If you say so. So how much different is the PS3 hardware being used towards PC hardware because when the ram on a graphics card in a pc gets full the system ram gets used which causes slow downs or stuttering.
The PS3 has 256 MB dedicated VRAM and 256 MB of shared RAM
However Sony was cleaver and it has done well for them with games like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Resistance 2, Heavy Rain, and various other titles. So no the PS3 only has 256 megs of General Purpose memory. The General Purpose Memory is Rambus XDR DRAM which has higher performance values to more than twice that of the GDDR3. If you're going to do any kind of work on the PS3 you want to do it on the GDDR3 not the XDR. Which is interesting because a certain console other than the PlayStation is using 512 GDDR3 shared between it's GPU and it's CPU which causes serious performance issues when compared to the PS3's configuration.
The only thing the PS3 needs to do has nothing todo with their system memory, but the video card memory with all these new LED LCD TV's, the bigger the image the more Vram it's going to need, or at least fast Vram, this hardware for the RSX was equal to (if you remember at the time) 2 8800 ultra's in a normal computer, which that was on computers that at the time only had dual core (2 8800 ultra's then, would be like how a GTX460 runs in our computer now if we had doom 3 with a GTX460 back then), consoles require a lot less of a videocard than we put in our PC's.
Were nowhere near what the cell could help produce in frame rates. there is nothing wrong with the cell, the cell infact, if you read up on it, was so powerful that they had to tone it down for the PS3 and they used the same technology that made the cell into super computers, anyways back on topic. the speed of the Vram in the RSX is still ok, but I will agree that even tho speed is nice, it does need a little bit more Vram, because all these TV's displaying a such a HIGH contrast ratio/LED with such demanding colors, the RSX is actually failing to keep up, I'm actually quite amazed that GT5 with what's in it will be able to run ok on the PS3. I think they did a great job compressing textures as best they could, and it looks extremely well for what it can do.
Edit: Yes, they were = to a single 7600GT at the time, but putting a 7600GT at the time into a console with the amount of SPE's that it has was like us having 2 8800 GT's in SLI at the time, I worded that wrong.
Steve, you ask for answers, when you get them you troll, please stop.
