i´ve played Wipeout in 3D yesterday on a 46" Samsung 3D TV, it was nice.. the framerate was smooth and ok (no lag)
but i was not realy impresed!
so i don´t exept to much from the 3D implementation!

Wipeout HD in 3D runs at half frame rate: 30fps. Split screen (2D) also runs at 30fps and is a lot less fun to play.
Reports about GT5 in 3D are diverse: some say 60fps, others 30fps . No problem for me because I don't intend to get a 3D TV.

Only one thing disappoints me with this GT5 build: There is still a lot of image tearing, especially at low speeds.
One of my big concerns since GT5P. It's clearly visible in the 60fps videos from http://www.gamersyde.com/ .:nervous:
I have doubt it will be fixed in the release version. GT PSP has tearing issues ,too.

From what I understand, in order to avoid tearing, V-sync has to be used. But to be implemented correctly, the frame rate has to be absolutely stable otherwise in case of very little slowdowns in effective framerate, the displayed framerate would be halved for a split second giving a feeling of jerkiness.
Correct. That's a point where GT5 most likely won't be able to match Forza.

I have honestly never noticed the tearing issues, unless people point them out to me. Even then, It has to be a still image to see clearly.

I don't see what the fuss is about. It's as ridiculous as 'pop-in' background textures that you get in other games, it's not really that important.

Also never really noticed tearing in Prologue or the GT5 videos.
There are other games where it's a lot worse.

They are.Especially Prologues.
Also 720p mode tears MUCH less in Prologue - but seems like game made specially for 1080p and texture quality not so good in 720p mode.
(anyway I prefer smoother frame-rate 720p - it enhances sense of speed very much!remember GT4? :)

Perception of tearing varies greatly between different people. I'm very sensitive to it :guilty:.
Recently I've played GT5P again (@1080p) and I was a bit shocked by the amount of tearing but YMMV.

That doesn't make it better ;)

Ok so I am back at the Sony booth where they have laptops with free internet. Andreas just left and we did like half an hour more of footage with my cable but at the playback all we got was some weird noises so I am not exactly sure why but perhaps he will figure it out when he gets back home. Me on the other hands on ön my laptop they all work, just need to boost the volume a bit. The TV volume was at max and yet you couldnt hear much due to the background noise.

So yeah, overall we have a lot of good footage and impressions so look forward to that. I will start editing the videos as soon as I get back home and hope to post them early tomorrow if possible.

The force feedback on this demo is so great. I did WRC with no assists and it is a pleasuere to fight the car and the wheel, it feels really good. Sadly most people hear do not know the difference between gas and brake and keep shouting because their car wont move, haha. It surprises me that most people here pick Nurb right away and most of the tiöe go with the R8 or maybe I shouldnt be.

Anyways I had tons of fun with Denur. thanks for the drinks buddy meeting him and Andreas, really cool guys. See you Sunday for content and next year here at GsmesCom!

Maybe invest in a headphone Y adaptor plug, that allows you to connect 2 sets of jacks at the same time for future, so you can have both a set of headphones, and audio cable to your video camera connected at the same time

Just a heads up, that will reduce the volume to both.

Uploading a sample of the sounds I recorded (karts) No videos for now, I'll do that tomorrow but at least you get what kind of sounds we got.

Karting sounds

So tomorrow I'll have the hazardous task to edit and synchronize the video & the proper sound and make sure they're as close as possible. Wish me luck, lol.

The phase of one of the Audio channels is inverted after the 10 second mark! Which makes it sound all wonky and smeared

I fixed it by inverting one of the audio channels - much better now!! Though still not 100% right, must be because the cable wasn't plugged in properly.
Also removed the DC offset before doing so, a fair bit too, about 3-4%.
Sound is pretty clipped/distorted though.

Sounds much like the kart clip on PD's site
Good thing - the sound is more in line with what I heard in the Time Trial, no longer has that GT4/GT5:P zing and synthetic pitch shifting tone

I processed this audio file as well, same problems as the one above.
Now the music is normal, but wonky after processing which makes the music smear into the background, but the engine sounds better :)

I liked the frayed edges of the skidmarks, but could probably be a bit more faded

I get what could be described as tearing, although I see it more as a frame rate issue using the cockpit view at Fuji, but that's the only track and the only view. All the other tracks and all the other views at Fuji are fine. I can live with that :)

Don't forget, this guy was doing donuts, from what I've seen from "normal" tyre marks they do seem to taper at the start and end.

Found this video of someone who can actually drive, amazing how much better the game looks when someone knows what their doing !

Andreas filmed me driving an XKR at La Sarthe to a win from an LP560-4 and a Miura despite a colossal straight-line disadvantage.

Which involved some slightly-Schumacherish defending, but I pwned from the Porsche Curves right through to Tertre Rouge.

When you finally have all your footage processed and finished, will you be posting here, updating the OP or creating a lengthy and brilliant news blog? I just want to make sure i'm in the right place to bask in the awesomeness. :)

Link ? :)

Andreas's videos are Andreas's videos. They'll be used for insidesimracing's purposes first and foremost - but I imagine the footage of Venari and I driving he shot may be uploaded to something like Youtube separately after that.

I also managed a frankly awesome lap of the 'Ring in a Volvo C30, but that wasn't on video. 8'28.

This guy is actually me. It was a lot of fun doing donuts and seeing an end result in the skidmarks.

I tried to redo that in one of the video's Alba will post (hopefully soon), but didn't quite manage it again. :banghead:

Sorry Denur, it gets very confusing on YouTube when people keep re-uploading other peoples videos as if they own them, very annoying, and hard to keep track of who is doing what..... Cool donuts anyway ;)

As compensation, and before I forget, a photo of my wife with her souvenir:

Any last orders?

I'll be heading to the Gamescom this afternoon, given my hearing will tolerate the noise. And I try to get some footage with my cam, don't know if I can upload them quickly because rendering will take a lot of time on my old iBook.

Yeah, ramming cars out of the way, really good driving...

I noticed yesterday that they had mounted the PS Eye on the 3D rig (it wasn't there on Friday). I didn't get to try it though (insane long line for the 3D rig), so if you have a chance, could you try the head tracking (if it is working)? I would like to know if you can move your head in a 3D space, so not only sideways, but also forewards and backwards, tilting and up&down. 👍

Will do - it was there on Thursday though, on Friday I believe they had a second pair of goggles hooked up to the machine.

Better put on some confty shoes then ;)

Drifting with a rear wheel drive suited to drifting. So a Zonda R would be a bad choice. Racing slicks are also a bad idea.

If replays are available following a race, could you please take a video of one or two?
Not bothered about which track or car, I'd just like to see one of those replays GT is famous for :sly:
