeah I can see the customers now...

"hey why can't I take this corner at 140 mph?" etc etc etc lol

the customer comments must be more in line with: "where's the sims 2?" and "this game isn't the sims 2!"

Some man actually asked me if Forza was a GT3 spin-off. He said he'd put a lot of money and time into the GT series, and that he was really disappointed in the way it sold out to Xbox.

I explained to him that this game is called Forza Motorsport, and that it was GT4's most capable competitor.

You would not believe the smile on this man's face as we shared a laugh. When our lungs stopped aching, he added, "Figures!" and walked out with his purchase.
