@EDK The Lancers seem to be the biggest culprits from the impressions I got. The GTR launches off the line in a really unfair manner but I've seen drivers dominate with other cars.

I read the PD were forcing 2nd gear starts for the GTRs or was that a suggestion?

@diesel97 Wouldn't call the tire model changes minor. Even so, that's what a small update in a beta does, they still have months worth of development. It's not a certainty but the updates that tracks like Northern Isle got since the reveal, give me hope.
Bro thats why some times im in second gear at the start of the race. You can change back to first but sometimes you don't catch.

Can still launch the GT-R in first.

The other issue is short races, no time to recover positions from launch.

I qualify in the middle of 7 Lancers, but the 3 or 4 behind me get by me before Paddock Hill at Brands Indy. Lucky if I can keep it to one or two going past.

I wouldn't hold your breath all this stuff that is missing is to help frame rate and frame tearing IMO

This is why they have gone the route of 2D modeling.
True that. I don't mind it though. I focus more on the actual racing than looking at the track anyway. As long as it is slightly improved in replays as PD said, I'm fine

Oh interesting, so you can bypass that

In a beta I can forgive short races, but BOP really needs to be nailed by release.

Thats the trouble with online play, you are probably playing against 7-12 year olds etc...I have no interest in online games.

Well, I already posted about that in other thread...

I think I know what cause everyone here get punted, spun even crashed in online races :

Just kidding , this might not the exact reason, but it could be... :scared: (It is not a bad thing tbh, but it is going horribly wrong if you let your kids play and participate in online races, they just didn't know what to do lol)

Well, no one is focusing on the track while racing. But it is part of the immersion. If the surroundings aren't right, it's a lot less fun because something is missing. That's also the reason I like F1 2016 so much. It also has not the best physics, but everything happening around is authentic.

Lighting in that looks pretty good to me. Although hard to compare the two with them being at such different times of the day. Cockpit lighting defo better in FM6. However, lets compare GTS to FM7 & PC2 as they will release at around the same time ;)

Lighting in that looks pretty bad and Pcars2 already looks worse ;) But yeah let's wait.

Because you can't play with your friends?
The only option you have is to play with 10 year old strangers?
And should you chose a random online race, driver rating won't change anything?

It all sounds a bit melodramatic to me.
It's very much like the early days of Prologue, only we can't even use aligning to the same start time to try and get in a room together.

Also like Prologue because dominant Lancer is dominant.

But I will say that now that my SR is going up (I believe I got to 49 yesterday), the quality of drivers and racing is generally improving. Also got into C, which seems to make a bit of difference. Still a few bad eggs, but not nearly the same level of dirty as I was seeing when I had an SR in the 20's.

Should not have driven online with controller before I got my wheel working, and also should not have run races at Tokyo or the ovals. I like the short oval, but it's a real craps shoot online. Had to recover my SR from a 2.

Did a nice hotlap around Nurb. 6:58 on controller but my record from PCars is 6:42.
Don't know if i can beat or get close to that...

EDIT: Only ABS turned on to mild and TC to 1 because game is not balanced well enough so for some reason you are faster with some TC on then off...PD...
Also Stock setup.

Um, that's completely realistic, you do realize that these cars run TC in real life right?

I was not referring to other games (more to real life), but as you started it: Stop the Pcars video at 10 seconds: There are flowers for example. Also the grass in pcars is not in 2D (Can't speak for the Ps4 version), it is just there. In 3D. You can drive through it. Also, look how the track looks between the barriers and the fence for the spectators (esp. around Hohe Acht until Brünnchen. In GTS it is all in just one color, with some bushes, which are not looking PS4-like.

You mentioned the lightning. It is often too bright, the trees sometimes look like they are being illuminated from the ground. It is a little to extreme.

That's why I said if it stays in the current version for final release. But after all those years developing with a release in 2017, I suspect they have more important things on their list to do before release. Would be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't expect it. The Beta is the first opportunity for "the masses" to see the game and then they give us an rather unfinished Nordschleife? I don't think so.

Well yeah those are my complaints as well and in my first post I said that Ring looks rough in sunny weather but I wouldn't call it terrible and "not going to buy the game" bad. Especially considering it's the best looking 60FPS racer out there right now.

Forgot to mention that. 👍

One thing is really starting to annoy me in the beta and that's not being able to unlock cars faster. Right now I have the Hyundai Genesis for the N300s, which is way too slow to be competitive, the best car I have in Gr.4 is the Scirocco, which was good at Brands (apart from it's awful starts), but at Dragon Trail it just doesn't have the traction out of the slow corners, and for the Gr.3 I have the VW GTI VGT and the Toyota FT1, both of which are way too unstable to set a decent time at Nurb.
Well i did beat you in the genesis even though you pushed me at hairpin (brands hatch).
if it was you

Not going to buy the game in current state ;) That said, it is not a single negative point to come to that conclusion, there is no single game-braker, it's more the overall thing. I will not have fun with GTS for a long time, considering I like driving offline and that immersion is very important to me. If they bring an extended A-Spec (not what we have seen so far, that is probably done in 2 days) then I might consider it. Although, I must admit that I like the way you can race now online. Short races with people that are more or less on your level. But I'm more the endurance racing guy and will find myself in a league with the same guys as always, and they think the same of the Beta as me so far, so the league will 95% not take place in GTS.

There will be a lot of people who see that different and that is okay, because they are looking for something different.

The best looking 60 (or 80) FPS racer for me is Pcars atm, because I switched from console to PC a year ago for most games. I can almost max it out and still have 60 fps with 40 opponents at night. Pcars 2 is even better graphics wise and has a better framerate (yes, I have access to that). So you might compare their PS4 (Pro) version, when they are both out.

Yeah i know...
6:42 in PCars was with ABS only...but its only beta so i need more practice time too.

I was suprised to see 5-6-7 sec difference with and without TC...

Playing all the racing games I would say when it comes to the best Ring atmosphere my list would go Pcars, GTS, FM6, AC. I don't know how many games are going to beat PCars track atmosphere its the best out of all the console racers in my opinion. GTS Ring is actually very good in my opinion, and the graphics are crisp and clean. Just as in FM6 its just GTS lighting is better in my opinion. Both Pcars and GTS do a great job with the tents, crowd moving, and pictures taken by photographers. Where GTS really stands out is the replays, for myself I really enjoy watching the cars go around the track. Just comparing how the track looks in replay GTS wins hands down, watching your car hit the turns in replay is truly stunning.

This is not mine but this what I was talking about GTS and the way the track atmosphere looks great in replay mode. Just take your time to look at the details the crowd looks alive and I love how they actually cheer.

It does look like that in gameplay though... Rendering differences between replay and gameplay is mostly smart camera work (they know where the game looks the best with their object placement) and motion blur, like every GT game. You'll see the same shadow sampling errors in trees and car self-shadowing, there are tons of "replay" captures in this very forum showing texture filtering is still "low" (to PC standards), and AA solution seems the same too.

The gifs do benefit from lower resolution as well.

And if GTS Nurburgring looks poor, being the best looking track so far, from object quality variety, placement and treatment, the rest of the game must look like dog crap.
And if GTS looks largely like dog crap, games in general must be visual torture.

Im not able to enter even the loading screen, Im stuck here:

Has it been that way for you the whole time?

It does that to me if I put the console in rest mode with the game/app still active.

I am able to correct it by closing the app and relaunching it, using the PS button on the DS4.

No, this situation started today, no, the PS4 is not in rest mode and no, I restarted the app like 5 times but nothing.

If the system works good they might end up with a kids class after a while :D.

I've been playing PCARS today, it still infuriates me how cars get un-drivable with the default setup. A clear advantage for GT.
Until 2 hits the shelves ;).

The AA on the base PS4 needs a lot of work indeed. Hopefully it does get cleaned up.

Texture filtering won't get solved I don't think, lost count of the number of PS4 games that have low TF.

Seems like the server errors are back today.

Yesterday I was able to race every single time.
First race today on Willow was good, but the 19:20 race ended up with a connection error. Anybody else or is it just me?
Hope to race in 10 minutes...

I did my very first online race on Willow in an Evo. Started second and was able to take the lead at the first corner. The person who started first was right beside me at the first corner, but got rammed big time from behind. From that point on I was racing in clean air (heart pounding hard), increasing the lead and to my first victory.

@momo_307 I left after the first race, so did not experience the connection error.

So risk him hitting me again and possibly do the same to others without learning his lesson? Alright , I will keep that in mind.

Might want to file it alongside the "don't punt people off at the end of a 'Ring lap" reminder, too.

Yeah, I've had that issue pop up a few times too, and it's been solved the same way.

...

Had a surprising race last night. Took a new car to Willow (Mustang Gr.3) and only had five minutes to get used to it. Qualified sixteenth and finished eighth largely because of everybody going off track or making other errors. Despite running a completely clean race, my SR only went up one or two points. Still, it was a strange experience to finish so high up in a C lobby!
