I thought Shutokou Battle Online was cancelled before it had a full release. I heard there was some kind of beta and then they just killed the project.

That seems like a pretty obscure edition. I can't even find any gameplay vids on youtube

I have found a few while looking up SBOL:

And this play list seems like some of the music from the game:

But other than that, not much without digging deeper

2017 is starting to look up with (hopefully) this and the new NFS underground 3

How did you know that the next NFS title will be Underground 3?

But anyways, I may have never completed a TXR game but maybe this one might entice me to complete. So far the closest TXR title that I've completed is Street Supremacy (which the crew version of TXR).

Yeah I probably just saw too much fan made stuff and assumed it was official

Sigh.

Famitsu App, Famitsu’s smartphone application-dedicated website, posted about the countdown website, meaning that it might turn out to be a smartphone game.

I've read that some of you will be okay with SB continuing on as a mobile game. I'm not. This will be devastating for me if this turns out to be true.

It's a strong possibility, I mean Genki isn't what they once were and in recent years they've been focusing on handhelds and phone games. The thing that I don't get is why revive GRP for a phone game? I don't know just throwing some thoughts out there. Hate being a downer after all this waiting. I love the series so much, seriously do not want them to go this route.

I cant find what I originally read back in October, but there are a few sources that say there will be a new nfs. I might be wrong about the underground part, but to be fair there are a bunch of "fan made official" stuff for the underground part
That may be true considering that Ghost has mentioned that NFS2015 laid the foundations for the 2017 title but then again there was also the news that EA registered a trademark name called Need For Speed Arena which is judging from the name IMO is like Dirt Showdown.

If SB:X ends up being a mobile game, I hope it's friendly to medium to low spec phones because more mobile racing games require high spec phones for better experience.

Lame. Well, thanks for the correction. Well, I guess we have 8.5 days to speculate on what GRP is up to. If it is on a cell, maybe I can figure out a way to rig a wheel and pedals to my phone

My main problem with a phone game is it never leaving Japan.
Oh that. Let's hope that they don't pull off a "C1GP Battle" skit.

Anyways as for the car list, I'm gonna guess that it may be inspired from the latest Wangan Midnight arcade game with foreign cars added such as the Mercedes SLS AMG (replace it with the AMG GT for SB:X) and more. They could also take cues from NFS2015 with a mix of supercars, tuners, and classic/modern muscle cars.

Idk if I can take the disappointment if this isn't a real txr. If it's an itc remake I'll live but any less and idk if I'll survive.

I won't mind if it's gonna be a mobile release.

More people interested in Shutokou Battle Mobile = more interest in the franchise = new console sequel

Also, Honda should make their licensed debut! Thanks to NFS 2015, we know that they're lenient now when it comes to appearances in illegal street racing games!

Holy hell. Is it possible to still play this in an offline state? This looks amazing.

Come back in like a week. And for the l of g, lower your expectations until they reach molten iron. That goes for everybody.
Now I heard from some that it might just be a mobile game instead since this was posted on Famitsu App, a mobile game website. But I disagree, mainly due to three reasons:

1)What kind of developer creates a countdown page for a mobile game? Most of the time countdown pages are for major events and/or releases, something I can't see a mobile game being.

2)Shutokou Battle X or Import Tuner Challenge, is a console release.

3)Genki (the developer of the series) has been listed as a PS4 developer since 2013 and yet until now they have nothing to show for it. Why would they bother spending money getting a license to develop games for the PS4 if they're not going to do anything with it?

I should clarify that is advice I give when it comes to pretty much any game.
I have hype addiction.

Stupid question but has Famitsu app ever posted anything non mobile gaming related? If yes maybe we could get some kind of explanation as to how the new TXR game may not be a mobile title?

I'm hoping its a new console game, but if it isn't, a mobile game I could play int he US would be choice.

Well from the translation I got, the article itself seemed to just be asking questions and isn't confirming anything yet. Let's not forget that officially, the last Shutokou Battle game was actually released in 2011 as a Japan only mobile game, so Famitsu App might've assumed it might be a mobile game as well.

Thanks for that. I always love discovering these obscure Japanese racing games. There's a ton of them in the PS1 & PS2 era and you never know when you might come across a hidden gem.

As for NFS though, nothing is confirmed yet AFAIK. NFS 2015 is already practically UG3, so if they go down the same route again it will be UG4. The only thing we know is they trademarked NFS Arena name, but that could be anything really.

Another possibility could be an MMO like NFS World. Since we already have NFS Edge which was an MMO for Korea only, this might be the international version. At this point your guess is as good as mine.

Anyway, sorry for digressing. Back to the topic :P

Speaking of obscure ps1 racing games, 'Racing Lagoon' feels like a TXR plus RPG elements on PS1. It is Japanese only, so I have no idea about the story but the game mechanics are pretty fun
