Gran Turismo 2 Was Released 20 Years Ago, Today

One of the best....Tahiti road I think is was winning that Nissian race spec and selling for $125,000 credits. Dozens of times.

Starting out with the red RX7 and building that baby up to 394 horse or so and moving up the race events.

GT2 is my favorite all time GT. GT1 was initially, but everything from the SN95 Mustang GT(Saleen included), Ruf, a daggone FF Cougar, FTO, BMW 8 series, 7 series, 323 4-door, the BTCC RMs! How Tina Turner sing it?:"Simply the best!!/Better than all the rest!". :sly:

I remember entering the local electronics store seeing this on the shelf totally ignorant of the fact a successor had been released. Many things that happened 20 years ago have faded from memory, but this moment stands crystal clear. Saved up for a few days and bought it a few days later. Still have it without any noticeable wear and tear. 👍

I'm slightly disappointed I missed out on having a Japanese version of GT2+ ready in time for the anniversary, I forgot it was so soon! It definitely doesn't feel like 20 years though, until I remember that GT4 is getting on for 15 years old now...

Wow i remember GT2 when i saw those mount of cars and trademarks i never know before.
The best car list ever.

My mind explode when i saw this thing in the dealership at the first play in the simulation disc.

How many would go into each dealership and each car model to see it it could be completely transformed to have a race body modification?
I seen most back in the day, but not sure if ever seen them all.

They need to revive all the great cars from GT past with the ones from today along with the tracks. What a glory day it would be, it would be like being a little kid and having xmas every day for 6 months in row until you have explored most of the content. Please hurry as that feeling is long over due. Sadly though GT limps along without transcending. It is no longer leaps and bounds above the others.

Ahhh, GT2. It's one of the games alongside GT1, 3 and 4 when PD actually cared to make a game and not abandon their old fans in favor of esports...

I'm hoping GT7 will bring back what made GT famous in the first place.

Gran turismo 2 was the first Gran Turismo game I ever played and one of the first games I've played in general.. Spent so much time with it in my childhood while I was playing it with my family.. Nostalgic times.

Must be absolute king especially in its time. In PS1 it has 600+ cars almost all has racing modifications, with 30 tracks, and varied events unlike GT1 that covers good part of the car variations and levels (hp limitations). They even had to separate the game into 2 CDs. The notable weakness is probably no damage (a little mechanical one if turned on) or cockpit view.

GT2's special trait is some cool cars that never returned in next games like GT90, Espace F1, Cultus, Lotus GT1, Venturi, Vector, etc... GT40 and Cobra Daytona are notable ones which returned.

oooohhh yes, I maybe tested all cars to see race modification.

I was young first time playing GT2. So I remember the 10.000Cr you have at the start, I searched a car under it, I saw the Fiat 500, making Fiat manufacturer serie races, So slow to earn credits... And I discover Japan manufacturers having used cars low budget... a new world was coming :dopey:

A little tuning to my starter car (Supra), then Endurance => Trial Mountain 30 laps => JGTC Denso Supra :) .
Easy money: GT All Stars, Red Rock Valley => Speed 12 => selling it to 500.000 credit :D .
GT2 is a love :) . My first GT :) .

A current generation remake of GT2 would be most welcome like with Resident Evil 2 and now 3.

More developers should remake classics with modern graphics.
Remaking an old racing game like GT2 is problematic. Aside from the licensing issues, I don't think you could get away with using the old physics engine. Also the old tracks have odd proportions which looks really strange when rendered more realistically. This is the excuse Yamauchi gives for why the classic tracks are missing in GT Sport.

The best option is just to emulate with the visual look that you want.

My adventure in the world of GranTurismo (from the game to GtPlanet, GTExD, racingline, etc etc ) started one evening in winter 1999-2000 with the following licence test on my brother PSX (at that time PSX was the short name for the PSOne) ..

it's not me .. :)
