Give us better sounds - PLEASE !!

tru but it's hard to deliver on all of this if there are so much factors in it. I agree in terms of sound PD has GT as a patent game so better sound files would be a plus. Having to factor 1) release dates 2) competition 3) making betas 4) limited technology (tho there is a way around this, but at a cost);PD chose to be in the middle point of where their games can stand. Rather than being the classic arcade type racing type, PD has a different approach hence why it still has a large following. If hadn't been for GT which is one of the originals, next to NFS, no other racing game would exist. Now don't get me wrong the racing games of today are pretty good, but would you compare your great grandfather to your son? Completely different things, if PD gave everything in deep High -Def and immersed everything on a bigger scale than what they did now, they'd sweep the market since no one will be able to compete. Also, imagine how much space on your PS3 it'll require not to mention the updates.

I hope in the future PD does fix both the sound and the damage system, well at least do more than give me a few cosmetic effects. I don't think my car should be able to walk away from a 200 crash with just a few dents. As for sounds stay consistent, if my start v8 start up sounds dramatic don't drop it to sound like a 8 bit racer.

PD is the only gaming company still living in the dark ages when it comes to overall sound design, it's absolutely terrible compared to what else is out there, pretty sad given the scope of the GT series.

No, it's the lack of memory (and PD's focus on other aspects of the game, resource-wise - i.e. graphics) on PS3 meaning they carried over last-gen, PS2-spec samples. The sound design (which does not begin and end at samples) is actually one of the more progressive aspects of PD's overall approach. GT5 does things with sound that no other game does, you just can't appreciate it that well because the samples aren't there.

"What's the point if the samples aren't there?", I can hear nobody saying. Well, should they sort the samples out for the next game, it'll be pretty obvious what the point was. PD played the long game with the Premium cars (targeting PS4), there's a good chance they're playing the long game with sounds.

I just let here a new sample of what other games are doing...in this case R3E...guess that car.

I would love to see the result of "guess that car" using GT5 in-game sounds.

I've always thought about this, for those that say GT5 sounds good how many would be able to name a car in a blind test? Not many I bet.

Yeah, PS2 cars on PS3, PS4 cars on PS3 and bugger all PS3 stuff on PS3.

PD stick to the hardware your target audience has bought for the game in hand.

Yeah, the only ones could be those that we already know like the Mazda 787b and some others, but with the rest hard to tell really.

By the way the car in the video is the Ferrari P4/5 Race car.

I failed that particular test. I've never heard a P4/5 Competizione before.

EDIT: Well, I guessed the engine configuration, even down to the exhaust and intake layout. That's just confused me greatly, because I expected the P4/5 C to have a V12, and I couldn't reconcile the sound it was actually making with that of a V12.

I did want to amend a bit, because my original post sounded a little crass. I know just about everyone wants GT6 to be more authentic, and to capture the essence of aggressive, powerful racing monsters, or even daily drivers a little better. For me, I'm hoping without the horrendous roar, or the distorted overhyped samples used in games like Shift and Forza 4. With that though, I hope we can adjust the various elements to suit us, at least the tire sounds. Those are the most important aspect to understanding how well your car is gripping the road, and how far you can push it around turns. I'm afraid sounds like those in Earth's link would drown out the tire sounds even more than Forza 4 does.

PD have been making progress in their sounds. Still a lot of cars to tend to, but they're getting there. I'll have to say that the PS4 is going to have a lot more ram available for those epic samples, so I'm not sure how far Kaz and the team can go with PS3.

Go to this youtube channel at your own risk, all it will do is make you hate sounds in GT completely

Just WOW, Notice how every car's tone in real life has it's own character, some are louder than others, some spit and backfire on deceleration, etc, etc. The only thing you can say about GT5 cars like the ACR and Cobra is that they sound different, not particularly good as they still don't scream or sound remotely threatening like the real thing would if it was high-revving next to you, they have no soul, and the X-Bow video confirms that either most of PD is tone deaf or they really don't care anymore.

I don't know what to think, Kaz thinks the sounds are too real, I wasn't really expecting a radical change but they didn't even try, in fact, I think it's a step backwards from GT5...You know, I'm not even mad or dissapointed, I don't even care for the franchise anymore.

I'm sure they will make better sounds since they have been working on GT6 since 2010 and they haven't announced a lot about GT6 yet so just wait until E3 :)

Were you around when Famine, among many others, explained, in technical terms, what KY could possibly have been talking about?

Honestly, the over reaction based on a single gameplay video and what appears to be a rushed presentation is hilarious.

My thoughts excatly based on the others reactions from one gameplay. One, and theres mindless whining... These guys are just children if they haven't even read Famine's explaination about what Kaz had meant about the engine sounds.

They're just :dunce:

Why would they show something that's not representative of the final release? Given the number of sound design related complaints that we've seen since GT5:P don't you think they would want to put that entire debacle to rest? There's no reason for them to be withholding real sounds for E3, that's just wishful thinking, when in reality you'll be getting the exact same synthesized lifeless drone programming from GT5.

Sounds in GT5 have always been fugly...

... and it seems they'll always be that way...

:indiff:

Not liking this "GT6" as for now... not convincing, not revolutionary... just another copy-paste game with a few add-ons...

We are still months away from the release of this "game"... maybe things can change??? :indiff:

Oh I know exactly what he meant, now tell me, does this sound any different from GT5 to you? So Kaz is pure words but no action, we seriously can't trust that man anymore...Plus, you shouldn't really point your finger this way because more people are saying that physics look like a ''hardcore'' PC sim based on 1 video.....1, so stop being a hypocrite.

"OOOOHHH, the car doesn't sound exactly like the videos I watched on youtube, this is disapointing, I am not going to buy GT6 if they don't fix the sounds, I'm quitting this failed franchise"

-Hurry up please :)

Pretty much every comment about Gran Turismo's sounds

Early GT5 build:

In case you don't recognize it, that sound is from GT5P's F430. The 458 in the full GT5 undoubtedly sounds different.

Yes, I know that what we saw in the gameplay video may be in fact the sound we'll hear for the X-bow, but for people to base this assumption on an early gameplay video is pretty poor.

See above.

Especially because the recorded audio has a very low quality:
The audio which you hear in the video was recorded via the television’s line-out headphone jack. It’s mono (single channel) sound, and doesn’t quite represent the sound that I could hear through the TV’s speakers. Although it’s not a radical change, I did notice a rougher, more visceral texture in the engine note that was more satisfying than what’s provided in GT5.
Will sound better on a decent sound system.
But even now I hear a very slight improvement (vid in hd via hi-fi system). It's not a drastic change for sure, but the Xbow doesn't sound that great irl anyway.

We'll have to wait for more accurate recordings.

And does actually anyone remember the big aero sound update? Or the spec 2 update? Or updates for the weider or similar? They're at least trying, so you can't say they do nothing at all.
Although I don't say it was all pefect what they did so far. I also don't say the sounds are astonishing. I'd like to have better sounds too, just to be clear.

different yes, good? now that's a different story, this is what a 458 sounds like in case you're unaware...
My point still stands. The sound you currently hear does not necessarily represent the sounds in GT6.

Funnily enough, I thought GT5 got the exhaust sound of the 458 quite right, just not the engine sound.
