Gran Turismo 7: How Trial Mountain Has Changed

Nordschleife? Since GT4, laser scanning has been used until now.

No, the one in GT4 definitely isn't laser scanned. PD just took lots of photos of the track and painstakingly recreated it by hand. At the time it was one of the best recreations of the track available before laser scanning. I believe iRacing/Assetto was the first to properly laser scan it, then followed by RRRE and Forza. In fact I don't think the Nordschleife in GTS is laser scanned either. They just updated the scenery, kerbs and track graffiti to match any changes over the years, but the track surface remains the same.

PD only started actively laser scanning real tracks from GT6 onwards. Bathurst was one of the first ones we know of, and I assume all real tracks from then on get LS. But I'm not sure if they retroactively went back and did LS for all their old real world tracks.

What? It is laser scanned! There is absolutely no way they did it with photos alone. The Nordschleife was the first laser scanned track in GT, that's why it's inclusion was soo significant!

No, GT4 was definitely not LS. The one I'm not sure about is GT5 onwards. More discussion here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/laser-scanned-tracks.383973/

BTW, laser scan isn't really the end all be all for realism. The info from laser scan is too detailed to use in consumer grade sims, and at the end of the day you're still limited by the fidelity and refresh rate of the physics engine, wheel/controller USB hub and the wheel mechanism itself. You can have the most detailed track, but if the game/peripheral is bad you're not gonna feel the detail. IMO this is the main problem with GT, regardless of whether the tracks are LS or not. The FFB just doesn't communicate surface imperfections well. Drive AC Nordschleife and GT's version and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Pretty sure our old insider Amar confirmed Nurburgring in GT4 was laser scanned. Weren't they also laser scanning cars back in GT4. Laser scanning just provides a point cloud data anyway, you still need to create the 3D mesh by drawing triangles and trace over the point cloud data. Nowadays I think that process can be automated.

You can thank these two for this

OMG !! they dared to replace the trees with solar rays through (in the slope after the tunnel) , by some walls !!! ??? maybe the most beautiful vision of all tracks in GT !!! I played this tracks just for this section , and the final little jump at the end of the slope . If it's for destroy all the best of the historical tracks , it's maybe better to not add them ...

You probably haven't seen Deep Forest yet. It's gone there too...

I have given this reworked Trial Mountain a chance to grow on me over time, but I’m still not feeling the classic track as much as I’d like to. The stretched out straights have taken away the sense of intimacy I felt on the old track, and generally speaking it just feels less welcoming and more generic. Fortunately the corners still have most of their original feel intact, but the atmosphere of the environment has worsened for me.

Personally, my most FAV track, with Deep Forest following a close 2nd.. I could & do race TM at least 3 times daily.. love the layout, love that it doesn't take forever to run laps, gorgeous scenery, bonus= Hyper Car Parade @ -10mins. for 100k (5 laps) with your choice of your most realistic badass cars (Enzo.. RUF.. Spyder.. LaFerrari.. Ford GT.. etc..) that you could possibly run!.. I mean really.. now, if they could only put an updated Seattle back in the mix.. somehow or another I believe that's coming, that would be smooth..

You're right , I should be a little bit tired ... the trees at the roadside after the tunnel are here, but seems in a smaller distance (or the tunnel is longer !) , and without covering the road , and the slope is not really visible ... I just took a quick look at a previous post with the comparison GT6/GT7 , and it's so different !! Instead of best graphics , I find it less nice !
