Forza

I think you'll find most gamers who have played any of the GT series praise it, no matter what console they prefer/own. There is definately something about GT that grabs you like no other game, mind you I'm just goin' "cold turkey" from motoGP2 (XBOX/LIVE), that is definately an addictive game.

It's funny that you ask that question. On forza board, there is alot of positive talk about GT series. I think this is where both community differ. I didn't expect anything different.

It's just a lack of respect from a few individuals. People say stupid things everywhere you go.

Just got a call from my boss, my preview build of Forza was delivered, it's more complete than the demo you have played. I'm going to write a hands on impression, as well as a mild comparison between it and GT4, only mild because the game is not "final yet". When there is a final build, we will compare both, and then when enthusia is released, we will compare all three.

so you play anything yet? you said you were going to...

I'll be playing tonight :) I'm semi excited, lol. Hopefully I won't get pulled away by GT4, lol. I've been so engulfed in GT4 lately. Anyway, I'll drop some lines once I get more play time, unless I'm too busy playing, haha.

So its a new playable build different from the E3 one? Or something else?

Anyways, after seeing the newest screens of the RSX, they did a lot of editing on the lighiting. Everything is a lot more clear.

Okay, here's my general opinion after one night with forza, which will most certainly change as I get more time with the game.

A.I.

It's pretty good, surprisingly, but that's not to say that it's revolutionary. For the most part, it still follows a line, however it's stated in our press release that there are still bugs in the A.I. It's pretty good, however, with control of different cars. It doesn't display the same problems that other racing AI suffers from, i.e. over powerment of cars, and sliding out. While the race line is still generalized for all cars, they follow it much better rather than falling out in stronger cars.

Visuals:

I didn't like them. LOL. I know I'm going to get nicked up by everyone, but in my opinion, they were a bit...well slow. I know everyone doesn't really car about 30fps..but it was driving me insane. Especially in the 8 car events, I experienced siginificant slowdown. While this will more than likely be fixed in the final version, it was pretty buggy in this build.

Control:

Phyics were good, on par with GT4 IMO. HOWEVER, you need to understand that Forza does have a different feel due to the tire model. The physics are great, and from the play I got, felt on par with GT4, but it shines with the tire model. Wear is a bit better, and each car displays different wear.

On the topic of temp. etc. There was a difference, however, in the build it felt like it wasn't significant, nor did it change greatly in different temps.

Another thing I couldn't stand was the control (button wise). It was driving me literally insane. I just did not like shifting with face buttons rather than shoulers. It was odd to me, and felt rather uncomfortable. I didn't change the controls however, so it's not really a gripe that I should complain about. The analog sticks felt extremely too sensative though, while the d-pad was undersensative.

Sound:

Sound was good, but still buggy in the build. There were several cars that were on different sound levels (even race cars) and sometimes the whine of the turbo, or tire squeek, was too quiet, or extremely loud. These are just early bugs that I'm sure will get fixed in the final product. Overall sound was good, though some cars sounded overly beefy..

LOAD TIMES: IMPORTANT.

There have been complaints about load times, but it needs to be understood that the optimization of load times has not been done. When it is, I expect load times to be at least 25% faster than they are in this build. So load time complaints should be taken with a grain of salt.

All in all I can't give a huge impression yet, but after more play time I will. So far it's a pretty decent racer, with a few bugs here and there, but that's expected with a preview build. I dont' think we'll see this game in april though, I just don't see it happening. It's going to take time.

If you could would you give a sort of mini preview of what the competitions are like, how theyre structured and how fun the game is.

No problem. Probably by monday I'll be done. GT4 distracted me late last night, I just got my Shingo AE86, and my BP RX-7, so I've been "drifting" (I'm not too good yet, lol) and added some new screens to my photogallery, lol. I'll hit it up a lot tonight and tomorrow night.

cool.

So the controls still stink? Bummer.

Framerate doesn't bother me as long as it's a solid 30fps, but from what you say it's got significant slowdown.... Hmmm...

Gathering from what you've said about the build, I also don't believe this game's gonna be ready anytime soon. It sounds like it still needs a lot of work, so I'm more than willing to wait for it, just like I did (and am still doing!) with GT4.

I just hope MS is more direct about the release date and doesn't pull a PD on us. I don't want to wait 2 more years... :grumpy:

Yes, this is an almost complete but unpolished beta version of Forza, so most if not all the content is there but the games not had all it's bugsand glitches fixed and may have a few effects and things to sort out or add.

Well, my build is supposedly fully functional, however reply's don't work. So far, it freezes about every 60-80 minutes, lol. And arcade mode is the only mode where all features work well. But everything from tuning to customization works, though it's slow.

And as for framerate, it does suffer from slowdown, but it only really happens when you damage your car up significantly, or are around all other cars, etc, it just seems to hit the system hard.

^^^ when I get home I'll take more notes, etc. But they build I have has everything that is supposed to be in the final version, though it is said that this build is 3.5 months away from completion.

the cars are mostly locked or currently unavailable then, I suppose?

I wanna know about the lack of street bimmers.

yea, most of them are locked, I'll progress some through career mode, but don't expect me to play through it entirely too much. It's entirely too frustrating to play through an unpolished game, lol. Mainly after I hit the main points, and important parts, I'll be playing GT4 again, haha.

Can you give us a list of the cars and tracks if possible?

Or are the lcoked cars in a dark figure so you can't see them?

locked cars are shadows with a pad lock over them...

I'm going to try to unlock some of them later, still at my primary job right now, lol. When I get home I'll play some, screen cap thing is broke, but I'll take pictures of the game etc. with my camera if I get a chance.

So, for those who have never even heard of Forza Motorsport, here's a little primer. A racing simulation built to provide games with a real-world sense of speed, physics, and competitive AI, Microsoft's internally built uber-racer features 233-plus cars, a huge career mode, tons of realistic, officially licensed cars from around the world (North America, Europe and Asia), customizing features (internal and external) and an extensive online set of modes, leaderboards and challenges. These licensed vehicles can take damage, there are human models in the cars themselves, there is a sensational feeling of raw power and speed in each of the 60-plus cars, and everything is designed to be top notch, with 60 FPS and Dolby 5.1 sound. Microsoft's game, announced right before E3 in May 2004, experienced a superb E3 showing, has gone through many iterations, seen delays, and now it's supposedly coming out in early April.
-IGN (All new preview) 2 more coming soon...

Forza to run at 60fps!

please post me a linkt o that please. As I stated, in my build, it's 30fps and drops horribly...I just don't see 60fps being possible at all.

OK, That Drivatar Thingy has got me interested big time, That will be so sweet if the cars actually drive exactly like you do, And Forza also offers a fleet of cars to race against all featuring emulations of how you drive! =Drivatars 👍

drivatar sounds pretty cool, I'll get more hands on tonight, hopefully it'll prove to be fun :D

Basically it just makes the AI more challanging because they drive like YOU...so the better you get, the better it gets..nice concept I say.
