(Gran Turismo 7) If you were to purchase the McLaren F1 '94 currently in Hagerty's with just purchased credits, the cost is quite an eye opener.

I'm wondering if the price of credits is a mistake, like an error in someone's spreadsheet that has got dollars vs cents wrong or something. I honestly can't believe that they think anyone will see $200 for ONE car out of hundreds, in a full price game, as reasonable. I don't care how rich someone is, they could still spend that $200 on something else instead that gives them more value. Even if there are a tiny number of people who will pay that, I struggle to see how the alienation of almost the entire customer base is worth it. It's so hard to comprehend that it being a mistake is the only way I can rationalise it having happened.
A mistake? No. But just think, for the same price as the McLaren F1 and Porsche 917K in GT7 using MTX you could very nearly buy a brand new Xbox Series X console from Microsoft.
Two digital models of cars I would drive a handful of times or a solid real-world current gen games console? Add one more 18 mil car from Hagerty's and I could get the Xbox Series X + Forza Horison. And I could always resell the console and the game to get some money back.

If $ony and PD don't go back on that online only bs, this will be the first GT game (not counting GT S) where you will not be able to play once server support ends. And it will end, it ain't forever!

I love going back and playing gt2, gt3 and gt4. To me it went downhill with gt5 and gt6 despite having those games and periodically trying them on RPCS3. That emulator is getting closer and closer to a fully playable game.

I really hope people who pay for these microtransactions see stuff like this.

Seems a little hypocritical for me being a TCG collector but physical can easily be traded or sold even if the game is dying or dead. You can't do that with Digital, you'd have to sell your entire online account and is instantly pointless once the game dies.

Funny coming from the Sony brand who was mocking Microsoft for trying to be all online and digital back in 2013 yet they're pulling these predatory digital tactics on their top franchise.

Lol, this is all exploding in Sony and PD's face. If they didn't learn or refuse to fix i see a lot of fans getting out.

No way would anyone defend this, maybe real die hard gt fan boys. You know, the ones that have stuck with one brand. Grinding 18 mil credits is an accomplishment, but paying for the credits especially if this is online only which means there is an end of life, its truly nuts.

I think it just makes the game more realistic as I can only afford to drive in game what I can afford in real life.
More realistic? They can't even do crash models, what the car would look like in different collisions like what happens in wheel to wheel racing!
Also, the cars seem to be from 2016/2017, how is it realistic if the "new" cars are 6+ years old? It should reflect car prices from 6 years ago.

Yeah its crazy what you think you can get for that money. Just can;t get my head around where the value is in that. I like cars in general and not in a bad position financially, but would never stretch to that amount. £200? I mean, even if they said you could buy every car in game for that, I'd have to think long and hard and even then... Happiness that 1 digital car would bring doesn't equate to £200. I mean, I could spend that on something more useful, like a couple of grams of decent coke, or a few 'private' lap dances :D

MTX are one thing, but this just seems so extreme in pricing doesn;t it and I doubt its a mistake. Yeah some rich people would pay it, but not all as like you say very few can contemplate where the value is paying that for a digital car, even if you love them. Can't imagine many will pay near that to make it worth the alienation of such a large % of the fan base.

Like someone said before, if anything, they;d probably make the same, if not more, if mtx were priced at a few pounds for each car or coin bundles. And it much less likely to leave a bad taste in core customer bases mouths. Very odd indeed, not that we're ever likely to find out, but would be interesting to know their thought process behind this. Badly., badly misjudged and for little to nominal benefit I imagine.

I think either I failed to make the sarcasm clear or you failed to pick up on it.

Never tried RPCS3 - I still have a couple of PS3s kicking around from years ago. You're right though - GT4 was peak GT, building on GT3. It has some great cars in that I used to own - Vauxhall Corsa for example. Part of GT's appeal was the real world non-sports/racing cars you could own and drive. And in GT4 you could get really interesting niche stuff like a Jensen Interceptor, Mini Marcos, seven different TVRs, Jay Leno's Tank Car, Isuzu 4200R, Saleen S7, Spyker C8 etc. etc. GT7 is really a warmed over GTS as far as the car list goes - big name licences with big prices and very little of the original GT series soul.

Where I live minimum wage is ~$16/hr, and it’s set to increase soon. At my state’s tax rate, take home income is around ~$13.20/hr.

It’d take roughly 15-16 hours of real life labor to scrounge up the MTX funds. Pretty sure that’s less time necessary than the in-game META grind.

Well, you've factored in tax, so why not factor in the fact that everyone has overheads? Tax takes that wage down to circa 13.20, but then let's assume that person has a life that actually costs money. They have rent, house bills, food bills, fuel bills, a phone contract and so on. Let's say that person actually earns 3 dollars (not unrealistic) per hour of disposable income with which to buy sprites in an interactive entertainment product.

200 dollars becomes a long, long grind irl.

Looking at it this way, is 60ish hours of real work really shorter than the time it takes to earn it in game?

Kaz already said they'll make sure they solve the low payouts issue.
The problem is that what Kaz says is not what he does. It's time for him to start doing what he says. Remember how Ian Bell threw his rep out the window? Kaz is firmly on the same path, if not further along already.

Speaking of rarity, they should limit the number of McLaren F1s available to 64 units and once they're snatched up by the first 64 whales nobody can own a McLaren F1 anymore.
And if someone crashes one in a race, it's gone forever. Someone doesn't like it and scrap it for parts: gone forever.

Correct me if i'm wrong on this...

... is it true that certain car parts are ONLY obtainable by winning them on a lucky roulette spin and that's the reason why many of them say N/A in the menu list?

Yes. Quite a few, actually. And there are also some that don't show up in the tuning shop at all, such as the engine swaps or the stage 5 weight reduction.

I'm patient, and I hope to buy this car next year via game credits without mictotransactions. This waiting is something special feeling. I don't want to be able to buy car at 500-1000k....I remember my waiting of the Chaparral 2J '70 in the GT 5's UCD, it costs 13 millions - I was very happy when bought it finally

Hence...more events will come, Kaz already said they'll make sure they solve the low payouts issue.
He actually didn't say this. He said there will be more events; but not only did the opposite of "solve the low payouts issue" happen but he pointedly made sure to note that the artificial price inflation of the cars in the game was an important element which implies the opposite beleif of what you're claiming he said.

You own the game. It's not going anywhere. If they delayed its release, what would your reaction have been?
By saying this, you mean, you'd rather the game gets delayed again, instead of being able to play it right now... I'd rather play it now.
Nothing about the game as it is now is due to needing to meet its release date. Even if they were carefully curating the single player races (And they're not. It's still chase the rabbit), that sort of game structure is not hard. They could have had one guy come up with dozens of events in the afternoon that the game was down because they broke it in the process of lowering race payouts. The hardest part would be making the relevant race graphics; assuming they couldn't just reuse them from previous GT games.

Damn, they made it out of pure unobtainium. This pricing or prize money has to change, to keep people interested.

Or simply don’t want to spend £200 to buy a virtual car in a game they already paid £70
Being also disappointed with some of the decisions in the game, let’s not exagerate and just see this game as just a cash grab. Maybe it isn’t intended to own the most valuable cars in the first 2 weeks or all cars like some demand here (what would also be pretty boring in my opinion).
In hood RPG games there’s weapons, armor sets, Runes or whatever you also have to work pretty hard for and put hours and hours in. Sure, the difference here are the Microtransactions (which are really pricey), but it looks like it get interpreted that if there weren’t no MT‘s, we would get legendary much easier and that’s a wrong interpretation in my view. These High-Rollers were also pretty expensive in past GT Titles, I just had one or two of them in GT Sport (and they weren’t buyable with MTs). So even without MTs they would be pretty expensive, the main problem as I see it is just the lack of events, especially more difficult events like endurance, GR.1 etc. which then should be also more rewarding. I put the game hold right now till more events are coming with updates (which is really sad for a fresh game that is a full price title), but I also don’t expect to be able to own every car so quick, especially not the Legendary ones, and that’s ok.

Who has demanded that we have them in 2 weeks?

How many times will we hear about that mythical person who wants everything in 2 weeks before we actually see them?

The issue is that it will take many years. There's a huge middle ground between 2 weeks and, however many years (since it varies by how much someone plays, and what they do, it's hard to give an actual year number).

Unless it's an MMORPG like RuneScape, it's rarely a long grind to get them. Especially not 20+ hours.

I had credits for this, done the grindy way pre patch.

The grind post patch - is too much... Each race payout feels pointless as the credits barely move now
No judgement mate, if you have the credits you have the credits, you don't need to justify how you got them.

But then the second question comes into play.. are you buying this car for 18.5 million? With how long it takes to grind credits, that seems like a massive decision. Imagine buying this for 18.5m credits, then a week later there's a car you want more.. but you know how long it's going to take you to try and get it.

Crazy. If I ever make 20m credits in this game, there's going to be a big part of me that wants to hoard the hell out of them.

I think the idea is for some cars to feel extremely rare. The game is obviously designed for the long term, I doubt the intension is for people to have everything in the first month. There is still obviously a load of content to come, which I'm sure will bring higher paying events.
When I run out of money in GT, I don't think damn, I need to buy some credits with my real money, I think okay, I need to carry on playing the game. I'm actually happy that I'm not making more money than I am. It would feel too easy otherwise.
Yes, $200 is a lot of money to pay for a car, but I also think PD would think you're crazy if you bought that many credits to buy a car. It's not the intention.

And that's the reason why I don't think it's a mistake, and I don't think it's Sony strong-arming Polyphony. This has been the plan for over a decade.

I'm pretty sure someone did the math on what would make them the most money. I'm also pretty sure that in that calculation goodwill for the brand was assigned no value.

Because that's not how overheads work. They're a fixed cost. If someone is choosing to work additional hours to pay for MTX, then the overheads are already paid and shouldn't be deducted.

No.

They put them in the game. If they didn't intend people to use the MTX, they wouldn't have put them in the game. They spent time and effort putting them in. Whatever you want to say about the MTX, you can't claim that Polyphony doesn't intend people to use them. That's just demonstrably not true.

Precisely. What we're asking for is MINIMAL prerequisites. All the cars/tracks should be readily available until we've completed the necessary in-game requirements to own/access them, not stuck behind a time-limit. We never had to unlock a specific track or wait until a car became available. Fact is, right now we could grind and it'd still not be enough before a legendary car is 'removed' from sale.

GT has always been about player progression; want to access the better, higher paying races? Got to do the licences first, and even then it didn't demand all gold to obtain it. Want that 10m cr car? Better get to winning races, where winning the best championships nets you 750,000cr and a prize car worth 250,000cr which you can sell. This could be done achieved in the space of a week, unlike now where it'll takes months. I still don't know how some cannot see the issue there and how GT7 has become tedious. I thought the whole point of GT was winning and racing cars, not grinding to afford one before time runs out.

I think the most jarring thing I've seen is the disparity with GT6, the F1 is 1 million in GT6, and you could earn 3 million an hour, or 3 F1's worth an hour.

In GT7 the F1 is 18 million and it takes you THIRTY hours.

Why such a big disparity?, someone tried to tell me it was to make it more realistic...........
