Coincidentally, I finished The Mandalorian series two days ago, and I'm still pretty shaken up...

The NOSTALGIA effect broke me... ;)
The Mandalorian is a great example of nostalgia done right. Perfect replica of the original tone, lots of little easter eggs for those who know the lore, but everything makes perfect sense even if you don't and it has a completely fresh take and story in an established universe.

If GT7 can be half as good an implementation of the Gran Turismo formula as the Mandalorian is of the Star Wars formula, it will be the best GT game ever.

But to me, Gran Turismo has always had a cumbersome menu that required far too many clicks to get around. I understand that they made a hire not too long ago who specialized in menus. Maybe he will inject a fresh perspective.
Not just a UI designer, but I believe he specifically made the menus for Ridge Racer Type 4. Or at least the Ridge Racer series.

I know im in the minority but id love more detail on the track side too.

A major gripe of mine with Sport is the lack of tyre marks on some tracks, like they've never been raced on.
The yellow lines behind the cars here is what i want to see, the little details that can make all the difference.

Just something that caught my eye.
Are the trees and rocks too big? The car looks like a miniature.

Not only these pics, I'm not really impressed by GT7 so far graphics wise. I'm playing FH5 on PC at the moment, and my expectations for a next gen game are higher than an empty and lifeless Tokyo Expressway track. Sure different game genres but they want to be graphics showcase for Sony and Microsoft. Something won't change IMO: cars look better in GT, an extra level of detail missing in Forza.

Those enormous trees look ridiculous next to a racing circuit. The setting for Trial Mountain looked good as is, there was no need to go for more over the top scenery, just improved assets. Though PD are pathologically incapable of subtlety

Not really. Trial mountain is in California, the trees are based in real life, they're called the giant sequoia. PD didn't add those trees just for the heck of it.

Probably why it took so long to remake. Doesn’t seem at all about having to remake it due to scale(?). I think that’s what Kaz was saying. Gathering more pics of trees and other offtrack objects and where to place them, seems like that was the major time factor.

I love the ridiculousness of the redwoods personally. Realism, feasibility, blah blah blah, at this point, I'm just happy they did something interesting with the scenery of a track after a lack of such in GTS. Here's to hoping the density of Deep Forest returns so the lighting engine can work its magic (if the guesses are correct).

I hope they keep the scenery/biome as similar as they can to the previous versions of Deep Forest Raceway. Even if they don't, a dense bamboo forest would be cool too.

My initial response to the Trial Mountain relocation reveal last year was that I really missed the intimately lit, tree-lined backstraight, and that it had stretched too long for its original audience of CR-Xs and RX-7s.

My current thoughts are: HOLY GIANT SEQUOIAS, BATMAN!
The scale, the majesty! I'll be taking sooo many shots of that tree!
Still haven't seen how bus-stoppy the new final chicane is, though, that may put a damper on things.

I bet at least one player will mess up that corner because he got so distracted by the trees 😂

We'll all have some large wood pics soon after launch, i take no shame in admiring its thickness and structure. 🤣

But I will miss those shadows like you say.
Gave the track a lot of character.

As for the chicane, id be over the moon if the original track layout was an optional choice.
Unfortunately i dont think thats the case.

It would be boring if they redid old tracks the same with just a bit more detail.
Would like the tree canopy aspect of old Trial Mountain though...
High Speed Ring's remake in PS2 GT had drastically different, and much longer, pit route though.

How do you feel about real life tracks?

Look at Maple Valley with Forza, it is a good looking track, all they've done is subtle tweaks and keep it graphically up to standard. Trial Mountain just needed the same, not additions making it more cartoonish and unrealistic.

Yes really. I am aware giant trees exist, and yes they did add the trees for the heck of it, just like anything else in the game. Just because something exists, doesn't mean it wouldn't look ridiculous right next to a racetrack.

Some of the old original tracks feeling utopian is part of their appeal though. Grand Valley has a bridge over water. Deep Forest has a ravine right next to the barrier. Trial Mountain used to have cliff walls as track boundaries. It still does to a degree, but bigger trees will join the party in GT7. I think it would be awful if PD made these classics entirely like typical racing circuits.

I think the appeal comes from being picturesque, good layouts and from old GT games. I don't think bridges and tunnels make or break this. They are there because they are easy and crude design elements to make sections of track distinguishable, and frankly you could make Grand valley look fantastic without a suspension bridge or tunnel.

If you are imaginative enough you can have an interesting and picturesque circuit that doesn't rely on obnoxious set pieces like St Croix. I prefer some layouts like the original high speed ring to its modern counterpart.

I don't expect FIA grade 1 circuits, I just hope that PD can move their track designs towards something that could pass as a racing circuit from any era of motorsport, rather than taking an unrealistic track, and making it even more unrealistic.

What about the opposite? Take the Eiger track from the past games. Up there at Kleine Scheidegg there are no cars. No track. Does that look ridiculous? Placing a race track up in the mountains? Nope. It looks pretty good. Imagine going there and drive gokarts on that track were it real. I’d crash, the view is too amazing.
