Anyway, hearing from a friend, a local group of ricers who are friends of civic kid are attempting to do some sort of thing similar to how people around the US did the whole "Free Weezy" shenanigans.

This didn't necessarily involve a ricer but I was at the Sydney Motorshow a couple of years ago and they had unveiled at the Toyota stand the new GT86 and at the Subaru stand they had on display the new BRZ. I asked about the Toyota and the person from Toyota I was talking to told me the base model would cost $29,990 (Aussie dollars). Ok I thought so I then went to ask about the Subaru to do a bit of a comparison of the two because they are essentially the same car and the person I spoke to from Subaru said the base BRZ would cost $35,990. I asked, "why is the BRZ 6 grand more than the GT86?" I got no real response. He went on to say you could get an STI version and they aren't the same except for a few minor exterior bits and pieces. I then asked, "But why would I buy the Subaru over the Toyota if they are the same car and the Toyota is so much cheaper? What do I get for the $6k I would otherwise save buying the Subaru instead of the Toyota?" And he just went blank. I wonder what the dealers are like. This guy had nothing. I didn't know whether if he was a dealer but if he is, I won't be buying his cars anytime soon. At least not until he knows about the cars he deals with.

I'd say that's because Toyota say the cars are meant to be tuned by aftermarketers, but I think they'll crack in the next gen BRZ.

Currently, the only proper sports package they offer is the Aozora Edition. No STI.
But then again, why pay more for the car when you can get a base model and hit the aftermarket.
For 5-8 grand you can make the base model look better and perform better.
You can easily reach the 250 HP benchmark for the rumored STI version.

I was on the highway with my dad in his truck, some riced out civic with no hood and a fart can exhaust tried to pass us. He gets up next to us and keeps speeding up and slowing down next to us, like he wants to race. My dad honks the horn 3 times, and punches it, leaving the civic in the dust. I wish I could have seen his face

All Scions are just rebadged Toyotas, but the toyota equivelent is not sold in the US. except for the Tc, which is just a rebodied corolla.

I know, I just never argue with the stupidity of some people. In my honest opinion, I wish everybody was more affluent about cars. I mean its part of everyones lifestyle, young and old. The fact that some people can't even name the model of their car is astonishing in my opinion. Now-A-Days I just have the reply of: "Oh I drive a Nissan." Well what model is it? "I don't know." Gets me mad everytime.

The Toyota Corolla Rumion is the Toyota Rukus which is the Toyota bB which is the Daihatsu Materia which is the Subaru Dex which is the Scion Xb.... so yeah... all Scions are rebadged Toyota's... eventually.

I think its still alright for people who dont know their car models. Those people probably aren't interested in cars. Just like Takumi in Initial D but he went on to become one of the best drivers right ? (But of course that is just an unrealistic racing theme anime so its irrelevant here).
I skimmed over this thread and it irks me when I, the guy who knows a little to nothing about engines can even know the ricer guys is talking nonsense. I wonder what would my reaction to what ricers say if i learn more about engines (would love to but i dont know how to start other than reading about engines). I think i would be really pissed at the stupidity of the ricers lol

Now i really despise ricers for making some car guys, particulary some muscle car guys stereotyping japanese imports as ricers even when it's not at all. It is pretty ridiculous that they would dismiss anything that comes from Japan as ricers.

I have a badge snob mum who doesn't actually know anything about cars.
She saw a Nissan 370Z and asked me what it was because she liked it... She instantly didn't when I said Nissan.
