My take on how a 3.8 twin turbo model could look.

2011genesis38twinturbo.jpg

A man can dream can't he...

He's right. I sat in a 2.0T Track model, and the interior doesn't even look that good compared to the Si. It's a shame that exterior color of the car seems to dictate the color inside though, or that's how it is according to Build site.

No, it goes like this: 2.0T base and premium get black cloth. 2.0T Track gets red/black. 3.8 GT gets brown leather, and 3.8 Track gets Black leather. The 3.8 base either gets black cloth or black leather... not sure. Pretty sure it's cloth.

Ugh, leather in a track car...

It's not a track car by any means.

At 3400 lbs, the 3.8 Track is still a very capable GT car.

The seats are ideal, they provide great support without the obnoxious back pains one can expect from a race bucket seat.

Really, it deserves a test drive and to be unleashed. A lot of power was left on the table with the 3.8, a LOT!

Here's the SEMA report from a post by Fleshbox from GenCoupe.com:

Man, I turned down going to the formula d party tonight, my feet are killing me! lol. We hit the south hall, up and down, and the center hall, as well as outside today. Crazy stuff.

Anyways.. Here are pics. :) I am editing them out of my previous post because those were poor quality :)

The Seibon car. This was right inside and the firstone I saw. I was nicely impressed that a gen was basically getting front door exposure.

Of course, we all know and love this car :)

This one surprised me, I've not heard anything about it before. All three of these cars are right up front as you walk into the center hall, which is where most of the big names and cars are.

The injen car was toward the back of the center hall. I was just wandering around waiting for the Hyundai press event.

The all important r spec! I'm not posting a ton of pics, since it pretty much looks like a track.

The hennessey car was in the Hyundai booth. Turbo'd, they are apparently expecting 500hp out of it, but it has not been dyno'd

The Greddy 2.0 turbo. I don't recallthe specific numbers but I think it was around 325 maybe? I will have to confirm that...

I have to apologize to this guy. I don't remember his last name (or know how to spell his first...) but Larry knew him and he helpped build the RM460. Really cool guy and he hinted that Rhys may possibly be competing in the RM. He confirmed that they decided to stay with the stocksheet metal rather than replacing all the panels with caron fiber, which kind of surprised me. Though putting the Tau in the back really evens the weight out, and I imagine that keeping some ofthe weight up front is advantageous

And lastly, something to haunt your dreams... I found it somewhat funny that Ford is a major sponsor of SEMA this year but the floor was basically dominated by Camaros. This is quite possibly the single most hideous Camaro at the show. Even more odd is that it was sitting in a sea of Camaros under the bowtie.

That mid-engine V8 monster is just simply mad. Not to mention, I find ITBs oddly attractive.

Not in THAT way, mind you...;3

I almost want more pics of that Camaro before judging it. and that mid-engined monster is.. very alpine-ish in it's approach. why longitudinal mounting of the engine instead of transverse?

That mid-engined Genesis is really nice, but I need to learn more before I'm really convinced that it is truly legit. Are there any specs on it?

Yes, it's very legit. Rhys explains everything here:

I'm sure he'll build upon that platform for next year's Pike's Peak car.

We got word at work today that the R-Spec has been confirmed and should be arriving in dealers after SEMA. I want.

Yep, they're already on US soil. When I talked to Derek Joyce on the thinktank, he said he wanted to see if they could do v6 R-specs too. He said it all depends on how the R-specs sell, basically. The door is open and they're ready to capitalize if the demand is there. Also, the R-specs are getting new camber bolts that'll be available as an accessory for the other cars. I think the original ones only went to like -1 or -1.5 degrees, and the back only did -.5. Can't remember what the max is on these new ones but I think they were supposed to be good for at least -2.5deg.

Yeah I read that too but I don't know how useful it's actually going to be. I think anyone that is seriously going to track the thing is going to have some kind of after market suspension on it anyways, kind of reducing the need for so much adjustment in the camber since it's going to go a bit negative once the car gets lower anyway.

Cloth seats as well right?

Also, are you just a big Hyundai fan or do you work for Hyundai in some way? I work at a Hyundai dealership, so I hear about things sooner than most people, but it seems you're on top of the game about them.

Yes, cloth.

I stay on top of Genesis news because, whoopdie-do, someone made an interesting pair of cars for a change. I want them to succeed if it's going to mean a flood of new, cheap RWD cars. I don't work for Hyundai but I drive one (a crummy Accent). They accepted my application for their Hyundai Think Tank, so I get AFP and all that too.

Not so sure I'm going to get a coupe, though it'd be on the short list for new cars.

Why would you go to Hennessey to get your Mitsubishi-engined Korean car modified?

That Camaro is pretty bad, but I'd like to see more angles of it.

It's not the mitsu engine, and I wouldn't go to Hennessey period.

Woah wait, the U.S. doesn't have the Genesis on sale right now? In Canada, it went on sale during the summer.

Yes, it does. Canada and the US haven't had the R-spec until now, however.

I'm an idiot. Hyundai doesn't make a 3.8L I4.

But seriously, it doesn't make any sense.

Hennessey is ...well... pretty notorious when it comes to customer relations and customer service.

Actually... very notorious.

I know. And that's with "Throw a rock at it to add 50HP" Dodge Vipers. That someone would go to them to tune their Korean car is baffling.

Basically a Genesis coupe, but a bit lighter, Stripped out.
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/15/hyundai-announces-pricing-for-2011-genesis-coupe-r-spec/#comments

Going back to the basics of " stripped out rear wheel drive Asian coupe" remind you of anything from back in the 80-90s?

On the outside you get some new 19" special R spec factory rims, which look great. It's 68 pounds lighter, and 4000 grand less then a "Track package"

You still have the big brembos, 19" rims and other racey things like Torsen LSD, But for the out of the box tuner fans, you get adjustable front strut camber bolts.

No nav, no cruise control, no auto leveling headlights, just a proper 6 speed "manual" and the drivers seat.

You forgot to mention that this is the 3.8 R-spec. The 4pot has been out for a while. Well, this is good news but you could've put it in the Gen Coupe thread. I remember being in a chat with the Genesis project leader when they were contemplating the 2.0t R-spec, and he said they'd try a 3.8 if the 2.0 sold well. Looks like that's the case.

I was aware that the 2.0 was the only one being put into production, was not aware there would be a 3.8, that right there is excellent news!

So...why couldn't they just give this a bit more power? Taking 68lbs out of the car that's great. But not including at LEAST 10bhp increase is not that great. I'd rather just save my money and spend it on mods to the standard V6. *shrugs*

You don't get it. This is the standard V6. Except it has an LSD and different camber bolts. All the go parts, none of the show parts. This is the car you buy to mod instead of buying the loaded Track trim.

Not to mention the loaded fully track trim is pushing a little over 30 grand, So this is basically a steal. This is a modern day sports car unplugged. Cant wait to some track numbers with a good tune.!

If this is a special hot track model with all that extra work to the suspension and rear end why wouldn't you not expect to get even 10 measly more bhp? I'm not asking for a fully loaded nuclear bomb, just the simple stuff like an intake and exhaust? Hell even just an intake would do the trick.

A steal would be everything you see here with more power.

Don't get me wrong I love this coupe, but to think you've got this "lightweight" special track model but without more power? The ONLY good thing is that it is at least cheap @ $27k.
