Another thing is being forgotten is the slow downs witnessed in GT5. This is due to the video ram being full and the graphics data going to the slower system ram.

Sorry mate but thats BS.

Sorry that was a little rude, I apologise.

Framerate loss is due to there being too much for the engine and cpu/gpu to handle.

If you say so. So how much different is the PS3 hardware being used towards PC hardware because when the ram on a graphics card in a pc gets full the system ram gets used which causes slow downs or stuttering.

PS3 was out in exactly 4 years ago. GT6 should be in production for more then two years. So I bet GT6 will be out on PS4. No need to have GT5 and GT6 on PS3.

Why not, there always were 2 GT titles on each Playstation before and as much as I look forward to GT5 right now there's still a lot to improve and new cars (Premium ones ofcourse), tracks and other content to be added.
Besides investing in a new console isn't something a lot of customers are able to just easily do and even when the PS4 arrives after a few years it would be nice to have another full GT-title to play waiting for GT7 on the PS4.
I still count on GT6 being for the PS3, if only because GT5 already has the basic structure to build upon and add content to, not as revolutionary but an evolutionary step.

Both MS and Sony are aiming for 10-year life cycles, so if we've had 4 years already... that's 6 to go.

Nope, PS2 launch in 2000, it's now 2010 and we've had PS3 for 4 years, launched in 2007 March that is, so two more years until PS4, and the PS3 continues for the ten year life cycle, simple.

there is no memory in any phone that can do this.

The PlayStation 3 has 256mb of GDDR3 at 700mhz and 256Mb of XDR at 3.2ghz. So what exactly is XDR ram? Here are some of the highlights:

- XDR makes PS3 super effiecient
- XDR aids in faster cache mapping, both direct and indirect
- XDR ram works by a pointer to pointer technology and needs very small buswidth for execution
- XDR is not just faster than GDDR3 but it is much more efficient
- XDR RAM works by breaking down data into several packets which prevents data loss and exceptions
Yes fast cache, fast memory and 7 processors, is very cool. There's nothing wrong with speed at all.

But to get more info on screen, you need more RAM. Which is why I said "amount of memory".

Yep, both ms and sony claims 10 yrs lifecycle but this doesn't mean that in the mean time a new console can't be released!

GT5 is easly a one year game for most GT fans, it has online. Why would I wanna buy GT6 on PS3 with same graphics limitations and same 16 cars? While PS4 can do probably 3 or 4 times better over PS3. PD should take time for GT6 and for PS4.

The PS3 has 256 MB dedicated VRAM and 256 MB of shared RAM

However Sony was cleaver and it has done well for them with games like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Resistance 2, Heavy Rain, and various other titles. So no the PS3 only has 256 megs of General Purpose memory. The General Purpose Memory is Rambus XDR DRAM which has higher performance values to more than twice that of the GDDR3. If you're going to do any kind of work on the PS3 you want to do it on the GDDR3 not the XDR. Which is interesting because a certain console other than the PlayStation is using 512 GDDR3 shared between it's GPU and it's CPU which causes serious performance issues when compared to the PS3's configuration.

The only thing the PS3 needs to do has nothing todo with their system memory, but the video card memory with all these new LED LCD TV's, the bigger the image the more Vram it's going to need, or at least fast Vram, this hardware for the RSX was equal to (if you remember at the time) 2 8800 ultra's in a normal computer, which that was on computers that at the time only had dual core (2 8800 ultra's then, would be like how a GTX460 runs in our computer now if we had doom 3 with a GTX460 back then), consoles require a lot less of a videocard than we put in our PC's.

Were nowhere near what the cell could help produce in frame rates. there is nothing wrong with the cell, the cell infact, if you read up on it, was so powerful that they had to tone it down for the PS3 and they used the same technology that made the cell into super computers, anyways back on topic. the speed of the Vram in the RSX is still ok, but I will agree that even tho speed is nice, it does need a little bit more Vram, because all these TV's displaying a such a HIGH contrast ratio/LED with such demanding colors, the RSX is actually failing to keep up, I'm actually quite amazed that GT5 with what's in it will be able to run ok on the PS3. I think they did a great job compressing textures as best they could, and it looks extremely well for what it can do.

Edit: Yes, they were = to a single 7600GT at the time, but putting a 7600GT at the time into a console with the amount of SPE's that it has was like us having 2 8800 GT's in SLI at the time, I worded that wrong.

Steve, you ask for answers, when you get them you troll, please stop.

The PS3's GPU is equivalent to a single 7600gt not SLI 8800 ultra's!

CRXFREAK001: I see where you went wrong now. The CEO of Nvidia at E3 2005 said the RSX would be twice as fast as the 6800 ultra.

I'm afraid so yes, the guy is recording with his Iphone 4. Still better (no offense) than tekken's mobile phone :dopey:
I dont mind that. His last video had good video quality but the sound wasnt great. I cant wait to see the video.:)

At least its another video, do you ever say anything positive? you ask questions, you get answers, and then you attack people when they give you answers.
I didnt attack him. I asked a simple question. Also if I was attacking people like you said I would be banned by now. I havent attacked anybody once for given me an answer , Ive just politely argued the facts.

I love how all of you somehow managed to get GT5 early but none of you have a $200 digital camera to make some proper HD videos ... :dopey:

My HD toshiba camileo is at my mum's place, and so am I ATM... so sorry for that xD. The game was released in france for several hours, then stored back, after Sony's threat for legal actions against those shops ;)

Not going back to my flat in town, but still will post videos From either french forums or my room mate who's presently playing xD

Dont worry about it. The video quality is good. 👍

RDK, did you reach LVL 20? Extreme events? Is damage there much greater in internal? Like one big hit will slow down the car dramatically?
