The “apology” wasn’t for us. He said the franchise won’t last. When the numbers aren’t there, it’ll end. Doesn’t matter about how the players feel or what players want or those that leave the franchise or are fresh to the series. Seriously, Kaz.
Agreed. The bottom line is the bottom line.

I don't even think about micro-transactions. Yeah, I'll pay into a game I've already paid for. Never.

Awareness of the gaming PC market and the benefits of choosing the PS5

――In recent years, gaming PCs have become increasingly popular in Japan, and users who used to play on home video game consoles are increasingly using PCs. What do you think about the gaming PC market?

Nishino We recognize that the Gaming PC market is increasing in users, and we have been paying attention to it for some time, as we believe that it is a big one not only in Japan but also globally.

In addition, while keyboards and mouse-like interfaces were the mainstream on PCs, we understand that the number of games played with game controllers is increasing in recent years. With that in mind, we're excited to offer the ability to link your Steam account to your PSN account, and we'd like to offer features unique to PS through PSN.

Appeal of PS VR2 and future software lineup

――I see. Considering the cost performance, we are also worried about the lineup of future software in order to use it for a long time. In addition to the titles that have already been announced, will there be more titles from both SIE and third parties in the future?

Nishino I can't talk about the specifics yet, but there are still many unreleased titles that I have experienced the demo version myself, not just the ones that have already been announced, so please look forward to it.

2023 is a year of competition. Impression of voices of disregard for Japan market

――The PS5 is now entering its third year. PS4 Pro was released three years after its release, but we would like to hear about your future prospects.

Nishino We believe that cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units by the end of FY2022, and this will be a very important period for our platform. We won't talk about anything specific this time, but we hope you can look forward to more next year (2023).

I do not get this feeling at all. To me, the micro-transactions are no more predatory than what we got with GT6 and the GT5 DLC.
The microtransactions themselves aren't, but there has been a fairly clear influence on the design of the rest of the economy/game in a way that wasn't there in GT5 and GT6. It's one of those things where the sum of all the parts combine to create something quite different.

One could imagine that you could have the same microtransactions in a game that was much more generous with it's prizes/rewards and people wouldn't care*. And this is why there's a disparity of opinion - Polyphony have got the economy right on the line where for some people it's okay, and for some people it's frustratingly not.
*Well, not much, there would probably still be meme's about the ridiculous prices just like there were back in the GT5/6 days.

That's by design - they don't want to irritate a majority of players (because we saw at launch what happens when they do that), but they do need to irritate some people enough to push them towards paying for credits. It just so happens that it's not possible to target gameplay that tightly to only the people that would pay, so they also irritate a bunch of people who have no intention of ever buying the MTX. Which just makes the game worse for them.

Whether you want to call this predatory is not is up to you, it's more or less standard MTX design. It's pretty money grubbing though, and while games with similar approaches still sell well there's little respect given to the developers and publishers of said games. We all know that making games is a business, but there's a point where making more money becomes more important than making a good game that feels pretty unpleasant as a consumer.

Blizzard is probably the most obvious example of a company that made that transition. Nobody wants to see Polyphony (or any beloved studio) follow in Blizzard's footsteps. 2000s Blizzard was really something special.

My 6.5 year old daughter shuffled back behind the wheel last night, supported by cushions in the chair. Turned ffb right down on the fanatec wheel and switched on all aids.

Took the Yaris GR out after giving it a paint of deep pink paint and added a decal with her name to the bonnet. Rinsed the Northern Isle speedway race several times, then Broadbean. We then moved onto the Daytona RWD US car series, and she won in the viper several times. Amusingly she was adamant it looked better in black, but wanted the wheels painted bright pink - usually its pink or purple everything. We then moved onto the Daytona pickup truck series, and after giving it a purple paint job, with pink wheels, we won that twice - ended up doing 88 miles.

We're in the UK and planning on doing the Disney Florida thing in the next year or two. I told her about Daytona, we watched some nascar videos last night and she wants to visit that now, although was disappointed she couldn't actually race on it herself :D. She defo has interest in cars though, obviously from my input. She loves racing on those slow electric cars at theme parks already and asks me to put my M3 f80 into 'sports mode' all the time :D. She even leans over to check the dash to make sure sports mode is enabled, including suspension - if she sees comfort she gets annoyed saying wants it all in sports mode now :D. Our local karting track takes on juniors at 8, and she's expressed interest in that...

On xmas eve we spotted a new porsche gt something and I was looking at it as leaving the car park. She exclaimed 'daddy we're not racing a porsche, you know porsches are fast than our car...'. I laughed and then semi seriously said 'well, some porsches are, not all', to protect my somewhat fragile ego. :D

(sorry wrong thread, meant for what did you do today...)

Pink, sometimes purple for everything isn;t it for a lot of young girls.

Thats why it was amusing when she looked at the viper and randomly/confidently said, no viper looks better in black... (but with electric pink wheels).

She asked what viper meant, so I said snake, knowing how she'd react 'errrrggghh, you mean I was driving a snake' looking half scared. :D

She'd love Shirley Muldowney. A true champion, on and off the track:
