Am I imagining some in-game competitors cars sounding quite good compared to whatever I am driving? Not often, just now and again I think 'that sounds okay' when I am alongside.

Posted in another thread, but have you guys notice the sound cut in and out at times? Also the sound sample for exhausts sticking to only one regardless of how many times you change the exhaust in the car settings menu (before race)? Quite annoying and hopefully they can fix it in an update.

Sounds are bad enough, but now sound glitches? *Sigh*

The exhaust sounds not updating was an issue in GT5 as well; that was fixed relatively quickly, if I remember correctly.

The only glitches I've heard so far are the good old fashioned drivetrain one (wobbly rpm in certain gears / at engine speeds). That's as good an excuse as any for PD to overhaul the drivetrain physics finally.

Yes I've heard it as well at times. So far, I noticed it the most at Bathurst..so it could be a track issue causing sound issues. Lots of work to do in this department it seems.

Definitely a case of stretching the samples too far. I was driving today in the Corvette C7 Stingray, and the engine sounds amazing... at around 3800-4000rpm. But that same sample sounds like a coffee grinder when you ramp it up to 6000-7000rpm.

I really hope they revisit this someday, but I don't have my hopes up for it happening any time soon.

Even RUF RGT sounds very deep boxer-6 around 3000-4000rpm but goes weird beyond that. And with R32 you can clearly hear the growl of a VR6 around 4000-5000rpm but then the vacuum takes over :grumpy:

Honestly I think we would have better sounds if they stretch lower rpms sounds a little more.

Best sound in GT5 and 6 was always someone elses car from the outside:lol: Seems like you miss out on transmission whine, wind noise and other stuff to just get the pure exhaust sound..and many of them sound very good.

'66 Ford GT40 Mk1 (stock from dealer, NOT the anniversay car)
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept Racer (won from Goodwood events)
Lexus IS-F

^^^ Those are 3 of the best sounding V8's in the game. If you haven't driven any of them, please do. The GT40 sounds great while driving, but in replay mode it's just down right nasty. (in a good way ;))

I have now setting small theatre and 2.0 output. It might be a little better than before. At least metallic whine on high revs is not as loud as before. Press needs to put more pressure to Kaz on ancient sound quality compared to arcade games like NFS.

Cars that sound OK in GT6 or could be easy fixed (not driven that many yet):

- Supra Rz '97 sounds now stock like it sounded in GT5 with sport exhaust
- premium Ford GT MK1 '66 really nice stock V8 noise, should be added to the C6 ZR1 cause it instantly made me think of it
- Viper SRT nice V10 noise (guess the other vipers should be ok too)
- Alfa TZ3 stradale stock got the perfect soundssample for the Audi R8 Lms + Ultra
- Corvette C7 ... eww way to poor sounding
- Skylines (R32-34) sound about right (like GT5)
- GTRs sound is ok too, GT3 one is nice
- R18 TDI....same sample then the R10 TDI....although the R18 is a Turbo V6 the R10 a V12
- Aston Martin V12s ok same samples like GT5

Overall it is the same like GT5, some cars are decent others horrible.

Add the Shelby Daytona to that...awesome:cheers:

You know you are absolutely right about Bathurst. I noticed the cutting out of the sound the most on this track.

WARNING!! Diablo GT '00 soundsamples (for all who did not buy it yet)

You buy it with an sport exhaust installed: V10 soundsample :banghead:, install a semi-race exhaust...now you get a V8 exhaust sample , last chance race exhaust and there actually is a bit V12 in there...until it gets destroyed with generic high pitched crap samples :yuck:

On the other hand the Pagani Zonda V12 samples are a bit improved over GT5.

Engine sounds yes but specifically Exhaust Backfires!!! I have been to many live motorsport events, WEC / F1 etc. and those ear busting backfires with huge fire balls are so exhilarating! They are an important part of autosport that separates high performance cars from the basic commuter. How can a man obsessed with cars and racing overlook the most inescapable feature of racing...Sound!?!?

Heard the Diablo GT and Diablo GT2.....they sound horrible.
PD PLEASE fix the car sounds, these cars sound horrible.
I was really expecting them to give them atleast half decent sounds. :indiff:
Even the Nomad Diablo from GT5 (Didn't hear the GT6 one) sounds better then both Diablo's. :odd:
IIRC, they did say that they were going to update the sounds, so hopefully those are just placeholders. :guilty:

Theory time here...the new Red Bull X1 clearly has a V6 Turbo F1 sound. With that in mind, how about this...

I reckon it's the sound sample for one of the old Senna F1 cars we're going to get. All of the cars in that era he drove had V6 turbos (Lotus 98T, Lotus 99T, McLaren MP4/4).

It seems more likely to me that PD got to work with the sound of an older F1 car rather than recording the sounds of an upcoming F1 engine.

Unfortunately, even in GT6 the 'vacuum cleaner saga' repeats itself..
..and polyphony can never sampled sounds as it should.

Example of sound that disappointed me tremendously:
the Audi Quattro S1, a car that I've waited in GT for so long.

the Audi turbo straight five in GT6

the Audi turbo straight five in Reality

I really hope that a day will come an 'upgrade' with sounds sampled seriously.

They actually have decent samples from the most engines, but the cars they are aligned to are often totally wrong. So PD got the ressources, but they don't use them right.

Don't want to be banging ants here, but shouldn't this thread also be moved to the review and feedback section?

How did he get that in-car view?

Maybe, instead, there could be a new thread in that section for when the update comes. Leave this one in the main section for the circular discussion of the status quo (in quo sonum est), I say.
