TBH, I don't think PD ever expected anyone to go for the mult-million dollar cars as soon as possible. Just seems like a ridiculously unrealistic goal to hit right out the gate.

Just a question for you @Famine regarding this part :

Taking these prices into account results in a pretty stark picture of just how much of a grind the PS4/PS5 titles are in terms of time taken to buy just one of these vehicles:

  1. Gran Turismo 1 – 1 hour (8 races)
  2. Gran Turismo 2 – 1.5 hours (14 races)
  3. Gran Turismo 4 – 2.7 hours (32 races)
  4. Gran Turismo 6 – 5.8 hours (90 races)
  5. Gran Turismo 3 – 7.5 hours (5 races)
  6. Gran Turismo Sport – 9.9 hours (84 races)
  7. Gran Turismo 7 (v1.06) – 10.9 hours (205 races)
  8. Gran Turismo 7 (v1.07) – 17.8 hours (333 races)
  9. Gran Turismo 5 – 23.3 hours (315 races)

Is that calculating the time required to grind for 20 millions, or for the most expensive car ? Disregard, re-read the article, it's for the most expensive car in the game, only taking into account races payout, not taking into account resale value of prize vehicles. Great article btw.

Absolutely no surprise that people are still defending PD and their "economy" and drive for MTs after this move. Some will clearly defend literally anything.

You want a game to last for years do you? Well good, because that's what you've got.

We don't know the price for all cars yet, but it's currently at 277 million with 64 to go, many of which we know are going to be pricey. Let's be conservative and say the final total is 320 Million. But you're also going to want to upgrade those cars, take advantage of the excellent upgrade system. If we put that at a conservative 100K per car, that's another 42 million. So that's a total of 362 million credits to own all the cars and make good use of them, have fun with them.

We've just been told that the FASTEST method of earning credits has now been nerfed to 850,000 per hour. So if you do that, repeating the same race over and over to earn credits, it will take you....425 hours total to earn enough credits. 425 hours of the same single race. If you did that for four hours a day, every day (because you're some sort of masochist) that's three months of your life, gone, driving around the same race track so you can buy some other cars. No time to do anything else.

If you are less of a masochist and only do it an hour a day, that's over a year.

That's insane. So what if you don't want to do that, what if you decide to do a variety of races, like custom races. Well before this patch the best rate for those was around 200,000 per hour. 1,600 hours total. So, do custom races for four hours a day, every day, and you'll have enough credits in......400 days.

Most people are not going to play the same game every day, without missing one, for four hours though. So what if they manage a pretty reasonable 10 hours a week? That's still going to take over 3 years. 10 hours, every week, for three years. At which point you can FINALLY just have fun with the cars that came with the game.

Sport Mode and Online? Even slower.

"Just drive" they say. "Just go race, it's meant to last for a while". Yeah, no. This is absurd. And remember, that is me being conserative with the totals required. It may be even more. Not to mention the cost of any cars they add in updates.

The numbers boggle the mind.

Just think, if so many huge car racing nuts have no interest in doing this, so many big fans here don't, the biggest "celebrity" players don't, then who on earth will? The casual millions are going to get bored and lose interest even faster. So who is left playing the game? The PD defenders, who will do anything.

EDIT:

And let's not even get into the fact PD have made two patches for this game and both were broken. The first one broke a load of stuff in the game, the second one is seemingly so poorly tested that it's broken the entire system for over 12 hours.
I don't see many people defending Poly this time. In fact, even the die-hard fans are disguted by Poly and Sony today. I'm one of them. I still haven't bought GT7 because of a bad presentiment and I'm not sure I'm a GT fan after all these decisions.

That grind sounds like what Shiny Hunters have to do to Shiny Hunt in Pokémon.

That's a line no game with grinding should cross

There are defintely less defending it than before, no doubt, but there are still some. There shouldn't really be any trying to defend this, but they are.

"Of course there are more updates to come to GT7, with more events and — at least according to the game’s box — seasonal events that could render 7’s microtransactions just as moot as GT6’s were."

I really hope I'm wrong, but this can be a missinterpretation of the FIA championships/ Toyota GR championships...

I’d like to think with it being down for so long that they are back tracking and maybe even trying to make the game more rewarding? Hoping in the morning it’s back up.. have they ever had the game down for maintenance this long before? Some devs compensate players (credits or packs) when games go down unexpectedly or for a long time.. think these will?

Just the most expensive car in each relevant game. I've just tweaked that lead-in to make it more clear.
I wonder how you get 2million credits per hour in Sport? My biggest payout was 405k for 22 minutes.
I'm just interested to know.

First post here, but personally I honestly don't see this as THAT big of a deal. Like yeah it's frustrating that you have to grind so much to get the most expensive cars, but unless you HAVE to get those cars to finish the career mode or something, I don't think it would have much of an impact for players like me, who care much more about completing all the races.

I haven't got the game yet, but i'm excited for it, and I think it will be better than Sport, as it offers a fuller experience. I did like Sport but I found it relatively disappointing because of the fact it had a lot less content compared to past games due to the greater focus on online modes. Hell, when it came out it didn't even have a career mode! (Though it did by the time I got it)

The more concerning issues IMO seem to be the bugs and server crashes. Hopefully these are just early-stage issues that will be fixed soon.

Depends on what you want.

If you just want to play the game, beat it and never touch it afterwards then this doesn't affect anything.

If you want to race the cars available outside of completing the game, then it becomes a nightmare with this nerf

One might think that, but it's actually very shallow and a bit of a disappointment in some areas but in other areas the game is great. It's a mixed bag currently.

The main issue is how exploitative the whole thing obviously is. It's very blatant because the game asks you to buy in-game credits with real money, at every opportunity. There is always a "top up your credits" box you can easily select whenever purchasing something is involved. Decreasing the amount of credits you can earn from races, making custom races effectively not give payouts, are two examples of how it exploits and manipulates players into spending real money.

I mean as I said when it comes to the past games in the series (i've played 5, 6, and Sport) the main draw for me has been progressing through all the different races and series. Getting all the cars and all never really mattered to me. I understand that for people who DO care about that this is a big issue. I'm just saying for me personally it doesn't seem like one.

No, but they should be acquirable after 5 hours of grinding, and they ar just not at the moment

No. It takes a few minutes to change a handful of integer values to something different. Not 12 hours. They've messed something up big time.

People have paid $70 for a product, it's not unreasonable to think they can access all of that content within a reasonable time frame by just completing the game naturally.

People have finished all GT7 has to offer in 40-50 hours, they're hundreds or thousands of hours away from being able to access everything.

Boy do I have bad news for you. GT7 currently has less racing events than GT Sport did at the end of its life.

Same for me but the complaints are completely valid. Due to the paltry online payouts, even streamers who play every day wouldn't be able to afford all of the cars for at least 2 to 3 years.

I'm actually now curious what issue they found that it forced the servers to be shut down for so many hours.
I bet my left butt cheek that it's the outrage due to the new race "payouts".

I'm pretty sure PD's doing damage control.

And it has nothing to do with the earthquake.
