Sound processing is failing, there is really some big problems with it, cars sounds can fail during driving and then sometimes they come back to normal and sometimes not until few exits to menus and then back to track, sounds are better than on GT5 when they are working.
Technical problem on sound processing, PD Should really check whats wrong!

Is there anyone who have DTS encoder connected directly thru HDMI from PS3? If yes tell how your sounds are working?

Dolby Digital 5.1 have problems, channels drops and fades and changes to that "vacuum cleaner" time to time.

A lot of cars I hear from the gameplay videos sound like there's two layers to them. Watched a replay of the Mercedes SLS GT3 and it seems to have sort of a weak V8 sound underneath that main sound it.

Sigh, so sounds haven't been improved at all? What is wrong with Kaz and PD, with all the complaining I would hope they addressed this issue by now. It's one of the more important things that they really need to fix. I'm really starting to think that Kaz is partially deaf, if he's such a perfectionist about this game then we would've have great sound to go with the great graphics and physics.

I have been coming here for years, always avoided these sound threads. But the tyre squeal sound in GT6 is painfully bad. This needs to be fixed ASAP

Also the general volume of the sound effects is really wonky.

Which one? I found the sports and race tyres good, the comforts not so much - a bit screechy

And use Small theatre sound mode, fixes the dynamic range a bit better.
For example that MX-5 touring car in the license test is quite a lot louder, as a race car should be. Which actually sound quite good IMO, much better than the Miata Spec racers in iRacing for example

I like the AMG Vision GT as well - sounds like an SLS :)

I always wondered that myself. It must be a combination of the Japanese culture of loyalty, reluctant to change, game engine resources, and talent. Kaz said many times he has not played other games and when you live in your own world you don't know any better. If PD can source talent from let's say the Need for Speed series that would be fantastic.

I just read the interview on the news' page. Wow what can I say.

It actually started in a brainstorming session, when we were talking about the astronomical simulation for the game. As we became more focused and deeper in that project, worried about creating the stars and planets accurately, we started worrying about the details of the moon surface.

How about worrying about how the cars sounds in your game instead ?

For example, if you’re driving on Mount Panorama, and around nightfall you’re going to start seeing the planets in the sky and the stars; it’s part of the racing experience and we want to do it right and make sure that it’s represented, just as the clouds and rain and everything else is

For example, if you're driving a V12 powered Lamborghini or a Corvette, why don't you make sure that sounds realistic and life-like before looking at the 🤬 stars...

Sorry had to vent off after what I've read. I think they just don't want to fix the sounds....

Sounds like a bunch of 70's hippies sitting in a field smoking way too much pot :D

And then i read comments from people here saying the stars are exaggerated, and sometimes give a orange/pink light...

Anyway; it was easy for them really: "Let's brag about our 1200 car count",... "But wait then we have to revise all those sound samples too, we are already busy doing some touching up on their PS2 looks".... "Well let's just re-use all the old ones we have, the punters won't mind HAHAHAAA"...

LOL @ the BMW M3 GT3 Race Car... my god I cringed when I heard that thing - haven't tried the Z4 GT3 Race Car, small glimmer of hope till I hear it for myself..

After spending several hours on GT6 now I am sorely disappointed with the engine sounds. I have been waiting to grab my 15th Anniversary 1966 Ford GT40 Mk.1 since I pre-ordered this game and when I do it sounds like a "ricer" with a blown out muffler.....Don't the PD sound engineers LISTEN to the real motor before sticking a sound to a car??It sure doesn't sound like any Ford V-8 I've ever heard in my life.......

This is both hilarious and monumentally insulting.

"That damn moon surface! It's not accurate! Quick, transfer our entire sound department to our crater modelling team this instant! He can work on modelling the moon dust!"

Agreed. No need to spend so much time laser scanning the moon for a 100% accurate replication of the moon's surface. As long as the landscape is something that at least remotely resembles the surface that you would expect to see on the moon then people will still be happy. It's not like people are going to go to the moon with a magnifying glass and inspect any differences between the game landscape and the real moon landscape, is it?

And is also infuriating, since it seems that the game will have better sales figures than GT5. Which means PD won't change their policies.

It sure doesn't sound like any Ford V-8 I've ever heard in my life.......

The one that came with the 289 Small block right?

Should sound somewhat similar to this:

The video is an "oldie but goodie",it sure has a little clipping and it's just 480p but sounds better than anything I have ever heard in a GT game.

Imagine the MKII 427 screamer...

Well, great game so far.

Except sounds of GM V8's still suck.

Terrible.

Awful.

Pathetic.

No excuses since the Ferrari V12's and Mercedes V8's and Audi V10's sound quite good.

I cannot even drive the C7 Anniversary car anymore... it sounds nothing like the actual C7. It sounds ore like an angry 4 cylinder Datsun 510 with a broken muffler.

All this effort, fantastic game, unbelievable graphics, really good physics engine and crap sounds?

The only explanation can be is that Kaz is tone deaf and cannot feel/sense/fear the real sounds correctly, so in his minds ear the 'Merian V8's are perfect sounding like angry Datsun vacuum cleaners.

I have come accept this, parked the C7 and am enjoying the rest of the V6,10 and 12 engine sounds.
I've noticed that too, as well as others. I remedied most of that by upgrading the muffler a level or two which helps. All the anniversary cars appear to come with the sport exhaust upgrade which in GT5 sucked for most V8's. You should still be able to enjoy at least the stock C7 from the dealership though, assuming that with stock or semi race/racing exhaust gives a suitable V8 rumble. The physics are absolutely awesome in the game though.

This whole moon thing being implemented for GT6 just illustrates how far out of touch PD is nowadays; it's a nice gimmick for sure but like everyone above me says; don't spend so much damn resources on it searching the "drive for perfection" like the idol we have in common (Senna), when you screw up so hard and obvious in so many other departements that are vital to make a good racing game...

I love the sound of the X2010, I thought it sounded good in GT5 (one of the few) but in GT6 it is even better.

They already had the resources for the moon, they used Willow springs, removed the track and painted everything grey :sly: :P

What gets to me most is the start up sounds are perfect (when you change cars) For example, the '69 Camaro's start up is DEAD ON (source: the '68 Camaro in my garage) but in game? Nope.

Bingo. A lot of cars sound excellent at startup (the Evos are spot on I have one I know it well) but that's because that's easy to do. It's a simple recording that is triggered when you switch car, modeling an entire range based on spliced "clips" takes a bit of effort and skill which sadly seems like PD does not have. The folks at Turn 10, Simbin, and yes even EA got that down pat.

Maybe Euro/Down Under rubber is different, but here in the States, our street tires are screechy. In fact, after playing GT5 a few years ago at my previous big city address, there was a near collision at the intersection near my house. Sounded like it came right out of the game.

I know tire screeches in real life can be pretty loud, and I think the samples are decent, but I think its just a bit too loud in the game at times. I mean I know we're going for realism, but it is still a game, and sometimes the sheer volume of the screeches is sometimes unbearable.

What a waste of time an effort focusing on things that aren't really important, such as the moon. I agree with the other poster. Kaz and PD could you the time and effort to fix the sound in this game where it's much more needed. Sigh. I wish someone at these interviews with Kaz could really bring this to his attention and point it out how this is a really big issue. I hope this gets fixed or updated in the next big updates coming in Jan, or even sooner. That's my only #1 gripe with the game, everything else is pretty much excellent. Reminder, at the next interview, please bring it to Kaz's attention and ask him why are the sounds in this game not been fixed. They have been somewhat improved, but it's very minor. We really need a complete make over for the sound engine from scratch for these cars. Such a shame how this is the only thing making me not like the game, otherwise it would've been almost perfect.

I find the best sounds in a racing in NFS Most Wanted and Rivals, they have done an excellent job in the sound department, the sounds are pretty much identical. PD should learn something.

here is a test drive vid I did today of the AMG Vision GT - sounds a bit like an SLS :)
AMG did supply the engine sounds though...
You can still tell there aren't a lot of samples used throughout the rev range, gets a little "chipmunk" at the top end

Jump to about 2:30 to skip all the prelude

Also the Scion FR-S, GT86 and BRZ all sound different - kinda interesting that PD actually took the time to record them, even if they use the same engine

I'm guessing all the Vision GT cars will sound better as a result of the companies supplying the sounds :)

That is exactly what I'm talking about....the GT40 Mk1 in GT6 sounds like crap, nothing like this at all, someone should send this vid to the PD sound guys so they can actually hear a Ford V-8......

The Shelby GT350 sounds great. The new premium, not the recycled 350R. It sounds bad in lower RPMs but in the higher RPMs it sounds really good. So only 1199 cars to go!
