I checked the Hyundai dealer today, and we're without Gen Coupes for a bit. They have one i30 and a handful of Genesis V6 and V8 sedans. But... No gen coupes. I'll have to check in every week or so to see if I can take a 2.0T model out for a spin.

So it's actually a little slower than the G37 then? How reliable are Edmunds normally?

Err, what?

Edmund's does good acceleration testing. They do explain in the article that there's a torque-reduction strategy used to preserve the clutch, which cuts power after you shift.

Which means... the automatic will be faster...

I've driven the automatic V6 sedan... and with the extra pork, that one does 0-60 in 7 or less. The automatic coupe should be good for 6 flat.

Indeed 👍

Err, what?

Err, what again?

Maybe they haven't heard of the Bathurst 12hr, where, and correct me if I'm wrong, a Hyundai Sonata won its class in the 2008 race, beating out an AWD naturally aspirated Impreza. Maybe that's where the inspiration for the name comes from.💡 Otherwise the name "Bathurst Black" is a bit strange, is the coupe even being sold here?

Bathurst black is probably used through the Hyundai range, name would stem from the 12hour enduro as you mentioned. I don't even know why Edmunds bothered to even mention it.

Yeah, I'm wondering whether they left the TCS on for the test. TCS cuts horsepower by 10-15, and since it's drive-by-wire, it limits throttle position as well. I mean, it shouldn't be that much slower than a G in a straight line.

I want to see how the 2.0Track and R-spec perform as comparisons.

edit: Okay, Motortrend just put up their review. They're getting 5.5s 0-60 with auto and manual, and 14s 1/4mi. Edmunds must have crappy drivers, or they must've left the driver aids on.

Car and Driver Has Their Review Online

Seems like they like it, which is a good thing. I keep seeing it as an overgrown Celica with the proper power application, which trust me, is a very good thing. I'll be hunting a 2.0T in the next week or two or see, and hopefully drive, and I'll post my views when I know more.

EDIT:

C&D Has A Review of the 2.0T Out Too

Too bad it comes out a month from now, right when the Camaro will be rolling out. Still, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled.

Yssman, I wouldn't expect the 2.0 until late march/ early April if you guys still haven't gotten the v6

Edit: Wow epic fail on my iphone doubleposting a half hour later

When I drove through the dealer yesterday, my ultimate hope was that there would be one wrapped up in the storage lot behind the dealer; But all was lost. I should have gone in and asked, but no one even came out to talk to me while I looked at the i30 and the updated Sonata.

The Coupe has come out in our market... damn... despite our horrendous taxes, the 2.0T undercuts the WRX, while the 3.8 V6 undercuts the STi... by quite a margin.

I might actually be able to afford this car... :D

wow. I'm posting here from the ft lauderdale auto show. I know that t my next car will be a hyundai now. Mom wants a genesis sedan and tye gen coupe is absolutely awesome. I fit wonderfully. The camaro has to be thw biggest auto disappointment of my life. There is no rear vision and the front windshield is terribly high. It feels like a truck. The gwnesis coupe is better by far. The only downsides to the coupe are some of the plastixs. The bottom door panel is hollowish and so is the top rear it's solid at thw inside handle and the mid level rhough. The plastic grill is also kinda cheap.

Still better than the camari though. The camari is so bad that I'm not even considering it anymore  they got the mustangs locked up so unfortunately I can't compare those. I also like the gen better than the g37. The g materials are better but the gens design is better. I also sat in the 370z. Even less visibility but it feels like a rocket cockpit.

Anyway, gen coupe gets a thumbs up!

I had a first look at a Gen Coupe today, and in general I'm pleased. The car looks much better in person than I had expected, the proportions are just right. Its a quasi-evolution of the former Tiburon shape, but you can tell it means business. I couldn't tell what the trim package was on the car in the showroom, but it was equipped with the Brembro brakes, a slight body kit, and the keyless entry system.

Moving inside, thats where my mixed feelings come from. The dash and center console is very good; I found the plastics to be of pretty high quality, no better or worse than your average Honda or Volkswagen. But, the door panels were rubbish, and as the interior moved further away from the driver, the material quality seemed to suffer. The seats were pretty nice, but I get the feeling that there won't be enough support for some serious driving (I personally felt like they were a bit too flat, even compared to my Celica). I would have liked to have spent more time fiddling with the buttons and knobs, initial impressions were that it all looked and felt the same (read, could be confusing), but I assume that spending more time with the car, I'd get used to it.

The back seats were useless as well (not like its much different for any car in the class perhaps other than the GIGANTIC Challenger), but I think the greatest disappointment was the trunk space - or the lack thereof. It was wide, and was fairly deep, but the volume was a bit too shallow if you wanted to get much in there. I'd bank on at least a golf bag, but it may be a struggle to get two. Of course, there is always the back seat... But lets hope you don't have friends with you. Truth be told, I think there is more room in the back of my Celica (both the seats, and trunk) than there is in the Genesis. Weird.

Overall, I'm pleased with the car. There wasn't a sticker price on the car anywhere that I could find, but I'm guessing that it was a bit higher than I'd have liked (I'm guessing that this particular example was scratching at $30K, a likely occurrence up here in general). I'm getting the feeling that the 2.0T Track would be up my alley, as I generally prefer my cars a bit more spartan... But until I take one for a drive, I'm in the "like it, but not love it" category. For now.

I saw a blue one outside of the Stonebriar Centre mall and it looked absolutely gorgeous. My girlfriend even said she thought it looked really good. I really really like it and can't wait to drive a V6 6spd model. :D

Brembos = Track trim. I disagree with you about the seats. The seatback is the most comfortable I've ever felt. It doesn't feel flat at all for a big guy like me. The bottom bolsters could be placed a little wider to help hug the thighs.

My mom fit in the back seats fine... only problem was that she could rest the very upper top of her head on the inner roof. There is more room if you put your head behind the roof under the glass, but I can see someone getting a bump if you had to stop short while they aren't paying attention. No worries if you're 5'2" or shorter.

Now for the trunk, Yssman, are you kidding me? The trunk on this thing is huge for a sports coupe! I can't believe you're gaga over the camaro and you want to call the Gen's opening small. You could fit a few bodies in there (but keep it on the down-low  ).

The 2.0 track will be exactly the same on the inside and out except for engine, gear ratio, and black leather/red cloth interior. I think you mean the 2.0 R-Spec when you say spartan.

I agree with about driving it though. For me, this car is, "Ready to love it; gotta drive one."

TBH, I didn't check the trunk on the Camaro, but the trunk in the Genesis is smaller than what I have in the Celica. That just seems strange to me, especially since the Genesis is much larger. I didn't check if it was a full-size spare under the mat, could that be the problem?

It's big enough to just fit two (or one, at least) jumbo suitcases, which is big enough for a sports coupe. You can't do that in a 370z or a Camaro. You might be able to in a Stang but I don't know.

edit:

Good news, everyone!

Here are the results from a Korean tuner's ECU reflash of the stock 2.0 Turbo.

BK20_Turbo.jpg

Approximately 35PS gain and 12.5kg*m torque increase. Again, that's stock with the crimped exhaust.

You can see they leaned out the standard mixure a lot on the top end to a reasonable mixture (11:1), standard mixture is through the floor. The engine is still making good torque/power all the way to rev limiter.

Someone on GenCoupe said the injectors were maxing out at 5.5k rpms.

Probably because they're dumping twice the amount of fuel needed? Those AFRs in the dyno for the stock car are insane! If you follow that line to where it seems to be heading, AFRs at redline appear to be somewhere between 7:1 to 1:1.

Typical for a "chip" job. Gobs of torque... nice flat power curve... I'd be pretty disappointed with "only" about 220 whp... but I'd be happy having over 200 whp for over 4000 revs... talk about torquey!
