Just got interesting email from finnish game store that gran turismo 5 is in the storage and waiting till release, so it seems this date is the real deal. (Finally...) :D

Maybe, just maybe PD was afraid of leaks, so they disabled some features in the game that become enabled at release date.
Do you think this is a possible scenario?

He said he only had time to try Arcade mode - so nothing much happens when you crash into a car or wall....

The thing that surprises me is how many people seem to only use Arcade mode - so far it seems 100% of the people with GT5 early copies just use Arcade mode.... Weird.

The guy got home yesterday, video'd the unwrapping, uploaded it and shared it here, then did an arcade rally and video'd that and uploaded that for us all.

Arcade mode allows you to try out a good selection of cars and tracks straight away, where as career you will have, one (cheap) car, until you've done a few races and then started license test grinding to get to the better races.

Career takes dedication, for a quick first look Arcade is ideal when first loading up, and RDK and Tekken are now on career and sharing that with us, infact RDK has already seen the first completion movie at level 17 ;)

There's something about that video I find a bit disturbing. Well, something else besides the Peugeot being RHD. He's using a few clicks of traction control but no stability recovery. And he's on what seems to be N2 tires. Nothing against RDK's skill but does anybody think it looks ridiculously easy. And look at that spin. It almost looks like an assisted recovery. It's a FWD car and should be very nose heavy.

based on alot of videos from him, i can only see:

he's playing with DS3 on easy/beginner settings because that's the way he likes it..

So go figure people, this is how it will be (and always has been if you play with DS on easy) so don't play with DS3 and on easy people, so that you'll feel the cars and drive them, then rather chucking joystick left and right to the end all the time...

That's the thing that makes this vid look odd...

The only reason why i tried the Arcade mode to see some of the premium cars, and the new stages immediately. Because in GT mode, you are forced to start with a used(Standard) car. Yes, you have to buy one BEFORE you could start doing the licence tests.

I'am collecting the money so i can afford to buy a Premium car and see how it is performing in GT mode, in terms of handling, damage, etc.

People that thought I work for PD or Sony are not correct. If that was the case I won't have added my PSN to the account. Not stupid :).

I have and do work in the industry though. There are cases were preview code gets pressed and shipped. There are even cases were a game is cancelled during shipping (My copy of NBA Elite 11). Most of the time if preview code is retail pressed it is caught within 1500 copies by QA. Sometimes we mess up and send those to reviewers though. Mainly because they usually get the first 1000 off the line.

Since this was caught a little further in the stamping process they decided to delay the game and destroy first run copies. After that when 2nd press started PD rep was there to verify the version.

All this is very easy to fark up because you send Sony, MS, Nintendo and there pressing partners an was is basically an ISO from there Dev kits.

So im guessing you work at one of the disc stamping factories?

So it looks like someone from PD or Sony sent the wrong file to the manafacturing plants? Fair enough, certainly adds up with events so far.

HAHA. Nope. I do work and have worked for various companies though. Not in China stamping discs though.

I just have seen this a couple of times before. Like I said people in QA usually catch this before it hits retail. Some review copies slip (with Xbox it is easier because you just host a download for debug units, well before the Reach issues).

I think most people understand things take time (and thanks for the videos you've posted already of course) but my main comment was directed at Tekken and RDK.

However, the vids that you and others have posted are causing a lot of interest and comment - and not all the comment is positive.

I think the reason for that is down to the lack of data about what these videos are showing.

As far as I can tell, they have all been taken from the Arcade mode, with various driving aids used and in one case a selection of "Medium" (not sure what this medium referred to though AI maybe?).

As a result of these videos, people are concluding that damage is removed, dirt-sticking is removed, and in some extreme cases that the videos are of bad copies of the game.

If the videos are clearly annotated as Arcade mode with aids, using pad etc then probably most of this furore would not have occurred.

NB: I base this opinion on the scan of the manual which included a description of the Arcade mode as allowing 2 player racing - so I guess the Arcade mode is restricted in terms of visuals and physics to allow for split screen besides the obvious "Arcade" (therefore light game) tag.

is not by RDK - it's by another user (GT5Launchstuff on youtube I think) who also posted the video showing a Standard edition copy of GT5 being opened.

So, the dust not sticking to the rally car is a problem because it is not RDK or Tekken's copy of the game, but a seeming new one.

Personally, I think the videos by GT5Launchstuff are probably final version. RDK and Tekken seem to have CE versions but no associated stuff (the Apex manual for example) so it may be they got copies which for whatever reason were removed from real CE versions - could be bad print runs, wrong versions or whatever.

that video of GT5Launchstuff looks fake...
where is the sony/playstation seal on top of the case with game name and holographic playstation mark??? 👎

Sorry if this has already come up, but searching did not yield results.
Has anyone been able to confirm the Premium/Standard cars? ie. the ones labeled S/P in PD's official list, what's the difference between these and full standard or premium cars?
Also, Can someone confirm whether the F40 is Premium or Standard? In GT5P it looked very detailed, and had a cockpit, but on PD's official list it is labeled as Standard. Is this an error, or is the car Standard? If so, is it less detailed, lacking a cockpit now, or has it simply always failed to meet a requirement for Premium quality (underside or individual parts detail, perhaps)?
It looks so far that the distinction between Standard and Premium isn't so clear... Hopefully a good range of Standard cars look as good as that Veyron.

Yes that is weird, I'd be all over GTLife. Man that just rolls off the tongue it sounds nice.:sly:

RDK a sweet video 307, i know it was a time trail race but when you go around the whole track does the day/night transition work? Or is it only available in 24hr mode endurance races?

really interesting.... thanks! So you're sure that the 2nd press process uses a different version of the game?
