It looks just like I thought it would, but better. Honestly not sure what kind of movie people were expecting it to be.
This seems to be an absolute problem for people to grasp. Realistically, Gran Turismo has NO story at all so whatever idea of a plot people suggest (Like the suggestion to just straight up rip off "Ford Vs Ferrari") ironically would be NO closer to a "Gran Turismo" movie. Its based on a True story about an actual driver who got his chance because he played...Gran Turismo. Its as simple as that, obviously in typical Hollywood fashion as usual so not 100% but still. Why that is so hard to grasp I will never know and this is coming from someone who didn't even understand how this movie was going to work at first.

Gran Turismo Movie Gets New Trailer as Ticket Sales Begin

Sony Pictures has published a second trailer for the Gran Turismo feature film which reveals more new scenes, dialogue, and footage from the upcoming movie based on the true story of GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough...

This movie should be like the real game: super nice cars, classic lemans cars, LMP1, Group C everything one would have wanted but no race to attend with these cars. only fictional Gr3 and Gr4 cars...

Gee, I wonder who's helmet that is...

I’m not going to say it looks bad, I’m far from a movie critic. But outside of Gran Turismo/ sim racing fans I don’t think there’s going to be any interest in it.
It’s not a movie about sim racing. It’s a movie about dream fulfilment. Sim racing is in the movie, but so is real racing. And right now, real racing has been in a bit of a boom phase.

So I think we have to reserve judgement.

One thing that will definitely affect the success of the movie is the writers and actors strikes which is compromising the marketing efforts.

I never said it was about Sim Racing, I was talking about the demographic that this movie caters to. I don’t know that there’s a lot of people that seek out ‘dream fulfilment’ movies, but again what do I know.

All I can say is if you don’t have an interest in gaming/ racing, this movie doesn’t have a lot of appeal. And it would be even worse if the movie was called anything other than Gran Turismo.

-NISMO GTR GT3 Gran Turismo Movie version
Heads-up: That would count as a variation livery just like Fraga's RC F GT3 or the updated liveries for 86 Gr.4/GR010.

On other hand, I wonder how they would handle adding the CAPA Huracan (either as a default livery for the Huracan Evo or a variation livery for the current Huracan GT3) considering the alcohol sponsor on the windshield. Perhaps it might be replaced with standard, black Gran Turismo windshield decal?

Jokes aside, it's a massive missed opportunity if they don't make this update (Jann's bedroom not included, of course lol)

I don't have any interest in Karate, but The Karate Kid was a hit because it was a 'dream fullfilment' movie. It's a pretty common theme and doesn't really matter what the subject matter is. These days video games are as mainstream as it gets, so a combo that involves cars & action, seems pretty safe.

The movie doesn't need to rewrite the genre. It doesn't necessarily even have to be a box office hit, it's the type of movie that could do well in the home video market, and show up as a Christmas/Holiday TV movie. Bad videogame movies, in fact movies of any type, disappear without a trace. But if a movies entertaining it will have a very long shelf-life.

This is one of those trailers that tell the entire story x3 But then again, I feel this movie might not be for me very much. Will def watch, just not on the movie theater.

Curses, another sweepstakes to give my information away for that aligns with my interests. Would love to attend the 24 hours of Daytona someday, but trying to win some tickets would be nice with accommodations. Already signed up for the Hyundai Gridlife experience tickets and Porsche Xbox giveaway. I'd...like to not have to keep giving out my email to these companies.

Mostly in it for the IMSA race, but I suppose the movie couldn't....hurt too.

Some longer impressions from resetera:

Some takeaways:

‘It definitely felt like David Harbour's movie and I enjoyed all of his scenes.

Even though it's based on a true story, If you played the Japanese team's career mode in Ridge Racer Type 4, you might see some similarities in the movie and how it forced Jann to go from "zero to hero".

As far as the racing, the sound mixing, camera angles and cutaways did a great job of creating a sense of speed and intensity. I liked how some of the racing scenes had implied dialogue and interactions between the racers. While not as comical or obvious, it reminded me a little bit of the old Speed Racer cartoon.

It movie also had some emotional parts that were done well. I didn't think the movie was gonna get me but it did.’

‘Movie was EXCELLENT. One of the best video game based movies ever made. This is Neil Blomkamp’s most complete film and in my opinion superior to District 9. The movie hits emotionally at the end.

The acting is on point outside of Orlando Bloom who doesn’t feature much in the movie. The lead actor was simply tremendous. This is David Habour’s best role outside of Stranger Things. If Sony markets this right they’re going to have a massive hit on their hands. My 10 year olds response to this movie was very similar to his viewing of Spider-verse.

Happy to answer any questions about the movie but if you’re not familiar with the real story I suggest going in completely blind.’
