I said this before GT5, so its worth saying it again.

A racing Corvette sounds like this.

Not this.

Especially not this.

Sound engine ≠ Sound samples

This should be repeated a thousand times.

Sound engine ≠ Sound samples

GT6 and sounds are just place holders... Should be interesting to hear the final sounds.

Really curious about that. If they at least can make improvements like they worked on the Honda HSV sounds , for all cars, it'll be great.

The biggest victory is that they acknowledge that the sounds must be top priority and need a rework.

GTP: Are the engine sounds that we hear in the demo representative of what we will hear in the final game?

KY: “No, those are just in there as sound effects

Pretty much all I needed to hear regarding this.

Better then him saying "these effects are final as we do not have time to replicate new samples" also i trust kaz, Only because of the drastic change in the HSV-10, shows they do know how to make good sounds, that car is so enjoyable to drive.

Why did he say 'that was true until GT4'? Wouldn't that mean that the loaded samples were introduced in GT4? Possibly that was lost in translation...

Finally a straight up answer from Kaz regarding this issue. As long as I know they're really trying to make that "breakthrough" regarding sounds then that's good enough for me.

With that said, I expect SOME change when the final product arrives. At least we know they are listening. :sly:

My bro was watching the C6 RM video and he said the Vette sounds like a transformer crying :D (If you seen the movies) hahahaha

It at least gives us some hope, which is good. I will be happy with even a slight change, something different. I sick of the GT5 sounds, we need something fresh. Like you said, we know they are listening.

With some of the answers from Kaz in the interview I'd be suprised if GT6 arrives this year.

Lots of "Breakthroughs" to be achieved and big game decisions.

Hope I'm wrong though...

Probably are. He sounded as if the game would be released on time with or without these breakthroughs.

Here we go again. Don't get your hopes up, people.

I know, and they only started work on it last week! Oh wait...

I can guarantee you a lot of this stuff was planned for the PS3 from the start, in some form. Maybe people will realise the way PD works isn't to sack off things they can't achieve immediately, but to continue to work on it in the background - of course we generally don't hear about this, so the typical response, ad ignorantiam, is to call PD lazy.

I told you we'd not heard any of their recent sounds, and it was obvious they were working on it. I can also guarantee that the HSV has placeholder sounds.

Now to read the news.

EDIT:
Kaz
generate the sounds in a completely different way
We’ve been working on a new system for generating sounds for a few years now
Told you so! :P
Exciting, for PS4 certainly.

It was not obvious, given that we had no information one way or the other. People were guessing, and had a fifty-fifty chance of being right.

Now we know they're working on it. We also know that five months before release it's not in a fit state to be showcased on a demo in any form, they would prefer to use placeholder sounds. We have no idea what this new system is, what it entails or how it will sound.

At this point, they could as easily decide it's not going to be ready for release and we end up with the sounds from GT5. Kaz has been known to make wildly optimistic statements in the past. We can release any time we want? Please.

Yes it was, given the framework that was being set up around the recycled samples. I tried to explain this many times, but got shot down because apparently sound is neither difficult nor technical. Which is a load of bollocks, as I expect PD will demonstrate with this continuation of their simulation approach.

Don't expect it on PS3.

The HSV still lacks intake sounds but yes, it's pretty much PD's best effort.

That the sounds were recorded with the car under load on a dyno
There are videos about showing this

I hope we get improvments not only with the Engine sounds but the overall sounds, there is still stuff like Tyre squeal, break squeal ,etc that add to the experience /

Sorry for posting this elsewhere, but i find it important.

Here is part of an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi circa 1998 on Gran Turismo 1 (taken From Wikipedia):

“Yamauchi estimated that Gran Turismo utilized around 75% of the Playstation’s maximum performance. Sound design was one aspect that Yamauchi believed was compromised due to a lack of time. And although Kazunori considered the game’s artificial intelligence to be superior to its competitors, he remained unsatisfied with its development.”

Its amazing how nothing has changed in 15 years……. My bet is that GT is still, and always will be,
A great racing/simulator game that lacks in sound and AI.

We'll just have to wait for the full game and see.
Untill the finished product is out, we really can't draw any definitive conclusions on what it'll have of good and bad.

What are people's thoughts on this "completely different way" of generating sounds?

If it's what I think it is, we can look forward to much improved customisation and general variation due to tuning, as well as improved expressivity from the sounds when driving.

Interested in that also, plus Kaz mentioned the sound improvements will be of "High Quality" .Exciting times
