I specifically remember that the game has for its time, a very accurate and realistic created Shinkanjyo and Wangan as one of the tracks.Speaking of obscure ps1 racing games, 'Racing Lagoon' feels like a TXR plus RPG elements on PS1. It is Japanese only, so I have no idea about the story but the game mechanics are pretty fun
A proper, 90s-set JDM rpg would be the bomb.

Sucks to suck.Nah I can't play games now where it's visibly a down grade from current consoles. I just can't do it.

CarRPG wouldn't really work very well though, one of the basic of RPG is grinding for better gears and items. Players would not like having to race the same track over and over again just to get better items since it's repetitive and boring. Shutokou Battle somewhat averts this as it's an large open world game where the starting and finishing points will be different in every race and thus every race is different. In Racing Lagoon however, it's not an open world game (technically it is, but I'm talking about TXR, Forza Horizon type of open world driving) and each part of the map has its own race course with its fixed starting and finishing point. This means if you're unlucky enough to have an encounter with multiple opponents like Zubats in a cave, you'll have to keep racing in the same course over and over again.
Yeah, I've seen it mentioned in the Forgotten Racing Games thread here. Looks pretty interesting, albeit the physics look a bit shoddy
These games have always been about Japanese car culture exclusively. For that matter, I would love to see European and American highways as well, but I clearly doubt they're going that far. For now, I'll be happy enough if they improve handling, and add some diverse gameplay, like drag racing or trailblazer game. Chasing down one rival after another only can be monotonous at time.
And with all those gangs available, it would be nice to have some recruit system for single player, which could give you some kind of side-missions upon joining a team or these diverse racing styles I mentioned above.
I think the publisher is the only reason these games ever leave japan. I think in the past it was seen as a fast and furious cash grab. I mean TXR 1 had a trailer for FnF and crap from some car magazine. The dark pessimistic side of me thinks genki doesn't even want an international fanbase.Speaking of studios, I hope Genki is not going to have any problems finding good publisher in case they decide to cross national border with this title.
They'll be very lucky if they persuade Sony to publish their game, but I don't think it will happen. If I remember correctly, Ubisoft was the strongest publisher they have had so far. They worked on ITC together, so they may decide to work again.Sony might be the best be to get this game published outside of japan.

They made a bunch of educational games and horse racing games. also pachislot. I think the boss there got bored of easy money and wants to do something risky. Hell they built a real race car this summer.Honestly I don't think Genki are stupid enough to build a mobile game up this much. It'd be the end of them, imagine the dissapointment from literally everybody. Although I'm struggling to see where they are getting the funds for a PS4 game, we'll see though...
Oh yeah, I got Racing Lagoon for Christmas haha. That game is amazing it's just so hard to play when you don't understand any Japanese
I was thinking maybe they will kick things off with a 2017 ITC HD remake. And start a full sequel for 2018/19/20.Ian hoping for a 2017 release tbh, but that might be a it to premature.
The thing that keeps me hopeful is the revival of GRP. GRP was formed due to the success of the Shutokou games and it ended up having the Kaido trilogy under the brand among other games. To me this is a sign that Genki is ready to step up to the plate again within the racing genre.Honestly I don't think Genki are stupid enough to build a mobile game up this much. I predict a 2017 release.Think it will be 2018 or 2019?
Speaking of other highway games; if anyone is looking for a good one with quality physics, try Option Tuning Battle Spec R for PS1. It has outstanding selection of tuner cars you're not going to find in any other game, and handling is very realistic. For instance, I like how you can't retrieve from a slide if you push the car too hard, that is hard-core sim racing territory!
On highway tracks you have to avoid traffic, that is the TXR connection. Check this video (it is time trial so no traffic appears though):
While they do get more revenue that way, they also have to spend more money initially to make the game appear on multiple platforms. Conversion is also quite difficult, especially when converting for or from PC.I don't know if it's possible, but best case scenario would be making a game that is easily ported to all platforms (PS4, XB1, PC, arcade, mobile). Just make the best looking game you can, and port it down accordingly to the platform. Just one development cost and you get revenue from all sources
Patience definitely. If I remember correctly, it takes countless of two-lap races over and over again to unlock all the cars. I do understand they were trying to extend the gameplay by forcing us to beat all rivals with every single car, but without even minor diversity in how you compete in these races, it becomes repetitive quickly.I used to play that too when I was bored with GT1/2. Pretty good physics as you said (better than GT1 even). Wide variety of tracks too - I remember it has circuit, touge and wangan (and one more location - I forgot). Career mode is so hard though and I don't have the patience to unlock all the cars
