Give us better sounds - PLEASE !!

If they remain like they did in the KTM video I will be really disappointed. I know people are defending it saying stuff about the quality of the camera, pointing out that it is in fact realistic ect, but it just doesn't have that that final factor of excitement for the full immersion, and it doesn't take a better camera to realise that its not a pretty sound.

I so hope they develop the sounds for the final product to be better, but my hope is thin.

Please get it right this time guys. I don't want another game with 4 Cylinder vacuums. Give cars like this a louder rasp instead of the whoosh.

To those who claim that GT sounds haven't improved over the years since GT1..

Compare that to the fully tuned GT5 Spirit R. Unless you're half deaf or haven't cleaned your ears within the last decade, you can tell the difference.

And yes, I do wish for improved sounds as well, but I also want to see a working throttle linkage on the XJ13, buzzer for the RX-7 and RX-8, and speeding alarm for AE86.. And audible supercharger whine.

GT2 soulds sooooo much better.

You must know they do want that it roars like a big piston engine (although it's a rotary in this case) and that turbo and bov sound! +"*ç%&"*"/!!!!
Especially how the tyres scream...

:dopey:

Man, the blow off valve noise in GT1 is more believable than GT5...Why can't they replicate and put something similar to that sound in GT6? I do agree the sounds have improved over the years, it just doesn't help there are so many generic recycled sounds and the competition has jumped far ahead GT in the sound department. Realistic supercharger whine wouldn't hurt either.

Sad really, considering I find the sounds of cars to be one of the most important aspects that contributes to the sense of immersion in any racing game.👍

posted as a comment to Jordans demo run, but thought it may be appropriate here:

. PD actually HAS the sound we all want, even in GT5! – they just mix in the microphone recording from the front of the car (with the intake sucking like a vacuum, belts whirring, valves clicking away, fans blowing) to a ridiculous degree.

Watch a replay or do a B-spec race at Suzuka East (maybe in the beginner section/japanese classics race if you want). There will be several good sequences where our camera/point-of-view will slowly and methodically go from being in front of the car to behind it. The difference is astounding. As soon as our pov passes the back edge of the car, it’s almost ALL exhaust note, and it is beautiful. Even on my crappy TV speakers.

It’s the mixing job that is getting us all messed up. What's extra strange about the phenomenon mentioned above is it does not apply to your car while racing, even in 3rd-person view (but you can sure hear the awesome exhaust notes from your opponents, at certain angles, loud and clear). Somebody please get inside Kaz’s head about this. We want the exhaust note to be dominant from all angles, including the cockpit. It is definitely a bit sad that after YEARS of loud protest, that whoever is greenlighting the incorrect mixing of car sounds is repeating this same old mistake.

Sounds aren’t even at the top of my list, but to hear the sim-racing, casual gaming, and motorsport communities constantly gripe about this issue is downright painful to me- especially considering they’re mostly right! I am very excited for GT6. When Kaz mentions the Loyal fanbase, I am certainly within that maligned group. I may be in too deep.

It looks like a TON of things are being improved for the upcoming title, but once again- simple decisions are being botched on the regular. This is easily fixable stuff. The people do not want “sexy” sounds. They want MEAN and NASTY sounds. :)

Just some simple "sliders" for the sound effects during gameplay could REALLY help us out.

Tire noise ....l..
Engine Bay .l.....
Cabin sounds ...l...
Air rush ...l...
EXHAUST NOTE ......l
Transmission ...l...
Crash effects ....l..
Environment ...l...
Crowd Noise ....l..

etc...

Compared to GT1, the build now seems like they are going through the motions, as GT1 has good sounds and more realism to it then the current model that is just robotic in nature. Sorry my nostalgia was kicking in.

But yeah the sounds has improved but isn't correct as has been stated and proven over and over and over X1000 again.

Epic! 👍

If the sounds aren't improved by E3 I might just lose all hope :(

Physics and graphics are already great IMO. Sounds are a very important part of the sim experience for many people, so making them artificial and lifeless totally ruins the immersion.

The Quattro S1 in GT6 absolutely needs to capture the spirit of a proper Group B monster. We need crackles and pops, turbos that scream "BOOST!", and a proper, rich exhaust note. DiRT 3 captured this feeling so beautifully, making me fall in love with such a beast. If PD can create "magic" with the graphics and physics working in harmony, then why not sounds?

I just feel PD's sound department are not doing a good job. They really need to take a step back, and not only rely on good sound systems to provide the type of sound that 10% of their audience is hearing. Most people are not using expensive sound systems, and I am sure they know this, T10 does, which is why they invested time in figuring out the best way to make the game sound better coming through basic TV speakers. And they did, though yes sometimes it is a bit OTT, but I would rather have a little exaggeration than just plain dull sounding car sounds. The sound is so integral into making you believe you are actually driving, the immersion is so damn important. I will reserve judgement for when it comes, but I am pretty sure I already know the verdict.

and please turn down that damned transmission whine. Give me the option. I don't care if it's realistic for the 1/2% of cars that have that sound in the cockpit (because all soundproofing was ripped out.) Just give me the option to turn it off. I can barely use customizable transmissions because of the ensuing headache that noise gives me.

People that say you need epic speaker systems. Well I record and mix music on this system, my speakers are much bigger and much better than what most people are playing with (Kef reference series), there are only a handful of cars that when this is cranked and EQ'd sound good. Now the guy who modified the sounds by running a seperate multi band EQ and distortion got some cars sounding pretty good but for the most part GT5 sounds terrible regardless of your system.

However good I could get GT5 to sound, I can get other games to sound better, easier. Looking at the XBOW example, yeah the real video was recorded using a cheap **** mic, but it sounds real, that sounds like an actual car with the actual noises you would hear in the car, and the GT6 version sounds like a hairdryer.

I wonder if they record their cars in neutral, having the car just sit at idle then rev up. I know Forza was recording their car sounds while the cars were under load on a dyno, and their sounds are pretty nice.

Use higher final gear ratios.

The iRacing staff are really starting to get things sorted when it comes to sounds.

I wish Kaz would get his head out of his own butt for once and get external help with this but he won't and so we'll probably have to live with the vacuum cleaners for a good while.

i don't like the forza one, i've listened to this car IRL and GT5 got it right at low revs, then it's like everything else, the forza one sounds really fake and way too high pitched, last time i checked, the 787b did not sound like a f1 car

the 787B is a rotary engined car...if you don't think a race car with a rotary engine is high pitched then you've never heard one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZFwcrbCDSY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW6z35IceDw

those are two videos i captured with my cell phone at a race...the rotary RX8's drown out even the loudest of the V8 powered cars because they are so high pitched...

the RX8's are almost painful to be even NEAR at full throttle...GT5 has the sound ALL wrong...

I respectfully disagree but to each his own. The 787B is loud and high pitched, it screams when at full throttle, and the sound reverberates and echos loud when it fly's by. Forza's may seem a bit over the top, but the sound quality far supersedes Polyphony's effort.

agree completely...

Forza has got the best quality 787b sounds for sure, yet still manages to be off by quite a bit. In some ways I think GT5's 787b sound closer, despite bad quality.

With certain cars there will always be a problem with getting a true sound as I imagine it is pretty impossible to source a 787b and stick it on a dyno. I suppose the best way to do it might be to get a race prepped RX8 with straight through pipes and recordd that on a Dyno and use that for the 787B engine sample.

T10 did it, they recorded directly from a true 787B, I'm on iPhone right now but you can search it on YT, it's an official video by T10...

The funny thing is that the Spirit R is one of the worst sounding cars with racing exhaust, it's like they placed a vacuum on a dyno. No joke.

As fans of the series, can't we come up with a petition or something to get PD's attention, i mean honestly it needs to be a stop to these sounds.I'm seriously going to try and come up with a petition of some sort.

It's more then obvious the game sound is lacking, as much as PD are into Motorsports, how have those glorious sounds fallen on deaf ears? Sound is one of the key immersible sensations of driving a car, be it at any speed, i hate knowing the graphics are incredible, physics are incredible...yet the sound...what the heck is going on at PD? I really think a petition with alot of signatures is the best solution, a way to show PD that we are fed up of these mediocre digital tones with no heart or soul what so ever.

Petitions don't do anything. Kaz is well aware that people think the sounds are poor, it's up to him and the rest of the team to do something about it.

Kaz said he thinks the problem is in gt5 sounds are too realistic. That's pretty discouraging.

Also we don't know if he and his team know the importance of this matter.
