Gran Turismo 7 is the Series’ Highest-Grossing Title in the USA

According to recent information shared by video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, Gran Turismo 7 is now the highest-grossing title in the entire series in the US market...
The Era of Micro Transactions has been upon us. Highest Grossing title isn't a hard task when we're having to pay to for pay items that never existed in GT1 to GT5. Considering games like Black Ops 6 has a micro purchases totaling approx for skins at $800.

The days of a $70 complete game is long gone.

There are no items in GT7 that are only available through microtransactions. You don't need to pay any money at all to get anything in GT7.

OK 👌

That's just the microtransactions which I wrote about at launch.

But nothing is only available for real money. There are no items locked behind a real-money paywall. Like I said.

The credits are freely available in game. You don't need to pay money for them. I have everything obtainable in the game and haven't spent a penny on credits.
These type of transactions aren't essential to using the title. But holding a title of Highest Grossing Title wouldn't have happened without. That's all I'm stating.

No, you stated this.

We don't have to pay for anything in GT7.

Man, you must be fun to hang out with. 😂

Have a great day

I find people who get all pissy when they state falsehoods and then lie about it pretty dull to talk to myself.

Seems unlikely we'll ever hang out, which is probably a good thing considering how dull we find each other.

More on topic though, I wonder if money made on DLC'S and microtransactions are even included in the calculations. I suspect they aren't anyway so it's all kinda moot.

I say this as someone who's been with the franchise for far too long now: how?

Is it the multiplayer? Because GT7 is the worst from a pure video game perspective, and it even falls behind GT Sport in a few regards.

It has to be the multiplayer...

A big part of it is inflation. The analysis is looking purely at dollars taken, and GT7 sells for a higher price than any other title in the franchise (because of inflation).

That said it has sold incredibly well, and for all its flaws, of which there are many, it's completely unmatched in terms of visuals and driving mechanics "on Playstation". It also has its brand name going for it. Most casual gamers who want a racing game will know of Gran Turismo, and much less of Assetto Corsa. Beyond that there's very little competition.

No, I get all of that. I guess I wasn't necessarily expecting this to be perfectly honest.

Can't deny any of this.

Going off of trophy statistics, 88% of PS5 GT7 players have not completed a single Sport Mode race.

It's really not the multiplayer.

Impressive, but I can’t lie, with the way that Polyphony approaches game design nowadays and the emphasis on live service (both of which I feel pretty critical of and hold the game back from being comparable to the old titles, imo) I can’t help but feel that nothing will really change for GT8 in that regard. Which worries me as someone who still holds the old titles such as GT4 to such a high regard still (can’t say it’s rose tinted glasses since I still frequently play it to this day)

Polyphony to begin doesn’t always feel like they’re in touch with the things people feel the most critical of (e.g. having gone on about 18 years with the catch the rabbit approach for campaign races that everyone…has had feelings about and nothing’s changed). And with how much money GT7 has raked in, I don’t see why they would feel pushed to change their approach to live service for example, unless if much of GT7’s live service feel was mainly driven by PlayStation and PlayStation backs off for GT8. I guess that could change with them getting hit with a reality check from having to cancel all those live service projects, but if Polyphony feels content with the results, they probably won’t feel compelled to scale it back for the next title.

Bro these are not essential to the game, experience or even for items that would otherwise be unavailable. It's just extra money to buy cars. Which, quite frankly should cost money if you are too lazy to race and earn it. It's doesn't give you a competitive advantage. But nice of you to post a screen shot with some dismissive attitude. Male Karen over here folks

No matter the opinion on microtransactions it would still be interesting to know what percentage of total revenue they have contributed to. I think a significant amount of sales have come from that GT7 seems consistently popular with internet videos and livestreams. More people seeing the most interesting and best players have made more people on the fence about the game eventually get it. In my opinion as long as GT has such a broad appeal online compared to other games, it will continue to sell well.

Hmm

I know a bunch of people, young and old. Very few are into gaming. All know what gran turismo, and sim racing are. Many choose gt7 because of its online reputation. Now, often they will buy it.. Realize they aren’t remotely competitive, and choose to forgo sport mode, to keep their ego’s intact. But the initial purchase was motivated by the reputation of online racing not some nostalgia, nor car list. Certainly not track lists.

The sport mode stat is interesting, but it doesn’t tell the whole story from a marketing/purchasing perspective. The why, when it comes to finally spending.

The brand name/logo is known even by "casuals"; if they buy a ps5 and are looking for a game they will recognize gt and buy it -> +1 sale
Do these casuals get to level 50 collector level or even unlock the gt mode? -> probably not

Circana data tracks unit sales at retail & digital. Any income from MTX would be additional revenue.

I’d be interested to see player hours for the various Gran Turismo’s. I know from my perspective I’ve put in multiple times more hours into GT7 than any other GT.

The game structure of old GT’s is outdated and limits it’s appeal. GT7 caters to players with very different tastes, be it single-player, multiplayer, builders, livery creators, photographers etc.
