From the article:

ill it be possible for users to create their own cars and tracks?

KY: Eventually - somewhere down the road-map - we would like to enable players to create things and share them. Maybe we could start with modification parts like aero kits and so on, but that's down the line. This goes back to what we were talking about earlier, concerning the GT HD community. We will be able to design and create races and organise those races - these will be the official GT events. Participating team members will be able to use the Race Builder and whatever tools we make available. Many car manufacturers have their own one-make racing series, like the Clio Cup and so on. Within the big picture of the GT HD community, even the manufacturers will be able to take advantage of the system and to organise their own races if they wish.

Also, this platform will enable manufacturers to experiment, or even do a little bit of research with feedback from users. Let's say there is a group of people on the Nurburgring track, having fun, and manufacturer brand A decides: "OK, I have this new car; I'm not going to announce anything. I'll let it appear at Nurburgring, run around for a couple of laps and disappear." People will talk about it, ask each other if they saw it, and feedback to the manufacturer will be very important.

How cool would that be? Seeing a concept or prototype car before anyone else in the world via GT5/GTHD:tup:

"Pull the other one!"

When Quake I was still in early development, John Romero was quoted as describing what Quake would be like. There was talks of real ragdoll physics, such as being able to hit an ogre in the shoulder, and he'd fall back accordingly. You'd then have been able to cut off his head, take it to the alter of whatever demon you were worshipping, and earn...something. More than 10 years later, you can sort of do that in other games, but not quite like what JR was talking about.

Kaz is dreaming...or he was sitting upside-down in the seat during the interview. Much like how Sony was saying the Cell processor could run your entire house, including the refridgerator.

This isn't farfetched at all. User designed race tracks have existed for some time now in a few other games. Used designed content have come about in mods and implemented by the designers in-game. Auto manufacturers can have Polyphony design new cars and release them initially only to them, and supposedly anyone can host a race with Race Builder. Of course this is an eventuality, so we'll see how eventual it is.

I agree with harrytuttle -- I think KY was just "thinking out loud," so to speak. GTHD will probably include some new race customization tools, a paintshop, and other such things, but not a bodykit creator.

Besides, keyboards and mice don't stop the vast majority of PC-game user-created content from being imperfect at best, and completely pointless at worst. I'd hate to see what many members of the community would come up with, if everything was done with a DS3.

Me too, I don't think it would include a body-kit creator. However, it would be awesome if we had more customization features. Unfortunetly, what limits these is the hardware of the console. It would be hard designing anything good-looking by using a controller or a steering wheel.

I think it would be great if we had the possibility of the bodykits.

But they'd have to directly affect the handling of the car. I'd love to make racing versions of my favourite cars.

Model T, here I come!
Also, it might help if custom bodykits were made uber-expensive to deter needless ricing.

Mmm, he could be just speculating with regards to custom tracks and all that. Further down the line, possibly, but not any time soon, we're probably looking at the next decade before anything like that. A new city track in North America, we can only guess...

I love city courses, they have realistic views and scenery. I would've liked it more if actual people were there though, instead of cardboard cutouts.

Uch. I hate city courses :grumpy:
I don't "hate" any course, they all have their challenges, but courses, such as Seoul in GT4 and Norisring in ToCA 3, are just a little on the blah side.

I still can't believe what PD did with the image in the rearview mirror, at Seoul. Even they didn't care for what they did.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I just worked how much it would cost to by a new car or track for GTHD from Sony:

Car: 20p - 40p
Track: 80p - £1.20

good value, no?

Absolutely not! The content values suggested, so far, seem to be about ten times what they should be or ought to be. On top of that, what happens when we get GT5 and we can unlock most or all of its normal contents just by playing the game? Poof! There goes your GT:HD's investment of today.

Talk about a mess!

Cheers,

MasterGT

Inly hate them cause when I race my not-so-talented friends they all wallride like jackasses. :banghead:

PD can't help that lol. Actually they can, by implementing damage... <Dreams on> it'll only be LM cars and stuff that get mullered, road cars probably won't see damage until very late 2007, GT5 or possibly even later than that.

Sorry, if this has already been asked, I've read many pages and haven't seen it. Will the DFP be compatable with the PS3 and GTHD?

I'm pretty certain it will be, else I won't be buying it! The DFP being a Gran Turismo based product, and not that old, I expect it'll be compatible.

Wolfe, what you say is true, but if you like GPL you should try the "2004 DEMO", (made by and for fans of this game), where they picked what was best from GPL (AI and physics) and just added better graphics in cars, sounds and one track (the USA track of Watkins Glen). It is an amazing job.

Anyway, about what KY said, I really think that he was talking about his "dreams", not GT:HD or even GT5. And so, I still have to read from him what I'd like to be said. That in GT:HD Premium (or even GT5) players will experience a "revolution" concerning: AI, sound, physics.

That's what matters ... at least to me.

yeah, but once we get GTHD Premium and hence GT5, graphics are almost done update-wise, it's time to focus on that oh-so-sketchy physics engine. Ironically I seem to recall the GT2 engine being better, more basic, but more realistic!

I would think so. The PS3 has USB ports, and GTHD is practically a port of GT4.

Hope you're right Duck, it's enough I have to buy the PS3, GTHD and another HD TV to get the full benefits. Fortunatly my wife hates the 51" rear projection HD TV in the living room, so that's going in my race room, I'll get her a smaller plasma for the living room..

I'm not really looking forward to the PS3 (or GT:HD for that matter), but I will buy the PS3 and GT:HD if the following happen:

- GT HD Classic is an improvement over GT4 (not just graphics)
- G25 or DFP work with Classic and Premium

If the first won't happen, I'll stick to waiting for GT5 and maybe get a PS3 then.

That's a very subjective statement;)

If online is an improvement, and the microtransactions are not; is the game better or worse?

What I mean by this is the following. I was annoyed by these in GT4 (very annoyed actually):

- loading times between menus
- not enough selection of exotic sportscars/supercars
- very bad AI

Anyway, basically they'll have to get an online mode that's as enjoyable as PGR3 at the very least which was pretty enjoyable, or like maybe Live For Speed which is like the best. If it's not as good, then I'm not buying into it.

Buuuut, if the game is not as good and comes for free(or for about 5 euros), wouldn't you be tempted to at least buy some stuff online?:P I'm thinking this is part of Sony's plan. To make it almost too easy to buy something online so that a very large percentage of PS3 owners at least has bought something for the game.

It's listed at £49.99 at Play.com, that better change soon.

That's probably just an assumption from an online company, because all the other games sell for that price....they probably haven't heard that PD clearly stated that they were going to sell the game for only a few bucks.......and everything else would be bought online. Hopefully no worries :)
