Forza

I dunno what these people think when making games

"i know, lets make it run at 30fps"

Foolsl, why don't they do the wise thing, drop some graphic detail and give us 60 :(. 30 isn't terrible, but it' not what I expect in a modern game, especially with things like Gt4 and RSC2 running at a solid 60.

The game does sound good though.

Well looking at this game I'm going to say it will be a very good game...maybe better then GT4 (if it ever comes out). I know I will be getting both but I enjoy my Xbox a lot more then the PS2. The Xbox graphics engine is worlds ahead of the PS2.

The custom car aspect and that Xbox Live feature makes Forza sound a lot better then Gt4. But I don't know till I can get my hands on both.

looks good to me. look at the backgrounds.

Screw it. Dude lied on ForzaCentral. It really is 30fps.

Dude on Forza Central didn't lie, IGN posted 60fps in the article and then changed it the next day.

It's the second time they've screwed up the same topic, when the game was first announced they said it would be 20fps and then changed it to 30!

I am going to take the_con calling Forza's physics "on par with GT4" as meaning, "Uh wow, Forza does have great physics and better than GT4...but I will never say anything is better than GT4." :sly:

No.

After playing them both, with all assists off, I have come to determine that both of these games have physics engines that have their strengths and weaknesses, but in the end the come out equal.

Where Forza stands out is it's Tire Model, which is far ahead of GT4.

Do NOT confuse the two. If you don't undestand, then don't comment.

Anyway, about Driveatar.

It's actually fairly simple, and not very complex at all. Basically, drivatar is a series of races in which the race line is presented too you. You drive the track as many times as you like. While you follow the race line, you are graded as to how well you take the line, more or less it is graded by time spend in the turn, and the accuracy of your turn. If you go extremely slow, but stay on the line, you will get a rating of rougly 50%+. If you go too fast, but fly off the line, you will get something like 40%. So far I have only been able to achieve 88%.

Initially you are given points that coincide with your percentage, i..e. if you get 77% you will recieve 77 points. Later, you will recieve fewer points for the same kind of turn.

The drivatar learns how to take certain turns. Kinks, Hairpins, sweeps, constant radius turns, decreasing radius turns, etc., the more points you earn for an individual type of turn, the better your drivatar will be at taking those turns.

It doesn't end there though. He can also learn how to use different cars, i.e. FF, FR, MR, RR, General, etc. Initially you will only gain General points, however more experience with an FF car, or an FR car will yeild better driving skills with these specific cars.

As you learn, you will notice that the AI will begine to drive more like you. It's important that you constantly play and teach your Drivatar, as it is your competition, if you neglect it, you will soon find yourself leaving the comp behind, and the game will get boooooring.

More updates later.

This snippet tends to indicate the involvement as Dan Greenwait was the lead designer on PGR2, strange, I doth think the plot thickens?

Dan Greenawalt: Personally speaking, the original Gran Turismo was the reason I bought my first console. Without the first Gran Turismo, several of us probably wouldn't have become involved in this industry in the first place. Polyphony has created a great series. Forza Motorsport is the game we've wanted to make for years - incredible simulation, car collection, upgrades and tuning - plus deep customization, great AI and groundbreaking online features.

Ok, but is it actually the Bizzare team working on it? No. Yes, some from it are working on it, but its not Bizzare itself.

My 2 cents:

I played Forza yesterday and to be honest wasn't impressed at all. 👎 The handling seem very sluggish and braking was also. I raced a WRX STi @ Laguna and it seemed really, really narrow. I still want to play it more but my first impression was a really bad one. 👎

Turn off the driving aids, that'll make it feel more realistic. Without the aids on it's a proper console simulation.

Well...the main problem I see with forza, at least in my build, is that the controls are either over responsive, or under responsive. i.e. the control is uneven throughout the movement path of the analog stick.

If they fix that, I'll love it, not as much as GT4 :P but to me my reasons are legit.

Hey tha_con,

Thanks for your continuing review - much appreciated!!

It is my understanding (just from what I have read) that the Drivitar feature is there for you to teach and train yourself and to run races for you, even while you are driving in another.

to explain more, as you explained you do the Drivitar races when you begin the game and watch yourself to see what you are doing right or wrong. Then as you improve you can come back and re-train the drivers and continue, watching your progress and improving along the way. At any time you can use the drivers you have trained to run races for you (or against yourself).

But, I was under the impression that the AI used in the single player game is seperate. ie - the drivers you train aren't racing against you in the single player game. I was wondering if, whenever you have time, you could confirm or deny this for me?

Thankyou for any info you can provide :)

^ Thats what I thought, I didn't think the AI in the competition races was your drivatar that you personally trained. I know all the AI learns from you but I thought that it didn't all drives like you, and that you didn't have to actually train all the AI.

Hey guys I am new here and I am a big gear head, and I love GT, and Forza Motorsport. the_con I was just wodering if you could post some pictures of cars that we havn't seen before, or some after market parts.

Peace. tripn'

just the fact that YOU aknowledged that it's decent is more praise than anyone expected.

I think that's what gek meant.

Anyway, tha_con, you're a minor celebrity on the forzacentral forums.

Here's what one of the mods had to say regarding your doubts about the april release date:

"Anyone remembers the last PGR2 beta before release?
That one had alot of bugs, popups, and missing stuff but in the end and that was just a month later, all of this was not found in the final version of PGR2 so I think this will be the same with Forza.
That latest build of Forza that is currently out there is from around November"

Not to down anyone who has said this...but it's not true. I can take a picture of the build to prove it, but it's CLEARLY dated 12/31/2004, AND the PRESS RELEASE that we got with it says it's 3.5 months away from COMPLETION...not even mentioning a release date.

I'll post pictures of it soon I suppose...

The dude at forza central is trying to remind everyone
how PGR2 looked like before its release, and how it
looked on it's release.

the_con, i hope you have the time to post
some screenshots. I want to see some
BAD!!!

currently the screen cap. card is busted, however I can try to figure something out... I have some pictures from a digi cam tho....

Just looking at the Forza website and noticed that the Blue Mountains raceway has a passing resemblance to the nearby (if it were real, of course) Mount Panorama Circuit at Bathurst. Any of you guys recognise any of the other fictious tracks?

If only there were Australian cars to race on it. Oh well just haave to use a 911 GT3 instead ;)

Actually some of the tracks look interesting, going to be a big year of racing: GT4, Forza + Enthusia.

It is based on Bathurst. It's a shame they didn't do the real thing - they destroyed it in the V8 supercars game!!

You can always jump in the 2004 GTO (Monaro)!

Go the mighty Dragons!!
