Yeah the Stratos has an elegant body. Yeah the guy who created it must be Italian or French, but that's my guess. I went on Amazon the other day and they're selling the GT7 ps4 Launch edition for $39.99. What benefits/features are in the launch edition? Any extra bonus content?

Kaz will be a keynote speaker at CEDEC 2022.

“In this session, we will explain how and background "Gran Turismo" was created, and the subsequent development.

While talking about the development, the company called Polyphony Digital, and the prospects for the future, we will reconsider where we were originally aiming for.”

I don’t know how Kaz thinks he can articulate anything interesting about GT development anymore. He arguably misled fans with the State of Play, and just look how shallow the GT7 vision is compared to GT5 more than 10 years ago, which had far superior online community features, B-Spec, Course Maker, etc. It remains as the visionary peak of the franchise, but e-sport appears to have made PD forget who they really were and why they sold so many games in the past. They are clearly trying with all sorts of nostalgic gimmicks in GT7, but the game reeks of PD staff having no passion for their creation beyond accuracy in models, physics and sounds.

I bet this will be another one of those instances where he will convey his deeper thoughts and say a lot of fancy words without saying anything really. Just like when he is getting interviewed. Please prove me wrong when the day comes.

Gt7 is still best simracing game on consoles so Im sure many thinks Kaz has something interesting to say.

That’s your opinion of course.

I always considered GT5 to be the series low point. With GT6 a locked-in sequel that PD/Sony where committed too before real change could be made. Basically quantity over quality that left car enthusiasts disappointed about the lack of attention to detail.

Structure & focus wise GTS was a letdown. But I only cared PD had returned to a focus of quality over quantity. With that change we had to wait for content to fill out.

As for GT7 it’s without question my favourite GT. The passion is abundant throughout the title. I’ve had more memorable & wow moments in these first 6 months than most other GT’s combined. The original GT was obviously a game changer and I remember the rain in GT3 being jaw dropping for the time.

But overall, GT7 is the title I’m enjoying most, and I like the direction PD are taking the franchise. Like everyone else I could put together a long list of needed improvements. But, with the exception of AI, most of these are QoL improvements and personal preference.

Exactly. GT7 even though it is somewhat inconsistent on some things, like track visuals (not that much as GT5 was though), it is a title that feels polished. I've given GT5 and 6 to a lesser extent, my whole adolescence, that game wasn't perfect by any means. Those standard cars where just stupidity imo and I hated I had to put up with roaming PS2 assets everywhere. GT7 is finally the consistent game we needed, but I think they should make some design changes for the next one. However, the base is all there, so it's just a matter of decision making now

GT5 definitely wasn’t executed to perfection, but by “visonary peak” I’m referring to PD’s desire at the time to explore what was possible, and most of their ideas worked quite well. Of course, the scope of GT5 could make it feel a bit bloated at times, but things worked as they should and there was more than one or two different ways to enjoy the game. GT7 is more like back to basics, but it’s so basic that I struggle to see how Kaz can say anything concrete without making it clear to the audience that PD has entered a gradual decline as an influencer of the genre.

I can see how some could say GT7 is back-to-basics to some degree. But it’s getting so many of those basics right, in a complete package, that appeals.

B-Spec, course creators, VR and so on are nice additions. But as a player I’d much sooner have those available as a fully fledged product down the line. Rather than part implementation at launch. DLC & online updates are both a blessing and a curse. Personally I like the idea of a game evolving over the years. It’s also why it was important to release GT7 at the start of the gen.

It really isn't though. A linear singleplayer mode, with less events than GT2, and some tracks having only 1 race, and many cars having nowhere to race other than WTC races, unless you count custom races which have incredibly pathetic payouts, while almost every race the game gives you is just catching the leader from far behind, an in-game economy that tries to keep you poor unless you buy MTX, broken lobbies, bad penalty system in sport mode, pathetic monthly updates for a live service game, pathetic communication for a live service game... need I go on?

What is it getting right? Most of the cars feel good to drive, even if inaccurate? They sound nice? The graphics are pretty in most places?

What direction? There is no direction. It's just more of the same as the last 7 games. There is no innovation in GT7, no new ideas, no sign of the series truly evolving and going somewhere different.

We have no idea where GT7 is going except adding more of what already exists in dribs and drabs.

This is another benefit of a roadmap, it tells people where the game is planned to go. Even if they miss dates, we'd still know what their plans were.

I disagree with this, as I think GT7 very clearly has a direction - but think it is very much the wrong one.

GT7 to me feels like they try and force you to love certain cars by making you look at them and making you learn about their history. The entire singleplayer is designed around this experience, but I don't think that collates with why GT is so beloved, and why it was responsible for bringing so many people to love cars.

I love, for example, the Nissan Cube because I picked it up on a whim in an old GT and spent countless hours tuning it and banging it around various circuits in as many events as possible. I love that car because of the experiences I made with it. I love the RX8 for a similar reason, with it being one of my first purchases when I had the credits. The 2000s Castrol NSX GT500 car was my first race car. I remember all these because I chose them and fell in love as I drove them. I care about the history of those cars because of my experiences that the game gave me.

With GT7, I am given cars and am expected to drive certain cars in a linear list. I can't bash around an RX8 for very long because oops, now I'm in the American section of the Cafe for the foreseeable future and I have nothing to do with it anymore. I am told about the history of Corvettes or Camaros and am expected to care and appreciate these things that I was never given an attachment to.

I think the Cafe is a great concept, but needs to exist in a way that compliments a traditional campaign. The rotary engine menu, for example, should be made avaliable to me after I do a few races in an RX7/RX8. Let the player build an attachment to their car, and then give them the option to work to learn more about it.

The direction GT7 has taken, in my opinion at least, is just fundamentally the opposite of what the series is loved for. This direction isn't unique to the Cafe, it is reflected throughout the entire game. I feel like PD forgot their roots after GT Sport. There are few places to race roadcars or do quick races online, again all things old GTs were loved for but forgotten after GT Sport, and now left behind for GT7.

Thing is GT7 isn't truly evolving yet. There has yet to be any evolution in the game. We get cars and tracks and events, but that's not really evolving is it? When I think evolving I think new exciting features and such. The game has ultimately stayed the same from launch other than now we have a tiny bit more content and a rotatable chase cam. It plays the same way, essentially.
