Funny things RICErs say (radically immature car enthusiasts)

Oh ok, I was just talking about intake sound, as you were saying you never heard a car being louder with just an air filter. You should hear a Mitsubishi cyborg with no air filter at 8,500 rpm, it would surprise you.

That Audi guy sounds like a pure RICEr, more powerful than a F430. Making stuff up as he goes along, hoping you don't know any better.

I have heard Subies at 9,000 with a 4cyl and no exhaust. Not that loud. That said I've never heard an air filter make a car louder.

With an injection engine, if you remove the airfilter, you will hear quite the increase in engine noise. It is a very sucking sound. :D

If you listen to that AE86 video I told you about, you will hear. The only time you hear exhaust in that video is when the camera is outside and directly behind the exhaust. He has no air filter on that car.

have a listen.

To be honest I really don't hear it. That does sound nice for a 4 cylinder though.

It's the only engine sound your hearing from the car for the majority of the video. That's what intake sounds like with no filter on an injection car, only most aren't quite as nice sounding as that car.

Sounds a like normal 4 pot exhaust.

Thanks for keeping things in perspective 👍. I'll be taking a little hiatus down to San Diego for the holiday weekend so I won't be moderating all that much. Keep those stories comin' guys!

For the sake of the thread I'll drop this bombshell of an experience on you guys. Driving north on the 405 heading to the NASA/CRS Gorman Ridge Rally I was getting pretty bored in the LA traffic. I heard some fart can off in the distance. I move up and in about 5 minutes I find the Holy grail. A 90's prelude slammed to the floor for that 'dope ass' stance, Chrome pink tow hook about a foot long coming out of the rear bumper and a huge front diffuser not painted to match the body. We start to get into the sh:censored:ier part of the 405 where slammed cars get eaten up for breakfast. I keep an eye on him through my mirrors so I would be able to witness the inevitable. Well, it happened. We came to a series of dips and cracks before merging with the 5 and I checked my mirrors just in time to see this preludes lip fold under the car from the bumps! Haha the look on his face was freakin' priceless! I think I'll dub that look the 'It's JDM yoooh sh:censored:'

👍

That's a great story MK1. I don't know why these so called "stance" or "JDM" guys do stupid 🤬 like this and thinks it JDM azzz 🤬 yo! Do they even know how the stance scene even started?

The REAL stance guys know the roads aren't close to perfect, so they try to make some compromises with their lowered car. So setting their suspension setups for that perfect ride and to deal with bumps, dips and imperfect road conditions. This poor Prelude had to suffer from a idiot.

Were the springs cut on his car? If they were, it would be bouncing like crazy.

Ok. Fresh from Kingstown, Carlisle.

Guy pulls up with an Audi A3, looks respectable. Not wearing Hoonigan/Monster/Stancenation T-shirt. So yeah. He looks in and is gawping at a Ferrari F430 in the dealership. I notice an MR2 (looks nice) I make the following comment

"That MR2 is nice. Black with red leather; great!"

Guy: "Yeah. The Toyota is (potty mouth)"
Me: "Yeah... If you're a badge snob. Nicely balanced, that Japanese OCD and its cheap for what it is."
Guy: "The Ferrari is nicer."
Me: "Yeah. But it's too big and powerful for Carlisle. Least the MR2 will be fun at 14 rather than 140..."
Guy: "I race. At a track. I only drive fast cars."
Me: "A diesel Audi A3... Caged animal right there."
Guy: "It's tuned. More power than the Ferrari yknow."
Me: "So why want the 'slower' Ferrari"
Guy: "Ferrari has won the most titles in F1."
Me: "But Audi has won more in Le Mans."
Guy: "But Audis aren't as fast"
Me: "Yours is. Apparently."

He just walked in the dealer and got mad when he couldn't sit in the F430. "Do not touch" said the sigh...

👍

Dude, you are owning these guys! Keep it up Legacy.

And Audis aren't faster than a Ferrari?! Ummm.... The R8 FSI V10 5.2+, R8 GT, The LMP R18 and R18 E-Tron and heavily modified Audis would love to have a word with this guy. And the guy came off as a RICEr, a diesel A3 better than a Ferrari, but talk crap about a MR2?

Even though Ferrari is a prestigious and widely known brand, but Audi and many manufacturers have got amazing cars that scare Ferraris off the track. And some of them for a cheaper price and aftermarket friendly compared to Ferrari. And this is coming from a Ferrari fan. ;)

And I totally agree with Slash with the snobs that just say some small things and then brush you off. But I have been lucky to meet different enthusiasts who are not like that and don't mind asking questions or even helping them out.

I worked with a neighbor and a friend down the street who has a STi. It was really cool. Can't wait to get one or a Evo, gotta meet some Evolution guys in my area soon.

Edit: More random madness from YouTube.

The only times that has really happened to me is when they are usually busy doing something, like setting something up, already talking to someone else etc. Even then sometimes they can be exceptionally nice. I'd really like to get to know the guy that had a funny car at the strip last week, he seemed like a true gent.

That video led me to this amount of laughter, My stomach hurts so much from laughing,

Then there is a second video, wow!

What kind of funny car is it, a Mustang, Camaro or any muscle car platform or is it a complete built from scratch like the ones that run in the NHRA Drags Competitions? I would love to see some pics of that beast.

I posted a few pics of it a couple pages back in the event and showroom did you see anything good today thread. It was a Camaro. It had a 454 based 680ci V8 and ran the 1/8th mile in 4 seconds and 1/4 mile in 6.

Ok, I'll take a look.

Edit: Unfortunately, I couldn't find the picture though.

 At spending 60K just for 300hp in a Integra, wow! Even though back in the early 2000s with the Import Scene, things were expensive. But with 60K I would have a JDM spec B18C engine with AEM, Spoon, Hondata and powered with a single turbo. If I wanted a NA only it would be around 400-450hp, if Turbo around 350hp for street/daily and for the track, increased boost for 450-500hp. And convert it to a JDM ITR instantly. 💡

Or at least get a early JZA80 Supra TT or NA Mk4, Mk3 Supra, SN95 Mustang GT SVT Cobra, a early Trans-Am WS6, 300ZX Z32, DSM GSX Eclipse or a USDM GC8 WRX and build a JDM or EU spec with the EJ20T turbocharged engine and there's more choices out there to modify or buy around 60K or less. 💡;)

Oh wait, they should rename it as I'm a Ricer.

That's not a funny car, that's a sad car. NHRA spec Funny Cars run the 1/4 in the 4.1 to 4.2ish range. For a funny car to run 4's in the 1/8th is sad. 6 seconds in the quarter with an NHRA spec Funny Car will get you no where but back into the trailer that you hauled it in with.

For all that goes .... NHRA Pro Stocks are running 6's.

I love when people think that there car will make the same HP here at 5000 ft above sea level as it did at sea level. I know a guy with a '70 Chevy PU with a 383 that he says made 400 HP at sea level and he thinks because its carbed it will still make the same HP here. Yep carbs magically make more air to fill those cylinders.

Back a few years ago, my family and I went on a vacation to Gatlinburg, TN. When we got into town that evening in the middle of a traffic jam. We notice in front of us was a blue Olds Achieva with a full bodykit, fart can, and sticker on the driver's door saying "Roy Dogg". We all burst out laughing. Of all cars to rice up, why a Olds Achieva?!?!

It was built as a funny car but it wasn't built to NHRA specs, it was just the guys weekend toy. Definitely was not a pro stock car.

Got a feeling he's talking about the Pro Mod class. Extremely fast for them is a 3.8-3.9 1/8th mile

They ain't no sad car, trust me.

A kid in my engineering class told be the reason that Jaguar won't produce the CX75 (or whatever it's names is) is because it tore the test driver's face off when he rolled down the window at 200 mph. I didn't bother agruing with him.

Another kid in my engineering class said that the 3.8L mustang engine in his Ford-F-150 made it go faster, when it produces 50 less hp than a stock 4.2L V6.

My dad claimed that larger rims on a car will cause it to perform better.

Larger rims with smaller profile tires will usually increase response when fitted on a normal car.

I find that Subaru drivers think that their car is god's gift to earth, which makes for pretty funny conversations when they don't even know what a rear sway bar will do to the handling.
