You guys do understand that the "soundfix" video is a user creation and faked, right?

Yeah, I feel like I've heard that soundbite before. Lap of Laguna in a ZR1 possibly?
And because I'm surprised didn't already do it in this thread, An example I did before GT6 came out:
I remember watching this when it was first uploaded; good sutff. 'If only' I thought to myself.
The thing is though (and I might be setting myself up for a beating with this one), I personally believe PD knows what 'good sounds' are. Them dubbing sounds in trailers is obvious proof. It's just their executions are not up to standard, mainly because their main focus in the past was obviously graphics and physics and sound maybe wasn't as much of a concern. But with all the recent backlash, they realise how important it is and now they're working on something even better that we have yet to see[or hear]( I'm with @Griffith500 and his theories).
In a universe where Japanese was easy to translate probably not.So! How about those placeholders, any word yet on them being replaced?
The Bathurst trailer didn't even have correctly dubbed sounds in the first place, you see the cars doing something and the sound is representing something completely different, it's like bad playback/lip synching, not to mention that they reused the same sample on 5 different cars with completely different engine configurations, just on that trailer alone, I'm amazed that some people didn't notice, In fact, that Bathurst trailer is remarkable for being one of their worst faked trailers.
Maybe GT7, who knows?maybe pd ll fix some cars sounds in the upcoming update
I would say this is the worst one:
As painfully obvious as the bathurst trailer was, I'm still stumped at how you go through multiple sounds for one car AND not sync up the audio for brakes and acceleration .
Kaz Also said the Heat haze, and lighting from the ps2's GT4 was not possible on the ps3 but yet i just seen it being done in Bioshock infinite. The bottom line is PD need some new staff. There have been many driving games on the PS3 that have more immersive and more realistic sounds than GT4/5/6.
The bottomline is sound is not a priority for PD and they do not care to use the correct samples.
If they did, they would have done so starting years ago.

It's particle based, not full-screen. Particle effects are the new full-screen effects. Watch this. Read this.
Using particles and finite distortion areas / texture lookups saves calculations, and is performed as part of the forward rendering. What Kaz described sounded more like they were distorting the whole screen (perhaps masked by the PS2's "famous" depth buffer) after rendering was otherwise completed.
Not really the same system, and GT6 struggles as it is with particles (smoke, dust, rain, spray etc.) Different game, different loads.
