Imagine saying that people should be banned for criticising a game developer. Sounds a bit communist to me.
To overthrow the burgeoisie and install the dictatorship of the proletariat, it is absolutely essential that we cement our control over gaming forums by banning people who criticise game developers working for megacorporations.

- Marx, Karl. Das Kapital

Banning people for criticizing a company actually sounds like a classic example of capitalism to me.
Criticism should address the issue at hand. Reporting the problem, offering up a solution, or discussing why these problems arise.

None of the major forums I visit tolerate personal abuse aimed at individuals. Be they devs, posters, or whoever else.

Because they aren't. If they were, the lobby issues would be fixed ASAP because they actively detract from the game the longer they are allowed to fester, especially considering leagues use private lobbies to run their events, and most of them have moved back to GTS because not only are lobbies there more stable (and have larger grid sizes) but also have more options to use within lobbies. If they were intent on listening, they would have eliminated micro-transactions from the game the second that the firestorm about the in game economy reached the fever pitch that it did, much like other games wrapped up in brazen monetization strategies. They didn't, and now they are likely doubling down on it, and we're slowly slipping back to the same point the game was at during launch.

So yeah, they don't listen. They've not listened in nearly a decade, and Kaz marches to the beat of his own drum, and now that cavalier attitude towards not changing the series to match the competition has come back to bite them, and has put them in about as bad of a position as you can get, and they still show no real sign of ever wisening up and trying to fix the game on the macro level.
If lobbies could be fixed with the flick of a switch. It would have been done already. As we saw with the FFB hotfix. Reducing grid sizes is a short-term sticky plaster.

It took Evolution a full 9-12 months to get their online component up and running when they though it was ready at launch. As we see with many online games, it’s very easy to break online stability, or balancing. For all we know a full fix is ready next update. Could be the month after.

My biggest issue with PD is communication with the wider community and a more comprehensive list of known issues. Not them actually fixing things.

Many of the macro issues, as you describe them, come down to personal preferences, or general annoyances. On the bigger topics I’m happy with the direction of GT7 with dynamic time/weather, full tuning & customisation, improved physics & engine sounds.

Mad at GT7? I've always struggled to find what's appealing in GT franchise compared to other competitors way before GT7 was released.
Uh huh.

Just to remind you how utterly stupid this line of reasoning is:

Clueless ramblings that are so mad about the current game that you're trying to claim that all of the games in the franchise should have been treated with scorn because the signs were apparently there all along; featuring crackerjack reasoning like "GT3 had reverse tracks" being put up as arguments why GT needed to fix problems competitors have eclipsed GT7 over years before those competitors even existed. Your posts, not anyone else on the site who is mad about GT7, are the ones I'm responding to for being so negative that you're trying to push revisionist history with them on people with direct experience to the contrary.

Many of the macro issues, as you describe them, come down to personal preferences, or general annoyances.
AI has been ignored for years and actively detracts from single player enjoyment as a whole. People like yourself who believe Sophy is the magic bullet that will solve all problems fail to realize it is taking one line in a keynote speech slide effectively out of context (while having no idea what the hell 'as a friend' means within the context of an AI system) and completely ignoring the fact that Polyphony, if they cared or bothered to do so, would have made a good AI system by human hand years ago, as proven by countless other games who provide an actually good single player racing experience not predicated on chasing rabbits. Nor does it take away from the fact that even if Sophy is implemented, it requires changing the racing structure and loop completely to peel away from chasing the rabbit, something that Polyphony have not at all bothered to do.

If I may interrupt the current discussion for a sec...

I really miss the drag subforum from GT5 and GT6. It would honestly be very interesting to bring back, especially with the advent of special parts giving some people an extra edge and making drag races just that much more interesting. Plus I wanna race more cars that aren't just the R35, Corvette C6 or Aventador SV.

Hypothetically speaking…

If they ported this game to PC, is crossplay between console and PC even possible? Or would we be running into the same PS5/PS4 dilemma?

Most multiplayer games are PC vs console cross-play. The biggest issue is mouse vs controller players in shooters. Some games give you the option to only play with consoles. Theoretically, PD could right now split PS5 & PS4 players.

I think the Group 1 races are the first ones I've found really challenging, aside from the last of the 1 hour mission races.

I went with the Mazda VGT Gr1. You do need to drop the downforce all the way down as the lap time is all about the straight line speed on the speedway section.

Fuel map 6 and short shift about two thirds along the revv range. You'll still hit crazy top speeds with the 8 speed transmission. Pit at the end of lap 5 and you should be good. Medium tyres for both stints.

Can I ask what kind of lap times you're running currently?
Thanks for that. I'll be honest, I use a controller so I've always found the manual box a bit of a faff. I use the auto option on everything. Dropping the downforce sounds like a plan for speed on the straights, but my bigger problem is my appalling driving at that speed on the wiggly bits! I've dropped 30 seconds off the pace by the end of the first lap due to constant diversions across the grass 🤣.

I unfortunately had to lower the difficulty in order to have a decent position. It's just impossible to me to reach 1st in Daytona in hard, there's no way you can reach Miyazono with the McLaren VGT.
I set it on Normal when I bought the game and haven't ever changed it. Looks like I might finally have to. TBH, I'm not necessarily fussed about a win, the podium for the prize will do me fine:)

I completed it on easy first time around as i was really struggling, then completed it on normal.Thats what i do if i struggle with a certain race, easy first then have a go on normal.
To be honest some of the races i find too easy others not so,everyone has different driving abilities absolutely no shame going for the easy option in my book. The thing is theres no difference in prize money so not really any incentive, apart from knowing youve beaten it on hard, for me to re run races at different levels of difficulty. All good here. 👍

This is it. This the only real issue I have. I've been playing online games for many years so I know that it takes time to iron things out. Some things may take priority that doesn't align with my interests and that is fine. But there is never any light at the end of the tunnel. The known issues list is a joke.

All they have to do is acknowledge that there are some issues. That's it. But they won't so here we are, scratching our heads, wondering if this game will ever improve.

You know, it sucks that they added this whole dynamic weather system which should in theory add so much to strategy in races but they just never use it for the dailies. Of course, part of the problem is that 2/3 of the dailies are bite sized races where it's just impossible to fit any weather variation but it also speaks to just how ill-fitted they are for this game.

They should revamp them, at least find a way to have a lenghty (like 1 hour long) race every week where strategy can actually take place. Basically I'd say:
  • Race A: Doesn't affect DR/SR, changes every day (or hell, maybe even every time the race starts).
  • Race B: Basically the same as Race A, very short but counts for DR/SR. Changes daily.
  • Race C: The current race C, 20-25m race where some strategy can take place. Changes every 3 days.
  • Race D: The big race, low / no multipliers for tire degradation and fuel, hopefully raced on tracks where rain is a possibility (but not guaranteed), ~1h long, maybe even full damage enabled. Changes weekly.

Even the championship races aren't even that long. Lobbies hardly even work so it's not like they're a good replacement for a daily system they've more or less left untouched (or frankly, made worse with the removal of Race A). I hope they plan to do something.

They need to give us some control over the weather was it gt5 or 6? where you set some sort of time scale to the weather i used to like starting a race in a light shower early evening then have the track dry with a cool sunset. From what i remember pc2 had a simple system for setting weather even in a 5 lap race you could have a light shower going into a lighting storm then snow and back to sun for the end

Well-said mate.

One reason why Gr.2 events could be taking long to arrive, waiting for a GT500 DLC. I mean, we waited for the GR010 and we got the Gr.1 races. It’s silly, but would make sense to debut Gr.2 races with the up to date cars. Probably 2021 models.
For those that don’t know, the current GT500 cars have been update. 2021 are: Supra, NSX and GT-R. The NSX received the biggest change from MR to now FR.
For 2022, GT-R is replaced by the Z. PD could bring still bring out all 2022 models, as the Supra and NSX remain the same. That could also be a reason for waiting to debut these models.

I think once more of the GT1 machines arrive, and the other GT500 machines too, we'll get something akin to dailies with a choice of cars, rather than filling the field with 20+ year gap worth of cars.

And I'm not saying this because of a potential Le mans event with just GT1s....

I thought there's consensus that exclusive special parts are ultimatively detrimental to (non casual) drag racing. I mention non casual, because those players would be the ones appearing in forums, organizing events, starting discussions, etc.. Also what influence does the existence of a subforum have on your car choices?
I've been observing the drag community for a long time over the span of multiple titles (online since GT5), but I don't think it has ever been as bad as it is now just about a quarter year after release of a GT game. It is not just a regional phenonemon, I had the chance to check the state of multiplayer lobbies at various times of day with some days off, no matter if 1/4, 3k, 10k or similar it is a wasteland.
I must say I don't remember ever seeing you online, what rooms are you ususally joining?

I agree with you that the special parts are a negative for competitive drag racing, as they give some people an unfair advantage, but for casual lobbies (the ones I race in) I believe they add an interesting extra factor to the racing. I'm aware that the people posting in the forum are gonna be the competitive racers, but even so it'd be interesting to see exact information on the effect the special parts have on performance.

*race AGAINST, my bad. I think seeing the exact performance of each car on the quarter mile would lead a lot of people to consider racing underrated cars they may otherwise have ignored, instead of just the 3 or 4 cars you always see. Although I don't think the car list is big enough for this to happen yet...

I can't imagine Sport's drag lobbies were more alive than 7's with its utter lack of content so soon after launch. I mean, the longest straight in the game was at Tokyo Expressway! I certainly agree on the GT5 and 6 front, though.

Mostly Blue Moon Bay 1/4 lobbies. I'm pretty sure I saw you join a lobby once, although that may have been another Dr. Slump from Switzerland...

1/4 was more popular in GTS, at least within the same timeframe. The longer distances were pretty much killed with GTS (we did use Tokyo at first), but I just looked at all SSRX rooms currently open in GT7 and it's mind-boggling (not in a positive sense). And regarding 1/4, right now as I'm typing this there's just 18 players on BMB over 3 rooms, which is anything else than healthy.

Yeah, I just checked again and it's down to only 13 people across 3 rooms, which is... saddening, to say the least. Though I'm holding out a small sliver of hope that once the lobby features are brought back (something to do with crossplay that's stopping them) a lot more people will join lobbies. Of course, if the Top Gear track returned I'd be in lobbies 24/7... but that's a silly pipe dream.

Yeah it does suck, but its not surprising in the SLIGHTEST. They only use like 20% of their car count for the races, did you expect them to make use of all their features like weather? I didn't.

The frustrating thing is, lobbies are purposely being neglected by PD, so we can't even use those features in open lobby races either.

The direction of the game is not great. Another damning indication

Today's comments!

-I'm not a fan of how the hardest AI is straight-up impossible, with the Gr.1 Prototype Series races being especially egregious. There's a difference between things being a matter of skill, versus being entirely unable to even get a podium in a car that technically is within the regulations. More specifically, I've tried time and time again to win with the Audi R18 TDI '11, and my best finish at both Daytona and Suzuka is P7. Not to mention that I tried the WTC 800 round at Monza today, using the Corvette Gr.3 that I won from the missions, and while I did get P2, I was over 14s behind P1! It's nuts - hopefully it'll get dialed back sooner than later.

-I heard Gallo is taking a break from GT7. Says he wants it to be more eSports ready, but I'm not sure what he means by that. That said, I'd appreciate more interesting regulations, like permitting tuned/customized cars, potentially even with an engine swap and/or widebody. I do like the regulations for the races so far - such as the Le Mans race that limits you to four modern racers, or using a VGT as the basis for a one-make - so I just hope the trend continues.

-Speaking of the GTWS Nations Cup, I'm now the best in my state for GT2 as of last night's round at Sardegna, while being in the top 100 for both my nation and region! I skipped the first round with the Civic touring car because I had heard about the bugs, and then I skipped the second round at Autopolis because I just wasn't feeling it. So I decided to do that third round at Le Mans and then this most recent round that featured the Suzuki VGT, but I'll be working an evening shift when that next round with the Gr.B cars comes around. So I'll have to do that last round that's TBD if I want to have the minimum three scores out of six.

-And on that note, there's got to be something neat coming in the next update. I'm thinking either a new car or a new track layout - or perhaps even an entire venue new to GT7 - will be why we don't know the rules for the final round of this first season of the GTWS Nations Cup. We've already had two races that feature new cars - namely the Toyota GR010 and the Suzuki VGT - so I'm thinking that this final round will feature a new track layout/venue. Hopefully it'll be something much more substantial than the Spa-Francorchamps 24h layout. Maybe Apricot Hill could return!
