General San Andreas Discussion and Questions

well, started doing vigilante missions again.. this time i got up to lvl 549 with 6510 kills and the game decided to freeze :grumpy:

That sucks-- how long did this take you and how many times did you have to stop and eat??

Also, curious as to how much time you were able to build up on your clock??

If you do this again, I'd take screenshots or video tape your game for recordbook proof.

When I did my 2363 levels in VC, I was so paronoid of the game locking up that I took a screen shot every 100 levels after breaking the record, and turned off the radio (so the console had 1 less thing to do)-- I only once locked up after 500 levels in VC (no big deal in VC)--- my game rarely locked when I was in the hunter, the Rhino was more prone to do it then anything else in VC.

I have had SA lock up a few times but at odd times-- when I entered the back room at a strip club in LV (twice) and one other time when something was loading.

I sadly have yet to do a long brownthunder run--- my highest is still 12. :yuck:
 
I've only ever had SA freeze up twice, once when I entered a strip club (a pattern maybe?) -- LS or LV, not sure.... -- and once when Jimmy was playing at my house, I forget what he was doing, quite possibly entering a strip club in LV.
 
I've had it freeze once on me so far. It wasn't when I entered a strip club though. I don't think I've ever been inside a strip club in San Andreas.

Still, 1 game freeze in 130 hours is an improvement over Vice City.

yeah, this was the first time it froze for me...

to answer your questions spuds... you can go 90-100 lvls before you have to eat if you keep up a pretty steady pace.

built up about 230 or so minutes (after it gets up to 99:99 it goes back to 00:00)

i have yet to decide whether i'm going to take a screen of it or just do it again later.. since i'll probably do it again later anyway... i haven't turned it off since it froze, so if i can borrow a camera in the very near future i'll probably put it in the record book.. it was pretty aggrevating and i haven't really wanted to play it since... it took about 4-6 hours (i wasn't really keeping track) so it shouldn't be that bad to do it again..

the part that really annoys me is that i was actually having a lot of fun doing it and did almost all of it in one sitting with a few smoke breaks here and there... so it didn't seem like it took that long at all...

I kind of wished I hadn't gambled to max my money---I don't really have a reason to do brown thunder....and it seems like I never have that many hours in a row to play--- I don't want to try if I can't go over 400 levels at least.

Another question.... do you prefer to keep your wanted level down (so you don't have to pause to kill the choppers) or do you let it go up so you can get extra destruction/kills??? I'm assuming its the first since you were trying to go to higher levels.

I'll get off my butt one of these days--- I think I've flown the hunter enough that I can do ok with the L1 firing now-- although it still feels un-natural.

I think if I do try brown thunder (for record purposes), I'm going to tape my game so I can show proof of my highest level in case it locks up-- I was nervous when I broke the VC one.

The dancers are better then in VC--especially when you tip them-- I've been in the one in LV, the one in LS, and and the one in the country way outside of LV--- I don't know why but when I first went into one, all the dancers standing around would duck down and the bar tender would act like I was pointing a gun at her....the last time they didn't do this--I didn't have anyweapons the the last time but it was also after I did the oysters so my sex appeal was higher--I was wearing the same clothes (I'm still wearing the Chilliad race outfit :dopey: )

it doesn't take long to get used to it.. although it had probably been a lot longer since i've used the hunter in VC so that's not as much as an issue i'm sure.. i find the hunter fun to fly around and since it gets stronger and stronger it doesn't matter if you run into stuff now and then..

i think my highest in VC was 16xx lvls.. for about 100 consecutive lvls out of the 500 i was in or very close to tierra roboda the whole time.. usually there, in the tunnel, or bayside.. all very close together.. so that went very fast.. i noticed that the quarry is called "hunter quarry" so i'm thinking that maybe there is some corrolation there... next time i mess around with the hunter i'll probably do some experimenting..

oh, about the wanted lvl.. in the whole 500 whatever lvls i never got more than 2 stars.. after the last time i ate i didn't get 1 star for about 20-45 minutes, and then i had 1 until it froze.. it seems like the farther you go the harder it is to get stars.. i purposely shot rockets at police cars and it never gave me any stars for it (this was past 450 or 500 lvls)
 
can someone please explain to me how to get a goatee, and an afro?
ive seen some of the pix on the forums in herewith cj sporting both of these "haircuts" and i just wondered how you can choose two of the styles at once..... anyone know, or even care enuff to answer me?
 
Go to Old Reece's in Idlewood, Los Santos. There's a hair style called "Afro & Goatee".

At all parlours, you can choose various hairstyles with goatees, beards, moustaches, etc.
 
The blonde cornrows cost the same as the normal cornrows at $500. If they're not the most expensive they'd be 2nd.
 
Nope, the Elvis cut gains you no Respect and no Sex Appeal, believe it or not. But they are $1,000.

The haircuts that gain you the most sex appeal are:
  • Cornrow.
  • Blonde Cornrow.
  • Detail Cut.
  • Groove Cut.

All give you 30 Sex Appeal points.

The haircuts that gain you the most Respect are:
  • Cornrow.
  • Blonde Cornrow.
  • Groove Cut.

All gain you 30 Respect points.

Ok I just read this on GTA forums and it was verified (that it works) by one of the mods there so I believe it....For people having problems passing the chilliad challenge races...

here ya go...

First of all I'll start by saying: this glitch deserves to be in the game, the Chiliad Challenge is way too hard.
Here's what happened.. I was going to try the Chiliad Challenge (first race) for the 10000th time (I suck at it) and I race em til near the end I hit a barrier and fall off. I pick my bike up and by the time I get cyling again they've already passed the finish line so I got really annoyed. I got off the bike and snipered em from near the finish line but not actually passing or touching it. When I killed em all I got back on my bike and passed the finish line and it said 1st place. What an amazing glitch.

Note-- I read throught the discussion and there is a little more to the glitch---

You have to be in 6th place and all 5 of the other bikes have to be in the corral-- apparently you can only do this with the sniper rifle (stealth) or they will all ride away-- you might be able to do it with the silenced pistol also--(maybe)-- it doesn't work every time but it does work. It also does work on all 3 races.

I have not verified this....

Go to the gym in Las Venturas, and through the bomb garage next to it. Stand in that alley and look at the building across the street to your right -- and you'll see people jumping and walking off the roof. It will only happen if you stand in that alley and watch it from there. It's pretty much a Lemmings Easter Egg since Rockstar North made Lemmings (the company was known as DMA then)

i'm in the middle of vigilante missions right now.. but i wonder if you get credit for the people wasted and how fast they spawn?

edit: well since i can't tell when the hunter is gonna blow up with enough time to jump out.. i was blown up at lvl 488.. looks like i'm gonna have to do it again.. i'm up to about 1700 or so vigilante lvls total lol
 
Guys, was the death of your mother only a pretext to bring you back to San Andreas.

The way they presented it, it looked like you were there to make light on the misery that surrounds the death of your mom, but no mission what so ever make any relation to this.
 
He came back to bury his mum. He then saw what OGF had became and tried to help bring it back to its former glory with Sweet. At least that's the way I saw it.
 
Blake's right on the ball. CJ came back to Los Santos to bury his mother, but decided to stay as he seen the state of his old friends and wanted to help bring it back to the top.

He never really gets to bury his mum does he, he gets to the cemetary and some Ballas are their aren't they? I can't remember that mission well.

I disagree... He actually comes back and at SA Airport Smoke rings him up and tells him his mum is dead... So Technically he was already back before he knew anyway?!?

PS My game's only froze once whilst I was doing City Slicking... at the top of the bendy hill... Good thing was I was golding everything and I'd golded all but that one and at that time I decided it would be a good idea to save... then 5 mins later on about my 5th run of City Slicking it froze up... had I not saved it I would've probably beaten my PS2 senseless (That is if it's not senseless already?!)

Not true. That call is basically a phone call before he planned on coming back, but dubbed over the top of the cut-scene. It's to make the whole scene a bit more interesting. They use that effect in the movies. ;)

(censored) (censored)ing (censored) (censored) BMX.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the south-western most corona on this (censored)ing piece of (censored) (censored) mission? It's the one on top of the wooden (censored)ing half-pipe at the bottom end of the park - right on the flat bit on the top.

I have maximum cycling skill and can bunny hop a few hundred miles up, but I can't get near this (censored)ing (censored).
