The idiots in Ottawa have been seen waving Nazi flags around the Confederation Square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier monument.

This is a new kind of stupid.
Seen several people online upset about them putting a flag/sign on a Terry Fox statue.

high quality GIF
I mean, to you guys south of the border having to endure Trumpkins for the past 6 years it's probably not, but up here it's strange, outside of Alberta at least. The fact these dumbasses are waving Nazi flags around a monument raised to commemorate soldiers lost to German forces is just... yikes.

As it should be. You do not desecrate anything attached to Terry Fox and his legacy, any good Canadian knows this. He ran 3339 miles with a 1970s prostetic leg while battling cancer just to raise awareness for research, man's a legend.

Everything I've read about this comes across super-inflated. Just looking this morning, apparently local police put the protesters around 3,000. Saw claims of 50,000 trucks shared, but far as I've seen others report, a few hundred actual trucks & the vast majority smaller vehicles. Couple tweets I caught yesterday:

Hi everyone, thanks for bringing this to our attention. Earlier today, our staff and volunteers experienced harassment from convoy protestors seeking meals from our soup kitchen. The individuals were given meals to diffuse the conflict. Management was then informed of the (1/2)
issue and no further meals were given to protesters. Our soup kitchen is committed to providing meals to people experiencing and at risk of homelessness in Ottawa. This weekend’s events have caused significant strain to our operations at an already difficult time. (2/2)

My friend went down to see how messed up this is for himself. It’s not just Terry they also now Defaced Arthur Currie. This is so ****ed.. [photo included with tweet]

Then a video of Patrick King, a listed organizer just coming out saying, "This will only be solved with bullets".

And apparently, there's several Mega Threads on Ottawa's subreddit, I guess many listening in to a channel protesters on, sharing them running into issues with the locals fed up with their noise-making through the night & some businesses refusing them service.

How likely do you suppose it is that nun has covered for a kiddie diddler?
I don't know if you remember the oddly specific one member insurrection it inspired in this forum quite recently, but the Canadian Catholic church has had a pretty bad couple of years where "morality of things we may have covered up in the past" is concerned...

Yes I did. Did you??
Indeed I did
Not sure what you mean. I just shared a video of a protester from the trucker protest.

Thats up to the viewer to decide
Did you miss the interviewer rolling his eyes repeatedly, did you miss the uncited 'factual' claims and repeated factual errors from the, at times barely coherent, protestor?

I guess you did.

I must have seen a different video.

No, it has a simple explanation, it's called confirmation bias.

300% increase in speech impediments because of mask wearing by teachers!

OK!
I don't agree a 100% with what he said but I agree with his main point. What is your point? Seems like you are (again) just looking for a fight.

It's a man protesting against mandates posted in a thread about protests against social distancing, lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

I'll make prediction: The confusion, rancor and polarization generated by this pandemic will long outlive the pandemic itself.

No, and I've already clearly made my point about it.

By rambling incoherently and spouting nonsense. A point I've already made.

Even though I disagree with him, that guy made more sense than anyone else involved in the protest that I've seen speak. And as far as him being incoherent - it was about -20C in Ottawa on Saturday morning. That will make anyone incoherent.

It certainly has made people show their true colors, not in a good way. Luckily no one I know has completely lost their mind yet.
People of Earth are responding globally to a very unpleasant pandemic, and they are doing it in diverse and sometimes unpleasant ways. It will be a challenge for otherwise intelligent and respectable people to discuss it civilly without descending into the trap. If they do, I will change the name of the thread accordingly.

Lots of protests have been high jacked by bad actors over the years, this doesn’t dismiss the entire cause.
Can we dismiss it if the cause is crap? These same people claiming that they're entitled to visit a foreign country with an outbreak, unvaccinated, and return across the border, unvaccinated, are the people who would rail on about their "sovereign" nation and how Canada has a right to police and control its borders.

Speaking of visiting a foreign country unvaccinated, looks like Kanye West might be trying the same thing Djokovic tried last month when he goes on tour in Australia in February.

My wife is attending a conference in a few weeks. To attend the conference, everyone in attendance has to have a negative Covid test within three days of it starting. I have that test scheduled.

Before we can even get the test done, we have to get to Kauai first. Our options are to quarantine for 10 days (ain't nobody got time for that), show that we've tested positive within the last 3 months (we haven't) or proof of vaccination. Done.

In March we're going to a show at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. Everyone in attendance needs to have proof of vaccination to enter. Done.

If a vaccine and being in possession of a piece of paper allows me to have some resemblance of normalcy, you're damn right I'm going to do it.

Throwing a fit over "my rights" when we should all be thinking about "our rights" because you aren't just affecting yourself makes no sense to me.
