But I think it's due to laziness and lack of interest.
I wouldn't say laziness as GT modeling process is taking months to do just for 1 car so thats that

I do agree they should have those racing variants of the old cars
I'm not aware of GT Sport's update history, have PD ever added a "Gr.1/3/4/B" variant of a car in an update where the base car isn't a VGT? Because my gut feeling is it's something they do when they have no other options for manufacturer participation at v1.00 of a game rather than it being something they like and want to do.
I am pretty sure GT Sport had updates that added racing cars that aren't VGTs

Gr.4 Supra. It was a reward update for participating in the Toyota Survey.

Wasnt a full on part of a monthly update, as the claim period was six months. However, it is a Gr.4 car made from a base road car.

I think that since in a lot of cases older race cars were essentially modified road cars, rather than bespoke chassis as seen in GT3 racing, modifying e.g. an E30 M3 road car with visual modifications into its effective race car version is perhaps a more natural & involving process than having a seperate model for a race version.
The issue with that though is modified road cars aren't eligible for Group category racing.

It would be cool to have an option to homologate a modified road car that fits a specified template. Maybe have a GT Auto animation of the mechanics inspecting the car, seeing if it qualifies to meet the regulations.
Could make Gr.4 in particular explode in car choice, as well as popularity. Would in turn be a nightmare to BoP though, unless the homologation option isn't available for all road cars, but just certain ones

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough in what I meant, I meant specifically the PD-original cars that have "Gr.3" or such in their name, like the Corvette C7 Gr.3 or the Swift Sport Gr.4. They of course do add quite a lot of non-fictional race cars, I just wasn't sure how often they added new fictional ones. Thanks for the list.

It's occasional, very occasional, but we do sometimes get a fictional Gr. race car added that's based on a real car. Like the Genesis G70 Gr.3 that was added a few months back. I don't think we've had one since then.

You're thinking of the Suzuki Gr3, the Genesis Gr3 and Gr4 were base game content

As far as I am aware, there have never been ANY Named "GR.3" cars added to GT Sport post launch.

I've got five I can think of, but only one is an actual GT3 car.

There's the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1, BMW M3 GT2 '11, McLaren F1 GTR, and Toyota Supra Racing Concept, and the actual GT3 is the Lexus RC F '17. Of course the Supra's technically fictional but also a real concept so... either/or really.

I mean as in actual cars explicitly called "GR.3" in the name like how GT7 has the Suzuki VGT GR.3.

One thing I am perplexed on though is that of all the GR.4 cars, why is the Aston Martin Vantage not basically called what it really is: The Vantage GT4? One look in the cockpit and you'll easily see the plaque that even reads "Vantage GT4".

So... we're looking for... fully fictional Gr.3 race cars that aren't Vision GT cars?

Would the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car and Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept count, or not because they're Gr.3 cars but their actual names don't contain "Gr.3"?

Ah, might've misread that. I guess technically The Ford GT LM Spec II Would since its based on the Full production road car that is in-game, but the Mazda is kinda sketchy since its base car wasn't in Sport. The Supra is kinda sneaky since technically its GR.3 car came first before the actual production model (or models since there was the 2019 car and the 2020 car).

Edit: Come to think of it, the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 is another GR.3 car with no base model in GT Sport. So that makes 2 cars with no base model present in the base game.

Also, this was what my initial post was based off of:

Did the Beetle GR.3 have a base car in Sport? Always wondered why there isn't a base car in GT7.

Good point, completely forgot about the Beetle (Despite literally driving it on Friday no less ). Same goes for the Audi R8 LMS as well so that's 4 now, though both cars were also in the base game while we've been mentioning the cars added post launch.

What category is the Porsche 962c competitive in? It certainly doesn't seem to be in Gr 1 because as stock and with Racing Soft tyres it can only muster 853 pp.
I tried it on both Road Atlanta and Fuji. Didn't even bother to continue on RA and could only manage 9th on Fuji (with Racing Medium tyres)
Compared to 3rd in the R18 TDI with RS tyres (only 4 seconds off the first two)
Detuned to 790pp on Spa 1 hour I came in 2nd on a very rainy and unpredictable run. Still, it's pretty bad considering I was over 2 minutes ahead of the pack yesterday with the GT500 NSX running at 796pp with RMs, Wets and IMs.
That car sticks to the track life a fly on **** and just seems sturdy even though it weighs only 1150kg.

Is the Porsche just good for nostalgia, lap runs and one make/model custom races (not sure if you can specify Group C cars only in the menu) The only thing it seems it has going for it when in a Gr 3 race is the fuel consumption. Without tuning it further, is it simply a crap car? 🤣

Meh, most the cars aren’t usable IG in its current form. There is a blatant lack of events, admittedly.

But most all of the cars are an absolute joy to hotlap. Hell, group C cars are probably my favorite. Nothing like rowing gears in a bare-bones race car!!

In test custom races Gr.2 cars are on par with it if they are equipped with a Turbo on tracks with long straights such as La Sarthe, as far as against other Gr.1 cars it does seem abit slower than the rest of them and is the slowest Group C when stock.

Why would you not install the turbo to get it closer to 950pp for the Gr.1 races?

Although even then, the modern LMP cars and VGT nonsense will outpace the Group C cars in most of those events (I remember the 962 being quite good for the Daytona race several physics updates ago).

They are, however, very good when properly detuned to 800pp.

Still amazes me that PD took the time to design one of the most advanced time/weather systems in racing games, and yet the game uses so little of it.

Literally 99% of Sport races are the same old blue sky and dry track. A good 2/3rds of the single-player content is the same. Painfully few tracks have wet weather or 24h time cycles, and even fewer have both.

It's honestly such a shame.

Why 3 cars a month? When we had 10 every month or so in GTSport. All for the game to be 25th anniversary and all that, GT7 deserves to be better in terms of the quantity of cars being added. Tracks are more complex I get that, as we didn't get many for Sport. Kaz even said in a interview that there's no proper plan in place, it's just 3 a month and that's it, there must be a reason. The game deserves better, much better.

Because GT Sport launched with, what, 100 cars? To immense criticism at the time, don't forget. It basically felt like early access and was almost advertised as such by PD.

Adding cars costs money for both licensing and modelling, and there are diminishing returns for a game developer. Having 200 cars instead of 100 will have a noticeable effect on sales. Having 500 instead of 400? Not so much.

I'd rather have more content, too, but PD isn't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, it's just business. I'm not defending them, but that's just how things work. I'm happy that the monthly additions are free, at least, and not riddled with Forza Horizon style FOMO-BS either.

This going to be the new trees complaint? This time, we can see the clouds, but we can’t see the clouds.:sly::cool:

Seriously, though, I look at the clouds a lot, in VR. Mainly VR when I park a car during a race and watch the VR replay after. It really is amazing to watch the clouds move and transition from dark clouds to light clouds. Doing the same thing in flatscreen is cool too, but the better effect is through VR.

In my league race we were at high speed ring in the formula cars. In VR the sights are beautiful… the day started pleasant but towards the end of the race the clouds came in and it got dark. Change the atmosphere dramatically… I was praying the rain came I was in the back half of the pack but it never came lol.
